Metal Slug 4

I'm so sorry.

It may not be as good as 1, 2 (and X) or 3, but it's better than half the crap out there. Same goes for 5.

Metal Slug 4

I'm so sorry.

I do think 5 is a little heavily criticized without deserving it (even though it was largely unfinished, it still came out alright, but unfortunately not more than just alright), but I really, really do not like 4. After something as fantastic as 3, it took the Metal Slug name and defecated all over it. It recycled way too many sprites and just played terribly, it was so haphazardly put together.

The game felt a little but like they were trying to make it play more like Contra, but there was a huge impediment to this... The fact that enemy corpses still sucked up bullets after death (which wasn't added until 3, iirc). You can still do reasonably well in the game if you play it slow and methodically, but if you try and play it like any of the other Metal Slugs, the screen just gets swamped with enemies with no way for you to survive.

No matter how you play it, though, it's by far the weakest entry in the series and even without the Metal Slug name to live up to it's a pretty mediocre game. Maybe I mostly just hate it because it masquerades as Metal Slug when it's just not up to par, but bleh. Sorry to explode into rant, there :lol The raging Metal Slug fanboy in me has never forgiven that game. I've had a strong emotional attachment to that series ever since the arcade at the mall my mom watered the plants at got it. My jaw dropped at how absolutely gorgeous it was and how much fun it was to play despite how terrible I was.

You get where I'm coming from, right?

Anyway! :p

Blazing Lazers (VC/TG16)

Just beat Blazing Lazers for the first time. 1 cc'd it. Man, it has some really weird credits music. I love it, but it's somewhat obnoxious. I don't know how to explain it, hahaha. I hadn't tried to beat this one since a couple of years ago when I got to the last stage and got my ass kicked by the long run of bosses (much like Gun*Nac, only I finished that one on my first try). Pretty good game, better than I gave it credit for.

Worst in the series? Yes. Mediocre? Yes. Completely terrible? Personally, I don't think so. I'd still rather play it than half the crap that's out there.

But yes, I do see where you're coming from. Nothing wrong with how you feel, after all, and I can understand why you feel the way you do about it.

Yakuza (PS2)

Nabbed this for under 9 bucks at GameStop with a coupon and I'm really glad that I did, very good game and I'm sort-of embarrassed I picked it up so late (oh well, at least I got it dirt-cheap). Looks like Sega can still do something right. The game's pretty much a modern beat 'em up with RPG elements thrown in as well as missions to accomplish and a city to explore with copious amounts of side-quests. It's got its flaws, sure, but it's still a damn good game (with a surprisingly big emphasis on a story that's actually really interesting).

These stages they will not ruuuuuun

Just to unlock the godforsaken stage 0 in Strider 2, which I downloaded an ISO saying it was the japanese version but it isn't. Jolly good.

Oh yes, this game is pretty cheap too. I didn't even hit Solo once. Since he made me the favor of disappearing from the screen in every instance, I'm not complaining anyway.

Either way I'll be on my way to finish Strider 2 now.

The game rocks. It's basically RE4 via Event Horizon with a hint of The Thing.

Fantastic game. EA is quickly earning my respect with this and Dead Space. I wrote a semi-review and talked a hell of a lot about it over at the HG101 board - http://hg101.proboards92.com/index.cgi?boa...lay&thread=4096

Sengoku Basara X Cross for the PS2, getting all three levels of titles and winning with all the characters.

Now I'm just wondering why I bothered, since the game sucks.

One of the toughest games ever released on the Sega Genesis: Chakan the Forever Man. Beat it without cheats, to boot.

Now I need a new controller.

You can say that again. The Game Gear version was even tougher.

Just finished Warriors Orochi. Wei, Wu, Shu, and Samurai Warriors (Sengoku) stories. I've also unlocked most of the characters, including Goemon.

Got a little work to do before I unlock 'em all, though. Only 11 more to go. :)

Also, I just beat Dawn of Sorrow.

Iridion 2 (GBA)

Fucking astounding graphics for a GBA game (this would have honestly been very good looking for a DS game), but the gameplay is unfortunately rather bland. Well worth the 5 dollars, but I don't think I would have spent more than 10.

Yakuza 2 (PS2)

Excellent successor to the original and even manages to surpass it. One of the best games to be released this year and a true gem to play.

Solar Striker (GB)

The family was all visiting a friend of the family's, today (they live very nearby and their kid really looks up to me), and their kid gave me his copy of "Solar Striker" for the Game Boy because I asked for it (I think it's been chewed on by a dog [he said he found it in a drawer at a gas station years ago], but I jumped at the chance for a free shmup). I beat it (had to youtube video a few boss strategies because they were a little unfair) and was surprised to see it was produced by Gunpei Yokoi. Fun little game, albeit a tad bland (though I can't really blame it for being an early GB game).

ROLLING KOPPU KICK!
Metal Slug 1, 2, 3
All awesome awesome games, with 2 being my favourite. For some reason I've always found 3 too credit munchy, but it is DAMNED awesome!

Shock Troopers
Good change of pace, but it went on too long... Oh well, fun stuff :D

^ Those two with my step brother

Within A Deep Forest
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Best soundtrack I've heard in a LONG while, and wicked, challenging gameplay. Recommended to all

Knytt
This felt like a tech demo and took like 20 minutes to beat, but boy what a 20 minutes! The ending BLEW me away, in a poetic, whimsical way.

Knytt Stories: The Machine
This was good, and I really like the way it is told and how each level someone makes could be canon. I beat it in one sitting though, but it was fun and I still have more stories to play.

Still going through more Knytt Stories things.

Wow, really? I'm finding that hard to believe.

The only reason I beat it was because once I got to the elemental plains I realized the first level of the earth plain had all four potions in it and I could restock whenever I needed while I beat the other three realms first.
