Boy is it getting frustrating. Most of the farmers are not interested in making a lot of extra cash for a few hours work??I might have some one in a week or two depending on his schedule. On a good note, they want to change the one year old red cedars for 3 year old white cedars. My top soil is arriving on Sunday,so we can start filling in the holes.Brent J.. |

Brent, Couldn't help but notice the family name in your aerial photo. I guess we're cousins. Looking forward to being invited up for a hunt (once all the hard work is done of course , typical of my family anyway).Seriously though, best of luck with your project. I'd love to be able to do something like that. Your excitement comes through in each of your posts and I always look forward to your progress reports. |

The weather has been crazy. The field almost dried out than we would get heavy down pours.Time was running out and farmer #1 didn't return my calls to get the ground worked up.Farmer number two declined to do the work. The biologist gave me the name of another farmer, but he still had two much work to do.He also didn't have the equipment to do the job.Fortunitely he knew another person who had just finished planting.Thursday, I talked to him and he agreed to work the field on Friday. It's hard to believe scorching temperatures for 10 days and only 5 inches was dried out.We were fortunate the rains were to the south and we only got a few sprinkles. It rained all day today and more rain for Sunday. They wanted to start planting the trees on Monday, but I don't know? It's going to take two crews 6 days to plant.I made it more difficult for them, lol. My trees, my land and their getting almost $10,000.00 for the job.I just have to flag the different areas for the trees.Than I can work on the four food plots once the soil dries out again, lol.Brent j.. |

Thanks Scott, .I'm really excited by this time next week all the planting will be done.Than I can work on the CONDO .This is the way to work up a food plot ![]() Really,I'm renting a roto tiller for the tractor tomorrow.I have to work up the pond area and the two acres I had planted last year.I'll have the clover and alfalfa planted by the evening.Today was rough,I had to dig some holes and flag most of the property. The tendons are shot on my knee and I can hardly move.A few pops should fix me up,lol.Brent J.. |

Lol,I sure needed Ian's help.Frank's tractor wouldn't handle the rototiller so I ended up renting one.Ian helped to put the mower back on the tractor and connected the rototiller to the rental.![]() I started Wednesday night and by Thursday evening I had the pond and the 2 acres worked up. It only took the girl a day to seed the property with the red clover. Here's a picture of her refilling the hopper. I'm afraid,I'm not a very good worker, more into supervising, lol. The knee didn't help much.I worked a bit and took long breaks to rest. The seeder didn't work out and I ended up seeding by hand.I have about 4 more hours to do the hills.Hopefully,Monday or Tuesday Mike will bring back their seeder and I can spread it with my lawn mower.I could sure use a 4 wheeler, lol.I haven't touched the two acres yet. Friday,ERCA came over to video the planting process for their year end report.Friday was the best planting ever. They planted over 4,000 trees. Saturday only three scouts arrived but 4 parents.Mike forgot the sumac but I did have 200 Button Brush for around the pond. The duck, geese and turkey love the seeds. The seeds are contained in a pod that explode sending the seeds everywhere. The kids will receive their Tree Planting Badge.I 'm even getting one. .![]() You can really see much, but this section is 125' by 1,000'.It's full of hard woods and shrubs with a few cedars. ![]() I've been doing a rain dance for over three days and it finally came today. It might delay the rest of the planting, but their's only about two days left.Thank god, lol.Brent j.. |

I finally received the info. on the Woodlot Management Workshop. They wanted me to go to Guelth for Aug.22.I'm tied up with another major project , so I'm trying to change it to attend the workshop in Bracebridge on the 28.That means I'm close to Haliburton for the bear hunt and I can get their a day and half earlier, ."The informative workshop will show you how to apply for tax relief under MFTIP,set objectives for your property, prepare a forest stewdartship plan and identify local resources to assist you to achieve your management goals." You become a certified steward of the land, and working directly with foresters.Your able to fill out the tax forms to reduce the property value by 75% regardless if it lake front propertry. They pay a great fee.Your able to identify different trees and plants and determine weather the woods is healthy or dieing.you make more contacks to help the land owner achieve their objects.A 10 year plan ,with a report due in five years, than a new 10 year plan thereafter.Brent j..

We did a survey of the trees a few weeks ago.The deer destroyed a lot of the cedars. Some of the pines were missing and others were pulled out exposing the roots(Deer browse on white pine, lol). They'll die as well. They hand planted 1300 pines, and 700 hard wood. This time he listened to me.The wet area was planted with trees that will taking flooding.I added a new shrub this year. The snow berry .They also planted about 8 bags of clover.Lack of rain and timing were off last year. The area of clover and alfalfa, that I did turned out well but the deer are not use to alfafa yet. Were going to experiment with some fall planting this year.Mike decided that 60 hours to mow the 51+ acres was excessive and told a white lie, .Their taking over the mowing. It should save me a small fortune. The 2.5 acres of soya was cleaned up in April.I did noticed them later checking the plot over to make sure. They stopped comming after that but their's lots of browse in the woods.Brent j.. |

Sounds like they detroyed alot of your cedars and white pine. That's too bad, but something to be expected when they are not protected being young tress.. Other than that, it sounds like your plan is coming together.
