When puppy's are between two and three weeks old, before they are old enough to go outside of whelping box to "pea and poop" place a couple of quarts of "Special Kitty" cat litter in the bottom of whelping box. This keeps the inside of the box neat and dry. This will keep down bacteria and odor. It makes for healthier puppies. This "Special Kitty" can be purchased at Wal-Mart and is cheap.
