I thought I would update you guys.

Here is the same 1/2 acre plot on Sept 24/13 which is 25 days old. Fall rye, oats, 4010 peas, tillage radishes and red clover. They're starting to browse it now and i placed a new trail camera with time lapse and motion detection in the south-west corner pointing north into this plot. We'll see when and who shows up.
Posted Image

Here is what I planted in both plots as stated above, this is my kill plot.
Posted Image

Here is my kill plot just under 1/4 acre and was planted Aug. 25/13 and is 30 days old. Notice the tillage radishes in the bottom of the photo.

Here are some photos from my new trail camera which I mounted on the south-west corner of my new food plot pointing north-east. This homebrew trail camera has time lapse and was set to take a shot every 30 minutes. At night the flash could only reach 50-60 ft and all night shots had to be photoshopped. Deer were in the plot almost every night and had 514 photos in 12 days until the batteries died. I guess the night shots every 30 minutes ate up the batteries plus these were older batteries i had kickin around.
I'm going to build a shooting house next year right where this camera is and pointing in the same direction.

Heres three deer in the plot.

looks like he has a couple grouse in his bag.

I caught him again with his friend on Oct. 14th after I heard a shot and my wife was with me and she took several photos of them on my property along with their vehicle and plate. I also told him that I have trail camera photos of him on Oct 2nd at my plot which he denied was him. I told him that if i find him trespassing again in our area/neighbourhood that I would forward the photos to the MNR.
I also send their photos to my neighbours.

That plot looks gorgeous, even more so with the deer in it!!

How is your property marked? You can call the OPP for trespassing, they'll probably respond a lot faster. The fine for first time trespassers is usually only $50 I've heard.

Thanks Ikantski for the kind comment.
I did call the OPP once several years ago but they took 30-45 minutes to get here and the trespassers were gone but I did give the officer the license plate number but never heard anything back.
I was thinking about calling MNR under "report a poacher" these two guys fit the criteria as per their website. They shot at something close to the road. In my WMU you can't discharge 4m from the road these two were right next to the road fence when I arrived, maybe they shot over the road, who knows. My property has No Trespassing signs all along the road and some signs close to my food plot and neighbours fence. They still trespass.

Thanks again...Friggs

Here is this years planting of my half acre plot that I started back in 2011.
I was late getting started this year because I had a hip replacement several months back and was late placing my order for seeds.
I mowed and sprayed glyphosate (round-up) on August 15th and came back August 28th and disced once and planted meadow peas, oats and rye.

Here is a photo on Sept. 6th, which is 9 days after planting. And my new pup who is 8 months old.

Posted Image

Here is what it looks like on Sept. 14th, 17 days after planting.

Posted Image

And Sept. 21st, 24 days after planting.

Posted Image

Usually, I disc several times and get the plot smooth before planting and also use 4010 peas but they were all gone mid August. Plus we had 2-3 nights of frost just before mid September. Plus the temps were cooler than normal but nice weather is here now for a while anyway.
On a positive note....
My kill plot is doing great which I planted last fall with ladino and Alice white clover and chicory in a nurse crop of oats and rye. I wanted to mow the rye down back in July but that didn't happen instead It was mowed on Aug. 15th. I sprayed Clethodim to kill grasses and volunteer rye which were popping up.
The deer are really hitting the clovers and chicory and I'm really pleased with it so far.

Over the winter the rye stubble will vanish and after another frost seeding and mow it should look great.

Whoa, that plot is looking good, glad you were able to get it all done even with massive surgery. Any good trail cam pics? The new lab is looking like a good boy too!

Thanks Guys,
Next year I'll start earlier and order 4010 peas and get it planted in early August. My trail camera was roughed up by a bear this summer and now has a white screen. It's a Sony S40 homebrew that I built 4-5 years ago and I'll fix it sometime this week and hope to have it back up again working this weekend.

My pup is a female lab and coming a long nicely and my wife is spoiling her rotten like a grandchild, oh well I'm really enjoying her anyway.

KMG,
Peas are like candy to deer at my place and really pull them into the plot. Last year they were in there every day until the 4010 peas were all gone. With only half an acre they only last about 4-5 weeks tops, so If i planted them in the spring they would probably be all gone by summer. So I guess you would need a couple of acres, depending on your deer numbers.
So, next year I'm going to try 100 lbs/ac of 4010 peas along with 50 lbs/ac of oats and red clover in early August then 3-4 weeks later broadcast 75-100 lbs/ac winter rye grain on top before a good rain. The peas and oats will winter kill and rye and clover will continue next spring, then continue the same in August again.
My deer numbers are really down and no additional tags in my area so bucks only again this year.

Here is my large plot again taken Oct. 25/14, you can't notice any rye stubble and the deer are browsing it.
Posted Image

Here is my small kill plot with Ladino and Alice white clover and chicory also taken on Oct. 25/14, notice how they mowed the clover and chicory.

And this is how it looked back in Sept.6/14 after I sprayed it with Clethodim to kill grasses.

They really like the chicory.

Next year I'll plant a strip of this clover mixture along the edge of my large plot.

Our deer numbers are down due to our neighbours who kill any and all deer that they see, fawns included. Plus no additional tags which pi** off these neighbours.
That being said, my neighbour behind me who shoot bucks only and spent many hours hunting got a real nice buck last year and was in "King of the Woods" contest. So If I don't shoot anything I won't be upset, just love being in the woods up north with friends and family.

Here is one of the bucks that one of the guys from our camp shot while following some does near this plot above during the gun season in November. This same person shot another small buck that was a year and half old six point on opening day.
