I'm mostly playing Mass Effect (360) lately, but I've been juggling a lot of stuff.

A bunch of NES stuff here, especially Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries and Titan Warriors.

Final Fantasy II for the PSP.

So far, building up your characters is WAY easier than on Final Fantasy Origins.

I've revisited a really obscure one for the SNES called Skuljagger: Revolt of the Westicans. It's silly (pirates and ninjas and bubblegum) and flawed (continue points sometimes spawn you right on top of an enemy, killing you again), but I keep going back to it anyway. I'm intrigued by this legendary instruction manual the game came with, too. Supposedly it was an 80-page comic book detailing the game's premise. Oh, and the in-game art looks like a coloring book.

Personally I'd rather have played as Skuljagger. Bad pirates are more fun.

My current major project is Metroid Prime 3, and I'm getting pretty danged close to beating it. I think this game is simply incredible. I'm also working on beating the UCS side of Front Mission, which is worlds tougher than the OCU side for sure.

Me and Sotenga have beaten it, Sotenga beat it on hard and we both finished challenge mode. I only tried beating hard once or twice, then went onto other games. It's not that I don't like Contra IV, it's one of my favorite games already, it's just I've gotten so much shit lately I haven't even finished a lot of it, higher difficulties will have to wait.

Hard, eh? Awesome! Most people seem to think Normal is insane (even Stuart Campbell, who was Britain's gaming champion or something in the 80s, believes it to be "offputtingly brutal" :p), but I'm finding it no more difficult than the NES Contras, in that once I've seen a level in its entirety, I usually clear it properly on my next attempt. The game's a whole lot easier if you play it with just one credit, 'cos you're restarting and memorizing more of the levels rather than trying to push forward with your peashooter. I'm hoping I'll be able to do Hard one day. I've played Contra III on and off for so long that the Hard mode on that one is always doable, hehe.

I ran through Easy mode too, just so I could unlock the challenges quicker. Playing Easy wouldn't usually feel "right", but all the training the challenges provide will be really beneficial later on. :)

I didn't beat the game on normal until after doing challenge mode, which made normal mode almost a breeze. Pay close attention when you're doing the challenges where you're using a "prototype weapon." You're not shooting five homing bullets, you're actually shooting miniature Vic Vipers (you might have seen a comment on this in another thread, pause the game and give it a look). I didn't find the game nearly as challenging as a lot of people were claiming, but if you want more of my opinions on it read the review I did in the Images and Words section. http://z4.invisionfree.com/The_Third_Moon/...?showtopic=6595 I really, really liked it :lol

Nice one, it's easily my favourite DS game, too. Probably my favourite Contra game overall, when I'm not being slavishly loyal to Contra III! The Vic Vipers look awesome, but it's a pity that the Probotector looks more like Turrican. ;)

Mike, glad to see that you've got your hands on Contra 4. It is indeed as awesome as you thought, eh? ^_^

I will concur that once you get the hang of the game, Normal is very beatable indeed. Hell, I beat it many a time. But Hard mode... heh, well, can't say I truly beat it. I used the weapon power-up Konami Code a few times to roll the odds in my favor, and it did work pretty well. Someday, I'll beat Hard in earnest.

... I'll "beat hard"... dammit, that wasn't intentional! :o

Anyhoo, I used to be playing a lot of Metroid Prime 3, but... well, I beat it, so... go me! I'll note that in the other thread. Currently, I am playing the hell out of Front Mission, attempting to beat the UCS game before I go back to college this weekend. Also, on the PSP, I am playing a lot of Tekken: Dark Resurrection and the Salamander Portable collection, courtesy of Japan. :smug

Milon's Secret Castle is currently giving me a headache. Apparently Zelda 3 wasn't painful enough this year.

I'm due for another Kid Chameleon campaign soon....

EDIT: Kid Chameleon away! For justice!

Hey Rob, if I had one second left til death on the in-game clock and I miraculously found a time powerup that gave me another 3 minutes, does that count as pulling a Braunle?

I'd say it qualifies, yes.

It takes something special in an RPG to hold my attention to the end. Welp, I must say that Square's Live-A-Live is VERY special indeed. Sadly, it never came to the states, but it's an awesome game indeed. It's more like eight really short RPGs lumped into one, each one with a unique setting representing a different epoch of time. Right now, I'm about to begin the final chapter, which... I can't spoil too much about, but it's shaping up to seriously kick ass. :D

... it's games like these that make me sigh when I think of how much of a far cry Squeenix today is compared to Square of old. :(

Earthbound was mine. Charlie Brown meets H. P. Lovecraft, as someone once put it.

Yeah, Earthbound was one of mine as well! That, and Super Mario RPG, the SNES Final Fantasy games, Phantasy Stars 1 through 4 (yes, even 3), erm... uhhhhh... yeah, I really have to go to sleep. But hey, I beat Live A Live! :D

If it weren't for you and Mike I don't think I'd have gotten as into Gradius as I am now. You're also responsible for me getting Life Force and Gradius (although Gradius only on the virtual console)... And Gradius III, which I liked enough on the VC to get a real cop... :lol And lots of other shmups and awesome games too, all of which I'm grateful for.

Your influence is all powerful :notworthy

FF could never keep my attention or make me care about its flat characters. Chrono Trigger's characters had more depth, but it couldn't keep my interest either. Earthbound grabbed me because it was so....bizarre.

Radical Dreamers, though....that one sucked me right in. Anyone play that one yet? There's an English translation patch floating around the net. It's what they based Chrono Cross off of, and it's basically a choose-your-own-adventure book in electronic form with pretty visuals and music. Worth checking out.

I messed with Live-A-Live a bit years ago. The caveman story is my favorite!

Oh, right. What I've been playing. Uh...Joust, I guess.

I just got Red Dead Revolver done downloading today!

This game is awesome... Really puts you in the shoes of a Bounty Hunter in the old west and shows you just how damn dangerous it was to live back in that era... I wouldn't have wanted to live back then... no electricity, no indoor plumbing... and not to mention the bandits that run rampant because they kill every sheriff within a year of them taking the position. Crazy shit.... must've been very boring at times though...

Since it's almost Splatterhouse's 20th anniversary, I've been playing it on the 'Hu-Go!' emulator. My turbografx 16 controller broke, it's gonna take me a little time to get a new one. Till then, that's what emulators are good for.

Oh yes, Earthbound is one my all-time favourite RPG's too.

Games I've been playing recently on my 360 are The Club, Burnout Paradise & Condemned (Condemned 2's looking really good, can't wait for it to come out! :) )
