One of a few reasons not to plant brassica to early is , if they go to seed you will get this. and if you want these issues year after year , be sure to NOT plant brassica early. This is from brassica that went to seed. I has a couple plants that did seed down but not much. Enough to put new growth up this spring. It is now a weed IMOP and I pulled any I found. Brassica is no good to you going to seed ! Plant 7-8 weeks before regular frosts or you will get lots of these in your plots ! Good for nothing but problems later.

Thanks for the tip Ray. I've been meaning to ask you your thoughts on a brassica question. In mid august of 2009 I planted 2.5 acre food plot with Rackstacker, Whitetail Institute and Bio logic brassica mixes. They all did really well, with Rackstacker probably doing the best. The deer didn't touch them till February when there was 2 ' of snow. I wish I took pictures but the turnip tops were sticking right out of the ground. All during late season the deer acted like they didn't know what it was. Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? |

We plant a ton of it and no issues usually plant it around the middle August. The deer just pound it once the snow gets on..Never had a problem of it going to seed. |

Could have been a few things Deer population low. Deer felt pressured in that area ( Maybe not from you put others ) Other food source left standing in your area they were happy at. I believe your food was ok just , deer didn't go to it until February. Deer would have eaten it soon if not for the other reasons IMOP. One more thing , Deer didn't have an expensive pallet
