So I just thought we'd transition into this since Marth and I already started talking about it in the previous off-topic thread.

For me, I'm pretty sure it was '98. Idk why my dad even decided that day to get it for me, but we went to Toys R Us and got an Nintendo 64 and a copy of Super Mario 64. I remember how shocked I was by the joy stick, took me a while to get used to it at first.

About 3 weekends later I quit soccer.

First platform was Nintendo 64 and the game was Super Mario 64 and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. The Year was 1996 I think? Unless I didn't import the system, because it wasn't released in Europe until 1997. I honestly can't remember...it was probably '97 cause I doubt my parents knew how to do that.

Got a Playstation the next year, and only purchased 4 games for the whole system (1997 or 1998 - 2003) until I began being a video game collector in the mid 2000's. (4 games were Resident Evil 1-3, and Metal Gear Solid)

Became a Video Game collector in like 2003 or 2004, that's when I purchased all the old school systems. I'll go into more detail about that at a later time because I'd have to look up all my records of systems purchased. But the most I ever spent on a system was either the Hong Kong Super Nintendo which ran approximately 800 USD, 3DO CD based console which ran about 850, or the Atari Jaguar and CD Add On which totaled to almost a thousand dollars. I'm pretty sure I own one of the last Jaguar CD's that actually work. But yes, I'll post more on the history of systems I purchased (Including why I own over 50 Sega Dreamcasts) later.

The first platform I owned was a Playstation 1 (I still have it too, but it doesn't work). I recieved the following games with it: Legend of Legaia, Final Fantasy 8, Megaman Legends 1 (By far, one of the best Megamans ever, Capcom should seriously continue the Legends series, it was by far the best), Tekken 3, Ninja, and some game where this kid had a fear of the dark/unknown and ended up in a world of dark and unknown, I can't remember the name of that game! I don't have it anymore, and I've been looking for it for years (5 to be exact).

First platform I played on was the Nintendo Entertainment System (Duck Hunter FTW!). 2nd was the Super Nintendo with Final Fantasy 2 (*Cough* it's actually 4 *cough*).

I've been playing RPGs since the age of 3. TBH they played a role in teaching me how to read, due to captions and all.

EDIT: Almost as soon as I typed this post, I found out the name of that game mentioned near the end of the first part. It's called Heart of Darkness.

Ps1 was the first CD based console that actually wasn't a shitbomb. (Sega CD, and 3DO were the other 2, they both blow) Although compared to the Nintendo 64, the hardware inside the machine itself isn't so advanced, usually causing hardware failure or overheating disasters. Luckily the PS:ONE released in 2001 pretty much solved the problems...but Playstation 2 was coming out in another month. So Sony lost money on it.

Yeah, my dad had to build a stand at a 45 degree angle just so the PS1 would run. He also repaired my uncle's and my cousin's PS1s.

One thing I hated about the PS1 were all the loading times which I can't remember a single N64 game ever having.

2 games I feel attributed to my reading were Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Pokemon Snap. With Rayman, my dad got tired of reading the cut-scenes for me and I still was really into what was going on. With Pokemon Snap I just learned to recent what scores I got at the end of each level.

This is what fueled the whole "Cartridge vs Compact-Disc" debate.

Nintendo's option to stay with cartridges enabled them to prevent piracy easier, and it also eliminated loading times because of the advanced capibilities of the Hardware/Cart formatting. However...CD's were able to hold more data on it's memory...Thus games were more advanced for PS1 in ways of graphics and length.

Most people agree Nintendo lost the 64-Bit era to Sony because of their decision to stay with Cartridges. Sega Saturn also was a competitor in the 64-bit Era, which most people forget because it was poorly marketed in America by Sega...and the Dreamcast replaced it in like 3 years.
