Here are pic's of 4 Dolgo Crab Apple trees that I planted in the spring. They are coming OK I have to put up put up a small fence around them to protect them from buck rubbing them in the fall. In 10 years each tree will drop 3 to 5 TONS of fruit. Thats a lot of little Apple Treats for the deer and turkeys.

I thin crabs are one of the trees I will try this fall. Seem to be some varieties that do very well up here.

Oops I forgot to add. How hard was it to get them to succeed. Did you have any losses?

I got 4 crab apple trees in the spring from Canadian Tire $25 each
1 Hopa Crab and 3 Dolgo Crabs. The Hopa is doing just OK. The Dolgo crabs are doing Great. I water once a week(5gallons each)
I still need to fence them before the bucks shed their velvet so they don't rub the crab trees when the are picking up the apples. Next year I will pick up 4 or 5 more. For the cost of $100 in 5 years I will get 5 tones of deer food every year That's a good investment in my books

I purchesed 10 bare root dalgo crabs this spring and potted them. 2 inch trunk dia. and 10 to 12 feet tall. I will be planting them this fall. 30 dollars each. Dalgos are a self pollinator and zone 3 hardy. Most people do not plant them in there yards any more because the apples are very plentiful and large. Sounds like a good problem to have.
