Spent about 4 hours on Saturday clearing out a spot that was a bit overgrown with upshot jack pines, junipers and long grass to start to make 1 of 3 planned plots this year. Got the spot all cleared and broke ground with the plot mule. Gonna need some work to break a bunch of the sod out of it but it's coming along...(i took these photos with my phone so they may not be the greatest)

the plot extends to the young maples that the cleared area extends to and it wraps in behind the junipers so I could turn the ATV

FOund a little rub when I went over to start the groundbreaking :D

There is a creek that runs to the right of the plot about 50 yards away and dumps into a thick swamp area and there is thick pines/cedars tot he left that the deer use as a bedding area. I think I might plant a plot mix that I have in this spot, that is full of some perennials and some annuals. Another spot that we will be working up I think we are just going to plant a clover mix into....I will try and keep this thread updated with phtos throughout the season

Looks great ! Did you get the soil tested ? Juniper and pine might mean cidic soil ?

Might need to get some bagged lime on there from the coop ?

No I didn't bigr...well not yet anyhow....I was planning on taking a sample into the local ag store.. There wasn't alot of juniper/pine on the immediate area, however I am thinking that your right and the soil may be a bit acidic.

Got the above pictured plot all worked up and another one just about finished, and a third all cleared and waiting to plow it. It is a little bit smaller and was a little wet a week ago when we were there. Going to let it dry up a bit and plant it later to see if it lasts longer into the season.

How early is everyone planting there plots out there? I was thinking of having the two talked about seeded by next weekend...is that to soon?

Just looking at your pics, be careful of all the pine needles, with a bunch like that you will need to add lime or stick to clovers, winter wheat, etc.
