Okay, it's not like I got a mountain of stuff or anything like that, but I did score some choice PS2 titles, all used and complete in great shape:

We Posted Image Katamari
R-Type Final
Castle Shikigami 2

So now, aside from Lego Indiana Jones, my PS2 collection is complete (anything past that would just be extra). I haven't sat down and played them yet, although I did test them out to make sure they all worked.

So thanks to Lisa for letting the girls go with me to GameStop to pick out a game (Castle Shikigami 2), and thanks to Len for snagging that copy of We Posted Image Katamari before it vanished (as they seem to be doing on a regular basis), as well as springing for R-Type Final when we swung by the Waterford GameStop the other day.

Oh, I intend to. :smug

Now here's the thing: I owned Shikigami 1, released over here as Mobile Light Force 2 (thanks for fucking that one up, Xs... glad you didn't make the same mistake this time); I owned R-Type Final in early 2004 (bought it brand new but never even got a chance to open it before the Great Crash :( ); and I've only seen Katamari in stores - I own the original, and have wanted to play this one for quite a while.

So... anyone care to offer up any opinions on any of these?

Personally, I fucking adored R-Type Final, it's my favorite entry in the entire R-Type series and I'm a big fan of the series. The gameplay is not the best out of them, just to get that out immediately, but the atmosphere is truly something to appreciate.

"My favorite R-Type game, and, somewhat surprisingly, not entirely because of the gameplay, R-Type Final is one of the most atmospheric games I have ever played, and it's a friggin' shmup! One of the genres you'd least expect something this powerful from. The music is beautiful and ambient, the visuals are stunning and provoke a great deal of thought, and the footnotes at the beginning of each chapter are touching... it makes you feel, for just a moment or two, that you're actually the pilot of this ship. The default final level (there are three different ones, all leading to different endings) really feels like you're delving into and combating your own mind, a symbolism I felt was intentionally placed and very well done. The gameplay, admittedly, isn't the best R-Type has to offer, but, despite that, the game feels like it's evolved a lot further than other shmups in areas they rarely explore."

I said that some time ago. If you play it, don't really worry about collecting all the ships, it distracts from the experience and becomes too much of a chore if you focus on it. I suggest using a guide for the alternate endings and additional/alternate stages, too.

All I know about Shikigami 2 is that it has atrocious voice acting and all I know about Katamari is that's a Katamari game (I'm not a fan of these).

I kind of figured that'd be the case. There's no code to unlock all of them or anything?

I've heard about Shikigami 2's terrible voice acting, but I'm actually looking forward to it just to see how bad it is.

Wow, you have pretty badass little girls! They picked out a pretty radical game, and one that I'd least expect!

Do they like video games?

Oh yeah, Katamari is pretty radical. It has a lot of good stuffs.

That's right, you haven't read MoaVC yet. There's a whole chapter in it about the girls. As far as CS2, they liked the cover art and the idea that you can play as girls (they're at the stage where everything is about girl stuff). I knew what it was, of course, having owned the original way back when, so I had no problem letting them get it for me. This, of course, after steering them away from stuff like Littlest Pet Shop on the DS and other kiddy-oriented games for systems I don't even own. I had to explain to them that A. we don't own the systems that the games they were looking at were for and B. this was for my birthday, not theirs. :lol

Ha ha ha.

I dunno, you seem like the Littlest Pet Shop kinda guy! :p

Heh, my sister is STILL like that! She only plays as girls in fighting games and everything! However, it'll be cool to show her Mirror's Edge (once I get it that is!). Faith seems like she'd be a good rolemodel.

That's just like them. If I put in a game that has a selectable character roster, it's always "Pick the girl! Pick the girl!". It's even worse if there's multiple female characters, because then they get fixated on different aspects, like pink hair or cat ears or something.
