Just a quick note about the deer in my area this year.(near Orillia) The farm here is a couple hundred acres with about half in bush and the rest in hay and soy beans. The deer always feed the fields as usuall. The fence rows and the bush itself have lots of apple trees and we all know how the deer love apples. This year there is a bumper crop of good apples(seems to be,every few years the trees are loaded) Strange thing is that this year its almost impossible to find half eaten ones and tons of deer activity around the trees as i see most years.Seems like they just arent even touching them? Just find it strange.Anyone know what's up? |

been a strange year across the board where i am, the deer never come to the fields at all this year they stayed in the bush. Was real dry and it seemed the fields got dry and burnt from the heat yet the vegetation in the bush was shaded and was still lush and green. |

I planted 30 apple trees a few years ago and this spring we had a late frost that killed half of them. Then the driest summer I can remember kept them down and took out a few others. I give up on apples, I may plant crabs in place of the trees I lost as they seem to do better. It was so dry this summer I was able to go places I never did before and the vegetation in some areas like rock tops dried up and leaves turned colour and fell in August. Wierd. As for deer not taking to your apples.....who woulda thunk it? |

The same around my area in Mount Albert. Bumper crop of apples so many that the deer can't keep up with them. Have watched a doe at the same apple tree twice now eating apples off the ground when she is done it doesn't even look like she has touched them. Starting to see alot of deer on there feet the last few days. Found a place where there are 5 good size scrapes in less then 100 yards an I don't even have a stand there. Looks as if there will be on there by noon tomorrow. Matt |

renegade you got that many trees you need a wind mill to keep air movement to stop late frost from killing the blossoms |

I had the same thing happen last year with the apple trees on the farm I hunt. I had a trail cam on them figuring I would get tons of pictures but nothing for weeks until we got a few real good frosty nights then...... bucks on parade!!! The only thing I came up with is that there were a ton of bees/hornets around the apples as they slowly decayed once it got cold they were gone and in came the deer. |
