Well with the wet spring we are late getting thing done. Friday I took of at 2pm and got the beans planted. Here are a few pics from last week after disking up the plots. The Beans are RR so I will spray any weeds or clover that comes back in a few weeks

Man, does the soil ever look sandy with no rocks, it will be great for the beans. It's almost identical to the soil type where I am. My Ph was 6.8, whats yours?

Looks great! How long did that take you with the ATV? ANd just out of curiosity, what is that in the treeline to the left of the quad in the first picture?

the big black tube is a deer feeder i made a gravity feeder holds 100 lbs of corn

last year it took us probably a good day
this time it only took Jeremy 3 to 4 hours as the turnip field we planted last year was bare.
OFAH has this plot mule for members in the Kingston area
call OFAH and ask where and who has the Plot Mule
it works awsome.

Kemble Mountian the ph is 6.5 I live north north a Kingston where there is lime stone everywhere so unless there is heavy pine or cedar that lowers the ph the ph in all the locations I have tested are between 6 and 7.
Tim as Brian said it took a lot longer last year cutting ground that hadn't been worked in over 30 years. Last year we planted turnips that will suppress weeds well and help break up the soil hard pan. This year we did the same area in 2.5 hours. Put down the seed (Round UP Ready SoyaBeans) and went over it once more with the disks only 1 inch into the soil to put the beans under the ground. We then went over it with the 4 wheeler with just the cultipacker down for a half hour (1 guy on the bike and 2 picking rocks out os the soil) Start to finish was 4 hours work. Still to do I have to spread 200 pounds of 6-24-24 (dindn't get it in time to do when I seeded the plot) that will give me 50 pounds per acre of P and K. Once the Beans are up 4 inches I will stray the plot to kill of any and all clover and weeds competing with the beans. Should be a good plot with the ample rain we have had if we can get some heat to grow.

Well it looks great!

What a difference perspective makes, from last years pics you can't even tell it's the same plot except for the topped trees at the one end.

That's a pretty big-time deer feeder you've got set up! We tried a similar idea a couple years ago on a small property here, just to see if we could get some better pictures of the deer. We used 8" PVC, and though we got lots of pictures of coons, no deer. We found it just about impossible to keep the corn from going mouldy in the feeder, even with a lid, bottom vents, top vents, the works. Oh well.

I saw the ad for the plot master, but I can't bring myself to buy it. I currently only have 2 plots on the go, and both are on a property that my dad's friend Cecil can get on. He's a cash cropper, and it takes him less time to put a couple acres of beans in with a 60' seed drill than it does to drive in to the old farm. He's not a hunter though, so he can't understand why I'm willing to pay to "waste" seed. On the plus side he's happy to let me "kill every damn deer I see."

I'm really interested in putting a few small plots in on several other properties, so I was curious about the plot master. I might have access to a 50 horse tractor & chisel plow, at least for this year, but I'd like to get something of my own.

Thanks for posting guys!

Tim
