Well you need to kinda see this from the start. Breaking soil in June ![]() Planting mid July ![]() Growth after a month in Augest ![]() ![]() September ![]() Deer are starting to eat some of it. ![]() ![]() and then November 21st ![]() ![]() You can't step into one of these plots without walking on deer tracks !!!! They Hammered these plots !!!! Pulling what radishes they could out of the ground and eating what didn't come out ,,, they nibbled down into the ground ! ![]() ![]() We picked up a few bags of radish roots for a test on a bait too see how it would do. Easy pickings as the deer had already pulled most of them. ![]() |

What a plot! The deer absolutely hammered it. How many deer are you seeing there on a days sit? |

We see them in the plot on most sits. One buck we had infront of Inked 3 nights in a row in October but to far of a shot. 40 yards. ( Stud JR. ) Most we have seen out there on a sit was 6 ( Does and fawns ) We are not in a high number area as well. We have had manytimes deer in the plots on our way in and out of the bush. I don't hunt over the plots as much as the trails leading in and out. In your area , I think I would want 4 acres of radish.

Looks really good. I had the same experience with radish this year and it got ate down to dirt really early (like before the season opened). I'm going to have to look at increasing the size of my plots for next year. I've never seen deer go after anything like they do those radishes. |

Unreal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went for a walk in the bush yesterday and Holy crap , The deer are sill ( January 6th ) all over the plots with radish and brassica. Deer are routing around like pigs and finding every last piece of food they can get ! These plots were stripped of everything green a few weeks ago but the deer are still finding pieces of green and roots. There is logging going on and the deer are also taking the tops off the brush piles and digging up old mans beard near the beds but there prime location to go to is , from the beds to the plots STILL. I will be there in a couple weeks again and wounder if it will be still getting the attention it is now. |

You might want to do some research on rotating. A friend of mine swore by radishes and turnips. They grew like yours for two years and then nothing but tops after that. Very disappointed. |

Great point , That is in the plan ,, Frost seeding red clover into these plots for now in the spring and till in for green manure and then field peas rye and forage radish red and white clover next fall. Perennial plots the year after with the clovers. New brassica plots next year as well. Fertailer is King .

Excellent job with the food plots Ray. I'll give my answer to the last post's question 99% positive it is oilseed radish there is always that 1% chance I am wrong. Keep up the excellent food plotting. |

Do you plant the radishes the same as any other brassica? How big are the seeds? |

wow, talking at my local co-op asking about Diakon radish, and they look at you like you have 2 head's.They throw the O.S.C. catalog at you and ask are they in here? Any way, found some , Sask. organic Daikon radish sprouting seed's, $28.20 for 11 lbs. shipping included. Is that to much? Got to phone Orno co-op back to-morrow on 4010 peas. Just wondering what your thought's are on both.

Wow, Quality seeds phoned me to-day and will be shipping me 5 lbs. of radish seed. They are going to ship it to seed supplier just down the road from me. I thought that was pretty good of them. Anyone looking for forage radish should give them a call or send them an E-mail, cost is $ 3.15 per. lb.

Well picked up my seed to-day at Northumberland Seed in Port Hope , $ 19.45 for 5 lbs. got to like that, not having to spend $20.00 on gas to go some where to get it.The lady at the seed place said no problem getting seed next year, just call them or phone Quality Seed and have them send it.Awesome. Thank's guy's for all the info, special thank's to bigr for the seed contact and Chessy for the loan of his sprayer . (which should be done this weekend)
