Just wondering what people pay to rent and or lease property for hunting and what arrangements they have made with the land owner. Any help is appreciated. Do you pay flat rate per season? Do you pay per deer? Do you pay for a week with acces only available for a week? Etc... Tom |

depends on what you successfully negotiate. Be careful though and get it on a contract signed by both parties. Download hunting lease agreements there are several on line just google them. We leased a primo der property for 11 years. First 6 years were labor for use. Wood cutting barn work etc. Then it all changed and it increased annually until we stopped and said no more. We paid $3500 per year for 1900 acres in central east ontario. Allowed to build camp there as well. In the end someone burned the camp on us and we left. Damm shanme. |

SW Ont just bang on doors and ask for permission. Every where I hunt other guys do too so you just need to get along with a crowd. A nice gift to the land owner at the end of the season too. |

ditto. I'm against leasing land for hunting. With a leasing system and quality deer, it won't take long until only the wealthy can hunt high-caliber deer. Knock on doors and build a solid relationship with a landowner. If you get permission where nobody else can, then that's even better. You'll have the whole place to yourself and won't need to pay a dime. |

My landowner charges me in computer repair. He might post here in his defense, but it will take him a week to figure out how to turn his keyboard on. |

LOL. That is a good deal. Leases turn me off a bit as well for the reasons Dan mentioned but it looks like it is becoming more common. Farmers will not ignore the opportunity to get more return on their investment in land. Outfitters in my area have been in the leasing game for quite a few years. There are a lot of example lease agreements on the internet. A good agreement protects both the hunter and landowner. |

I have a number of properties that I goose and turkey hunt. Some I share and some I have exclusive permission. A small thank you gift or whatever at the end of the season goes a long way! |

A friend of mine is in a camp that leases several bush lots for the amount of the taxes on the land. |

Be careful though get it in writing. A lot of farmers are (its my word kinda thing and thats a sensitive point) Tell them you have insurance as well through OFAH or other option. Sign a liability waiver when your on their property, we did as well as have the OFAH coverage for all memebers) In the end our lease agreeement fell apart because the landowner became greedy increasing the agreement fo wood cutting and fencing to cash then ramped the rate up for three years running. The landowner tried to sue us as well for 10 grand. The relationship soured. Get it all in writing because thats what saved our ass legally in the end. |
