Newly released on the PS3, ported over to US by Atlus, Demom's Souls is being regarded as a ridiculously hard game with revolutionary multilayer elements. For all intensive purposes the game is a one player game, but the optional multiplayer aspects are what make this game amazing.

First off I should explain how unforgiving this game is. When you die, you lose you're body and are ressurected as a soul, except your max HP as a soul is 50% of your Max HP as a body. On top of that, you lose all of your "souls" that you have collected, which are used both as currency as well as points used to level up your character. The only chance you have to regain these lost souls is to return to the spot where you died and touch the bloodstain your body left behind.

For all intensive purposes, the only way to regain your body is to defeat a boss (Which is incredibly difficult considering your lowered health) or indulge yourself in the online multiplayer aspects. The first option is to travel to another player's game (if they still have a body) as a Blue Phantom and help them defeat a boss, at which point you will regain your own body and return to your own world. The other option is to turn into a Black Phantom, and invade someone else game at which point you hunt them down and attempt to kill them, thus stealing their body and returning to your world.

With this in mind, whenever you have a body, at any given moment someone may invade your game and kill you. And since the game is so unforgiving about death, you be be ready to defend yourself at any given moment or you'll quickly find yourself as a spirit.

The game also boasts a New Game+ feature in which you can replay the game over again, keeping all your stats and items except for a feature not commonly found in most games...when you start a NG+, the enemies get stronger and scale based of your level at game completion. In other words the game gets exponentially more difficult each time you play through it which adds quite a bit of enemy levels considering max level for your character is 712 (99 in stats +Base stats). The nice part about the game is that characters are completely customizable in that you can level a handful of stats however you like. For Example you can make a character with high strength and Endurance so you can wear Heavy armor and wield the massive Meat Cleaver, or you can level Magic and Faith to boost your magical attack and defense for a more lightweight character. Eventually all characters become the same as all stats approach level 99, but for the majority of the game you can create a distinctive build.

All of this plus incredible cutscenes and dramatic boss battles, Demon's Souls definitely is on my top 10 list of favorite games. So...discuss?

Ok, you caught me. I'm actually Xantar. I hacked Dragon's account because he's being an ass.

Dragon: You don't have the respect for me because you are entered the forum into a contest where it is impossible for one to survive unless they are the one survivor. You speak as if setting up a situation in which to make my fail by stating that I cannot live. Therefor my logic proves that over yours and you are making a direct threat on my physical life.
Xantar: I think you mean
Xantar: "You made me accidentally the whole fleshlight!"
Dragon: .....
Dragon: Sometimes I just love you.

So I found out that this girl on a kids show I thought was cute was actually about 16 at the time of filming, so I feel better about it now.

I happen to be a big fan of Atlus company games, but this game doesn't have a typical Atlus look. Nevertheless it sounds simply epic. The concept of corpse recovery is nothing new; however, done with this level of tactical involvement is previously unexplored territory. I remember countless hours of playing Everquest where I had to run naked to a body surrounded by gnolls, bears, giants, and other foul creatures. Often times corpses were simply unrecoverable without the aid of a bard or necromancer. The task became so arduous and costly (time/money) to the player that eventually the developer patched the game and did away with corpse recovery altogether.

Mal, the reason this doesn't have an Atlus look is because, as most people tend to forget, Atlus is a publisher. Not a developer. They didn't make this game, they just localize and sell it in the North. Much like Persona, Nocturne and the Disgaea games aren't Atlus made, just Atlus published.

That aside, i've been looking forward to this since I heard about it. I've yet to pick it up, and seeing how my living situation is now I probably won't for a while, but it very much reminds me of a medieval Monster Hunter. And that makes me all kinds of screaming fangirl.

Hard game looks hard.

If I had a PS3 I would be torn between buying this and having a bunch of rapid squirrells knawing on mah balls.

The latter option would of course be less painful than this game looks.

I eat babies. Also, read my fanfics.

So...do you have any interest in necrophilia?

Don't worry about it being too long - we like long here.

Eh dont let those guys sway you, they're idiots and whiners who dont know how to play. Its just a game where skill comes from actually being GOOD at combat and not to leveling up so you're stronger. In fact being a low level is better later on because if you're improperly equipped at a high level, someone will come and they will kill you. Unfortunately I think we've become an era of pussy gamers who whine unless they can beat a game easily. I mean, maybe I'm just a masochist because I play Devil May Cry on Dante Must Die mode, but really....if you play the old Mario games, they're REALLY hard, and I think people have become too accustomed to games being easy.
