Game name: Nam This one I've been thinking of a lot. My grandpa served in the Vietnam war and always used to tell me stories back in the day about some of his experiences in the war. Some of the scary things about the war he told me about was things like the traps the Vietnamese would put in the jungles to kill you with. I occasionally watch the Military channel to watch programs where Vietnam veterans would share some of their frightening experiences in the war and with all these stories by my grandpa and other veterans, I made a game idea.....Nam. I've been trying to imagine a game that shares qualities of the old arcade games with the realistic graphics of today and here is what it is. Let me describe to you as if you where the player. You are in an arcade and you here the song 'Paint it Black' by The Rolling Stones. You go to where the music is coming from and find an arcade game called 'Nam'. Before you put your credit in the machine you watch the attract mode screen show you live video footage of the Vietnam war then you see the high score screen. Next you see a demo of the game and you notice it's a first person shooter, as you watch this demo the Stones song ends then the music changes to 'Run Through the Jungle' by Creedence Clearwater Revival. You see a game that looks quite difficult and fast action paced, it's raining and the computer is in an ambush and many of the fellow men around are getting shot when it's so dark you can't see the enemy but you can see and here their guns firing. Eventually the demo ends when the computer runs over a land mine and gets blown up. You put your credit in and press start, you grab the controls and walk in a military line with your group inside this dense jungle for a short moment.....then you begin to here gunfire and soldiers yelling orders and commands....then screaming...you're being ambushed! You can't see any enemies but you fire your machine gun in the directions your fellow men are firing at and you see you're getting some points so you know you are making some hits. Many other soldiers start fleeing and you do too after you notice that if you stay and hold your ground too long you will die. You run through this jungle while shooting and throwing grenades along the way, as your score goes up a decent amount you here 'Born to be Wild' by Steppenwolf start playing. Eventually you accidently step on a net and get lifted in net death trap, as you're in this net you get shot and killed! Basically the gameplay is you play until you die like old arcade and Atari games but with the 3D realistic graphics you see in video games today. When the game is on attract mode it plays music from the Vietnam war era, it also plays music when the player starts scoring good in the game. I'll list many songs I have researched and thought would be excellent in this game. All songs will loop around during the attract mode but songs I put a * next to you'll here as you gain a good score in the game. *Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf I'd love to change the world - Ten Years After Sunshine of your Love - Cream *Run Through the Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival *Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones Five to One - The Doors *No Time - The Guess Who We Will Rock You - Queen I'll Be There - The Four Tops Rescue Me - Fontella Bass *Helter Skelter - The Beatles Nowhere to Run - Martha and the Vandellas *I Want to Take You Higher - Sly and the Family Stone In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (short version) - Iron Butterfly I've included many other things to this game in my imagination, but I need to take a break from typing right now, I'll come back and post more about this game. Tell me what you think of it in the meantime. |

I always pictured a Vietnam War arcade game playing like Robotron, except you never knew who was a friend and who was going to try to kill you, and the point of the game would be to last as long as possible. To make it even more authentic, the average survival rate for the player would be about 16 seconds. |

I think make it hard where average time spent for first time players (Nam virgins) 7 to bout 14 seconds during the ambush would be okay enough authenticity, you think? I also imagined a random beginning of every game you play and since it's said it rains a lot in Vietnam, most battles players should experience should be a blend of light rain, medium rain, heavy rain, and rare, no rain. Players should also beginning game in randomized location in the jungle to always throw something new to players in the game and every game is different every time you play. Also the traps should be randomly plotted at beginning of every game. The traps I included are nets that if you run on top of you get caught and lifted up in it giving all nearby Vietnamese an opportunity to shoot you, but if your lucky your character will automatically pull out a knife and cut yourself out of the net and escape. another trap is the classic spiked log tied to tree branch that they pull back and wait for you to come by so they can release it and kill you with this swinging spiked monstrosity. I also must include land mines. All these traps happen to of actually been used by the Vietnamese during the Vietnam war protecting their jungles from our troops. And one last thing I really must include in this game that happens to be a big part of the Vietnam war even though many people do not like it is drugs. The Vietnamese grew a lot of marijuana in the jungles of their country. What many soldiers experienced during their nasty battles in the jungles was marijuana plants getting set on fire and the troops would then be forced to fight while inhaling the smoke and they got intoxicated which made everything more difficult. The on screen display of the game should include an intoxication meter, as plants get set on fire during the carnage the player should avoid the smoke cause as the player gets caught in it the intoxication meter goes up and if it goes up too high, the player becomes stoned. When the player becomes stoned the screen should have dilated and color changing effects to make things very difficult and kill off the player. |
