…but not forgotten. My family and I lost a special hound today. Tears have flowed freely today in the passing of Thorn Gap Dark Mandy II. I’ll be forever grateful to Wayne Thompson for allowing me to own Mandy. “Big” Mandy gave 110% every time she hit the briars. Thanks for the memories Mandy… |

Ole Mandy…hated to stay home. When I carried other hounds to train she could hardly stand it. Hunt…she was what I call “eat-up” with hunt. Have ya ever seen an 80+ degree winners pack with a hound still hunting hard…that was Ole Mandy. She had hunt, desire and a radiator to match. As hard headed as she was…it only took about three times with a low setting on my shock collar for her to figure out what that tone button on my Tri-Trontics meant. When she was “down” and I was ready to go…I could call her and hit that tone button…and she’d come a running. Smart…I shocked her one time off of a deer…no problems after that. She had what I call a squall mouth with a horn. When scent was good she would bring her head up about 4 or 5 inches off the ground and put’ter on cruise control. She could “air scent” with the best of them. She had plenty of gears and the brains to know when to shift. When sent was high she could roll and when then scent was tough…she would bare down and do whatever it took to keep it going. There was just no such thing as a “lost rabbit” when Ole Mandy was down. She wasn’t perfect…but she was awful special to me. |

It is funny that you mention that she would air cent because her son that I own "thorn gap dark cruiser" does this and he is the best at it I have ever had and is a really good check hound with plenty of hunt. It is good to know where some of those traits come from. |
