I have my 1 acre plot all tilled up and I am waiting a week or so then applying some round up to kill whatever starts to grow again. I know I should have did the roundup before the tilling but I could only get the the tiller this weekend. SO, was wondering what i could plant now that would last right into November. I have some Ideas, but would like some others input. THanks. Will post a pic of the plot when get back down there. |

Depending on your plans for next year as well but half 4010 peas and oats on one half and then plant brassica in August. Pea get eaten till October and then brassica gets eaten till its gone. Don't plant brassica too early! |

It all depends on your soil and its condition. What is the history of this 1 acre plot ? Is it a newly cleared plot or a old hay or crop field. If so, what was planted their before. This could tell you about the soil condition and what to expect in growth. Is your soil sandy or is their clay. The plot looks amazing and well perpared from the photo. Did you do a soil test ? This will tell you your PH, NPK and a soil test is money well spent. If it was me I would do a soil test asap. What are your goals, short and long term ? Do you want something to attract deer during the hunting season or hold deer on your property all year around. What do you have in equipment to work this plot and your budget ? Tractor, ATV, mower, sprayer. That all being said, I would spray RU like you said and plant buckwheat in a week or two after and plow/disc it in when it starts to flower in about 40-50 days. The buckwheat will choke out any new weeds and add organic matter to the soil. Then plant rye/oats/peas/clover in late summer early fall. This mixture will provide feed all year round. And don't forget your soil test. Friggs |

If you only have limited access to a tiller etc. maybe you should be looking at a plot of mixed clovers (red, white). I like ladino as well. Not fancy but effective and can be maintained with a mower. |

Well, I'd go with romain lettuce and radicchio. Tell me they don't eat it.
