Looking around for tractors in the 40-50 HP range for my farm. If you know of some good deals or have some advice on this search let me know. I am doing a lot of homework on this and will take my time before I pull the trigger but I will have a new work horse this summer.

tractor .. sweet! my only recommendation is don't buy a gas one. you'll see some out there for good prices but I think diesel is the only way to go.

new or used??

Oh yeah, I'm looking for diesel for sure. I am probably looking at a newer used tractor but am not ignoring the new tractors. Have been looking at the new JD's and Kubota's as suggested at a tractor forum I am checking out. I also notice some great prices on some chinese made tractors. I do not know about the quality though. The other decision for me is if I buy in Canada or the U.S. Doesn't seem like too great a difference in prices so far.

Don't buy in the states if you plan on bringing tractor back to Canada as a rule the warranty is void here in Canada.Unless price is much lower not worth the risk I know of one case were an engine failed and entire cost to replace engine born by buyer even th ow tractor was less than one year old and still under US warranty.

Good luck on your search for a tractor. Try agbuyersguide.ca, machinefinder.com and tractorhouse.com.
On my farm we run mostly John Deere equipment but also have a couple of New Hollands. I have a 25 hp Kubota diesel and it has been a good machine as well.
I would likely stay away from the Chinese machines with parts availability being the biggest concern.
Having an honest dealer who isn't too far away is also an important consideration

Hope this helps
