I am a big proponent of fertilizing in the fall with urea it makes your food plots more palatable for your local deer herd. It makes the food your are providing more digestible ,it gives your food plots that extra boost of nitrogen. I fertilize not only brassicas although pure legumes and cereal grains. Fertilizing rates are 100lbs pure brassicas,50lbs legumes clovers LBS/acre. All this info was taken from Ed Spinazzola a QDMA steward from Michigan who does seminars and field days in his home state.I am not sure about doing it this late in the fall? |

I think your a little late to fertilize now. If you did you won't notice any difference and if your using urea/nitrogen your just wasting it. P and K on the other hand would stay in your soil till next growing season not unless you have run-off. What Barr creek is saying is true but its to late now maybe back in late September. Most crops are dying/browning up or going dormant. That all being said, usually people add 80-100 lbs/ac of nitrogen in the form of urea 4-6 weeks after planting. Brassica's are not going to grow now and are getting frost-killed with these night tempertures that are below freezing. Frost-killed brassica is good for the deer because it improves the attractiveness by sweetening it up. Save your fertilizer for planting, happy huntin...Friggs |
