There are a few rules that need to be followed in order to have a good time here.

1. This forum is for fanfics, independent fiction or any other structured writings. Group fanfics are more RP than anything and should be put in the RPG Corner.

2. Fanfics with mature content are allowed, but only if they have clear markings. If a chapter or section has mature content (Ie: sex, extreme violence) it should be marked accordingly. Please make all warnings large enough for the reader to see at a glance. This means it should either be bolded or underlined and in plain view.

Bad example:

(Mature content) Blah blah blah.

Good example:

MATURE CONTENT

Blah blah blah.

3. Please try not to post very small portions at a time. If your fanfic or fiction story is not several paragraphs yet, do not post it until it is. If you post several small paragraphs over and over, this will be considered cramming and is a warnable offense.

4. If your story is very long and is scattered between threads (ie: One thread per chapter), feel free to make a table of contents (See my Kenshin Himura ToC to see what I mean) and PM myself or another mod of this section to sticky your thread. In your table of contents thread should be a small overall explaination of what your fic is, including a link to each chapter. As you write more, you should edit in the new links, not post in your ToC again. You may post in your ToC again if others make comments or ask questions in it though.

5. The stickied thread Recommended Reading is a special thread for good fiction. If you wish to have your name added to the list, PM me about it and myself and several others will read your fiction and together, decide on whether we will add your fiction to the list. Basically, as long as it is well thought out, has a decent story and plausible characters, it will be added. We aren't going to be extremely picky, however, if you attempt a screenplay format, you should be very familiar with it, as it is one of the most difficult styles and not many who try it can pull it off. We will be deciding who makes the list based on a few things. Type of story and how well it's done (ie: Science fiction, fantasy, ect.), Plot, Characters, both dynamic and static, grammar (yes, it counts), character interaction and description. Those are some of the basic things we will be judging, so try to remember these when you are writing. Also, try to remember, if you are writing about a game or anime, it is quite possible that some of your readers haven't seen the anime or played the game. Please try to discribe the surroundings and flesh out your characters just like you would if you were writing original fiction so that the reader has a good idea of what's going on, what the characters look like, their usual attire, anything like that. Do not just assume the reader already knows. Show, not tell. It's very important.

6. Critiques. If you receive a critique that is unfavorable, don't get upset. People critique to help you with your writing, and if you don't like what the person says, you don't have to change your writing style. Don't start yelling at whoever critiqued you, they are only trying to help you become a better writer. Consider what the person said, decide if it has merit, and go from there. Don't just fly off the handle.

One last thing. Writings in this section will not be archived, so don't worry, old pieces stay here.

That said, I hope to read some good fiction in the near future.
Marci: What is the world coming to? You've become me, Xantar's become Slappy...

Dragon: I bet Xantar is like the ultimate designated driver
Dragon: drops off all his drunk buddies at each other's ex-girlfriends' houses

Mystic Gohan: xantar has had his lasting effects on our easily influenced minds
Mystic Gohan: hes probably at home cackling as we speak

Me: Xantar never really talks unless you talk to him first.
Marci: And that will hold until he makes the first move. I've learned. Don't ever go into a Xantar conversation blind.
It's like going swimming naked. You make sure there aren't any sharks nearby and that you don't have any open wounds first.
