When puppy's are between two and three weeks old, before they are old enough to go outside of whelping box to "pea and poop" place a couple of quarts of "Special Kitty" cat litter in the bottom of whelping box. This keeps the inside of the box neat and dry. This will keep down bacteria and odor. It makes for healthier puppies. This "Special Kitty" can be purchased at Wal-Mart and is cheap. It is a natural clay product, and is non-toxic. You may already know about this, but if not, it makes raising healthy puppies easier. Jeff Grimes Tall Timber Kennels Andalusia, Al Roll Tide! |

That's a great idea Jeff. If'n Momma has a big ole litter...cleaning up after seven or more, after they turn two or three weeks old can be a chore to keep clean and dry. Especially if your whelping box is built like mine and the pups are four or five weeks old before they can get out, without the help of a short 2X4 laid in the door way. |
