Upgrading Plot???

OK basically I own 4 acres which back onto a never ending very thick forest. Most of it is very thick hardwood forest with lots of great ponds etc. Great habitat for deer. About 100yds or so directly behind my lot is super thick evergreens which were planted in the 80's so its now super overgrown but the deer love to use it as cover. My house is only about 150 yds from the bush edge. I planted a 1/2 acre plot this year along the back of the property.

I posted earlier in the year that all spring and summer I had deer at all hours, even noon. Late summer that stopped completly and only seem to be coming at night. Now My house is in plain view of the deer. Although I dont think they care at night as I literally have tracks under my back deck? they are literally walking on my driveway and up to my walkout sliding door. Although again only at night now.

So next year I planned to expand the plot to as close to 1 acre as I can. I planned on bringing it closer to the house, but was debating trees. If I made a wall of evergreens between the plot and my house would this help at all? My idea is that it will make them more secure and will come during daylight hours. Will this make a difference at all or just a waste of money? If they are planted now in october will I basically destroy my hunting season on that plot?

Thanks

It is normal to see fewer deer on the plot in late summer and more feeding at night if you have no cover between you and them.

A hedge will help, any cover will help as well as staying away from them as much as possible. Evergreens get planted in the fall so plant them. You trying to build something for the future . Next year might be better because of it.

yes that was my exact intention. I am in construction so I have access to equipment and material fairly easily. So I was going to have one of my guys come out and make a berm on the edge of the plot and plant some nice 8' spruces. This will give the deer some privacy immediatley with the berm adding the extra height. It may spook them off for a while but I'm sure I will see them in late season.

Any ideas in terms of planting? I want a full year feed. So maybe half of the crop clovers and other half brassicas for the fall?
