The Article Just spreading the word incase any of you (like myself) were sort of anticipating True Crime: Hong Kong. As far as my opinion on the end of Guitar Hero; it was severely milked. I like the rhythm genre (I own Rock Band 2 and 3 as well as Frequency, they, with the exception of Frequency, make great party games), but Guitar Hero dipped off in quality near the end. Sadly, it needed to end. Apparently, Activision's financial report was sub-par. United Front, True Crime's developer, is undergoing layoffs. The recent Guitar Hero performed terribly in sales (It did, however, beat Rock Band 3 in sales, which isn't saying much. To this date, Guitar Hero: WoR has sold around 1,300,000 copies across all platforms, while Rock Band 3 has sold around 1,190,000 across all platforms). I wonder what would happen to the Call of Duty franchise if it (Somehow) flopped in sales. I mean, Activision managed to kill both Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (although the introduction of Skate had a little bit to do with that) by milking them. It will happen to Call of Duty sometime. It's in Activision's track record. Edited by freakofnature300, Feb 9 2011, 10:26 PM.

Coming out with sequels to the Rhythm games is kinda pointless just release DLC with new songs. Guitar Hero being done isn't a big deal. I never played any True Crime games but i know whats it like to have an anticipated game canceled, Like Tiberium for example -.- CoD won't end ever. If it does it'll be re released under a different franchise name. because you can't kill the real world FPS. |

The only time I see a point in releasing a sequel to a rhythm game with the same format as Guitar Hero and Rock Band is if you do what Harmonix did with Rock Band 3. They added a new peripheral (keyboard, if you have a MIDI compatible keyboard, you can just buy a MIDI adapter) and Pro guitar (pretty much, a plastic guitar with strings on the body, but 100+ buttons on the neck, buttons tell what fret you're holding down, or, you can buy this Squier, an actual guitar, that is MIDI-compatible. I don't own either, but the gameplay looks like you're following visual tabs. You don't tune the guitar, however). DLC is, pretty much, the reason why Rock Band won't die just yet. They release different content each week. I think there's 2,000+ songs available. Guitar Hero barely has/had DLC. I think CoD is headed down a dangerous path. You may not be able to kill the real-world FPS, but you can kill a real-world FPS series. Like Garber said, though, the same idea would be carried into another series. |
