I have a small parcel of land that i got permission to bow hunt this year it is about 75 acre i think,my question is this there is a field that is joined to this property that is east and grows corn and soybeans, not sure yet what they will grow this year and what will be rotated around.to the west of the property there lies a hugh block of woods that connects to the south of my property where there is a deep levy that ends the property, after that there is another block of woods.never walked this property yet,but soon i will put my cameras out.there is a hidden field on google maps that i seen on the south end, would it be to my advantage to put out bait or a very small food plot to lure these deer in or just let the crops that the farmer is growing be the attractant sense this will be my first time hunting there.the previous owner and his dad killed many trophies in the past the new owner said. Any comment would help.

Kinda a tough question(s). The food plot or bait will help attract deer but you might not want to over hunt a small bush as well. If there is larger bush near by that is not pressured , you might push the deer out of your bush. If you haven't hunted it before , Maybe the best would be to hang a stand this spring ( From sign you seen from there use last year ) and just get an idea and learn the property this fall. It will give you a better idea of what might work best ? That all being said , a brassica food plot might be intresting for the late season once the beans and corn are off. I tread lightly on new spots . I might be wrong to do so , but I hate getting busted LOL |

I agree with bigr. Plant something different than what is around you. Beans will be all eaten by the time the snow flies but it is hard to compete with a corn field if it is left standing but brassicas are a good change. Just from what I am hearing from your description try hunting away from the small bush/plot early season and keep it fresh for later on. GOOD LUCK!! |

I would be looking at the small little stand of trees in the bottom ( South ? ) of the picture and if the opening ( Light Brown is avalible for a plot then that is where I might do some brassica and radish mix. Just a guess from a picture. Would rather walk the land in the spring but ... Again first year for me is more scouting from the stand. |

Looks to me like you have a great hunting spot there! With prevailing west winds and all the ag to the east you should do well. |

I agree Deer Farmer. IMHO, with standing corn or beans to the east being a destination feed field, I visualize getting out there early in the am, and catching them on their way to bed in the big block of timber. Looks like there's some thermal coniferous cover in the timber to the west. Should be able to pinch them off somewhere near the edge of that levy on a NE wind in the morning. As far as the food plot, it may be good to follow Ray's advice and try to catch something trolling the downwind side of that food plot in the evening. |
