I got a few acres cut with the bush hog and it is ready to have the larger trees ripped out with the tractor. In week once the grass and weed start to bounce back form being cut with new growth I'll hit it with round up and give it a few weeks to dye down and then disc it up. Here are a few pics not the best quality taken with the iphone. This field is attached to the one field I have Beans in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pic's of another field 100 yards away. ![]()

Great stuff. I do the same in some areas. Creates great shooting lanes and allows growth of many desirable plants that deer love including succulent young shoots of woody browse which they eat all year round.

Peek aboo! I see your blind. I bet you love being out there as much as I do too. I get goddamn giggles as I drive my tractor out to those plots just thinking about what i'm gonna do next too. I actually have to brushhog a field kinda like yours through a bush from one of my plots too. Damn you for making me rush into now Haaaaa |

Are you prepping for a fall plot for this year? You may need to do one more weed kill if you till up again. When I do these new sites, I till up, apply round up twice or three times depending on regrowth, and then I don't till before seed application. If I think it needs another tillage, I do that and then wait a couple of weeks, then spray, then once weeds are dead, seed direct or broadcast and if using broadcast I then drag it to cover seed. Each tilling just brings up new weeds to contend with, expecially on those new plots:) |

vetjudy I agree with you that this feild will need lots of work. My Plan for the field that is attached to the existing field with beans in it this summer is to spray it and disk it up. I will leave the feild till early August and disk under any weeds coming up and plant Turnip or Ground Hog Radish. Either will do a good job of out competing weeds this fall and will help in pulling nutrients for deep in the soil. Next spring I will likely plant RoundUP ready beans and spray the beans once they are about a 1 high to kill all the weeds. This way I only have to spray it once a year saving some money. The deer will get lots of Turnip greens and in the winter will dig up the roots. What they don't get will rot down and help the soil for the beans next year. The other field that is 100 yards away and is about 2 acres in size I will spray and disk. That field I think I'll try Buckwheat in it. I haven't used it but I've heard it will grow on rough soil that this will be since it is 1st time disked in years. Buckwheat will out compete any weeds and does a good job at trapping P and K. Next Spring I think I'll do Buckwheat again as a summer crop and disk it under as a green manure. Next fall I plan on doing that 2 acres in clover, chicorey, and alfalfa. I'll use winter rye as a cover crop next fall over the clover mix.
