Nice plots Renegade, Good point bigr by mowing down that plot it makes it more palatable for your deer herd another tip is to spread urea 46% nitrogen, 0% potash 0% phosporous. This will help with your plots making them more palatable and digestible for your herd. I fertilized all my plots with urea mid september last year winter wheat, and clover fields. This will give your plots that extra boost of nitrogen going in to the cold season. Fertilizer rates 100 lbs per acre brassicas, cereal grains and 50 lbs per acre pure legumes clovers, trefoil, and alfalfa. I obtained this advice from the dvd ultimate deer food plots Ed spinazzola this dvd can be purchased from the qdma store. What are your plans for that other field next year ? |

That is interesting...I never woul dof thought of that b/c I thought that clover made it's own nitrogen, therfore applying straight nitrogem to t aclover plot woulfd be to much for the plant and might end up killing it....I might give that a try this year!

Yes, I have quite a few hay fields. I am slowly working them up into a rotation. That field for next year will likely be a mixture of alfalfa, clovers, trefoil and possibly a small section near a stand for some succulent annuals. I have a couple areas in mind for some winter wheat. Hoping to have a tractor before too long. Looking for something in the 50HP range with a bucket and even a backhoe attachment would be a bonus. I have miles and miles of trails and they are really well kept but I could use some culverts and a backhoe would give me options for drainage in some areas and really work the land. Right now I rely on chain saws, brush cutters and shovel and a 44" rugged cut swisher. I have some friends that have been doing the field work for me. I would like to be doing this myself. |
