Does anybody know if you can frost seed chicory? I have an old stand that I would like to rejuvenate...

I've never heard of that, not saying it couldn't be done. I guess if you toss any seed down , whatever gets into the soil will grow. To do it with chicory might be a little costly though, considering the price of chicory as compared to grass/clovers that are usually frost seeded. I had a two acre plot done last year with white landino clover and chicory, they both did well together and the deer were into it, but I cultivated it and then chain harrowed over top of seed. I didn't want to waste any of the chicory. I ended up killing the field this year because I changed my plans for it, but that chicory will usually get you 3 years they say before you have to replenish the ground. So in the end, I guess I threw away good coin on the chicory too :crazy2: :crazy2:

I did along with clover and alfalfa and it worked but and a big but.

For the cost of chicory ,,, you would want to do things better then frost seeding. It works but not as well as doing it right :hick:

We have done frost seeding of chicory to rejuvenate perennial crops. To improve the success of this method, also called frost seeding, be certain to broadcast the seed early in the day before the soil thaws and becomes "greasy".

Might be worth a try next year. If you do at the right time as described above, can still be cost effective for rejuvenation.

Maybe good thing to try next spring if you didn't give it a shot this spring. Usually the freeze unthaw cycle at its next is mid April in some years so you might have to start earlier.

I've never used chicory in the plots. Do you guys like it? Like I said in one of my other posts, I was thinking about adding it to my perennial mix.
