Let me know how you make out BigR. I decided to put mine in earlier this year. The last couple of years, I waited until the beginning of August to plant my brassicas and found there wasn't enough growing days until the first hard frost around here (NW Ontario). I decided to get an early start and tilled and planted an acre of Tillage radishes, purple top turnips, and rape last weekend. Added 125kg of 17-17-17 and after the nice rain and humid weather we had, am happy to say that the field has a nice hint of green to it. I think tillage radish requires 60-90days of frost free weather for optimal growth. I might be a bit early, but it should be about right!
I'll plant a fall rye/ladino/tillage radish mix at the beginning of August on another acre or so.
I really hope deer like that tillage radish or there's going to be a real mess in the field.

Well the guy that recommend it to me bats 100% so far.

Its more that I'm expecting when he talks about stuff . He doesn't get to excited about much but I couldn't help getting the feeling he was excited about the deer activity around the stuff. We are planting about 2 acres of the stuff along with dwarf essex. on 2 different properties. Going in the ground next week. With the brassicas and radish we will go 36/0/0 @ 100lbs an acre with maybe 50lbs of 6/24/24 top dress.

We are going to do another 2 acres of field peas with oats for climbing ( and eating lol) 2 new things we are trying.

We wanted to get more in but with all the rain this year some of the weed fields we want to get turned are still holding to much water to plow.

Might plow and let sit till next year if we have to. :hick:

We've had a great mix of sun and rain the last couple of weeks and my radish mix is doing great. Checked them tonight and the field is starting to thicken up nicely. I may lose a couple of low spots that were flooded for a few days so once they dry out, I'm going to overseed with rye.

OK, I'll try and get some this weekend. I'm going to do some mowing back there so I'll snap a few shots. They haven't browsed the brassicas yet as they seem to be feeding in the clover plots.
