....Got my hands on images of 8 promo posters printed up to sell the forthcoming Clock Tower motion picture, and while the direction they're taking the film in is totally wrong, I have to say that some of these posters are incredible. Below are all 8 images, from my least favorite to my most, with commentary for all. Posted Image Okay....what the hell does this even mean? This is a brutal slasher movie, not an issue of Sandman. Next. Posted Image Alright, definitely a little better. Certainly more to the point anyway, at least featuring Scissorman. But the whole thing just kind of screams mid '90s direct-to-video to me. And what's with the western font? Posted Image Getting better. Nice and ominous, but it's not enough. Yeah, there's a clock tower...so what? It doesn't tell us anything. Posted Image This one gets points for sheer originality. It's really artistic, and most definitely looks like something that would be on the cover of a game itself. But it falls into the trap the first one did by being maybe a little too artistic, and there's a disconnect between the image and what we're sure to get in the film. Posted Image Okay, now we're on to something. Finally the tower & the killer in the same image. It needs work but we're on the right path. Here's my top 3. I'd love to see all of these hanging in the theater lobby, and eventually on my wall... Posted Image This just makes me laugh. It's a great image, and totally looks like a faded video you'd grab in a mom & pop rental shop circa 1982. Posted Image Now we're GETTING somewhere! The whole thing is great, from the composition to the sepia tone, to the pose & placement of Scissorman. Love this one. Now on to our winner..... Posted Image Here's the big fat badass of the bunch. This is just perfect, a chilling, iconic shot of our movie's killer, cold and shadow-soaked, and with a big fuckin' pair of shears coming right at our face. The look of Scissorman (or, well, "Eleazor Barrows" as he's known in the film) is really effective....it sure as hell ain't the Bobby, Dan or John Barrows we grew up with, and that's a total shame....but if they have to go this way, it could be very effective (though I'd hope Mr. barrows is a bit more detailed ultimately). Let's just hope it comes off as well in motion. What say you, the people?! |

....Oh yes, and here's that character breakdown I spoke of. It's clues to the plot are not too promising.... [DR. THOMAS BATES] is in his 40s – 50s and married, with a young daughter, he is a renowned psychiatrist who has finally given up a long stint in a maximum security psych ward for private practice. However, his new upscale patients are boring rather than challenging, and he jumps at the chance to dig his teeth into something more substantial. We later learn that Thomas, not unlike Alyssa, suffered a disturbing childhood, and lost his schizophrenic mother to suicide. As a young boy he had vowed to learn how to make the voices that plagued her go away. While he could not save his mother, he finds a chance to do something right in the life of Alyssa Hale...LEAD (9) [ELEAZER BARROWS] 40s – 60s. He's a grizzled man with a terrifying face in a long black robe, usually seen with an antique pair of shears, he is a fire 'n' brimstone preacher from the 17th century, responsible for the hanging of a great number of "witches." He now makes his presence known to those remaining members of the Hale family, including Alyssa Hale and Chloe Bates...LEAD (6) [SANDI BATES] is in her mid 30s – early 40s, wife of Thomas and mother to their six-year-old daughter, Sandi is a likable, nurturing woman, a furniture restorer who works out of the home. She's happy to have her husband working regular hours with more sane patients, irritated and concerned when he takes such an interest in the case of a young woman at the hospital. Later, she becomes alarmed when it seems that Thomas may harm their little girl...LEAD (11) [DR. HENRY KAPLAN] is in his 40s, African-American, he is the psychiatrist resident at the hospital, currently treating Alyssa Hale. Perplexed by Alyssa's lack of response to massive medication, he calls in the much-revered Dr. Thomas Bates. He's taken aback when Thomas tells him to take Alyssa off her meds, despite the many traumas she's suffered...LEAD (3) [CHLOE BATES] 6 years old, she is Thomas and Sandi's adorable daughter, a bright and precocious child who is constantly conversing with her imaginary friends. However, we later learn that one of these imaginary "friends" is an evil preacher, responsible for the persecution of many witches in the 17th century. Her innocent childhood is being shattered by a disturbing presence...LEAD (11) [JESSICA COOK] In her 40s, she is the wife of the late Edmund Cook, an expert on the Hale family as well as an avid collector of all things pertaining to the Hales. She quickly opens up to Alyssa and Thomas after learning that they are both part of the Hale clan. However, she's clearly tired of all the "crap" in her home and is looking to move soon. She is more than happy to give Alyssa the infamous shears used by the notorious preacher, Eleazer Barrows...15 speeches & 5 lines, 1 scene (81) PLEASE SUBMIT INTERESTING CHARACTER FACES! ANY SHAPE OR SIZE. [LUNDY] In his 30s, mentally unstable, he is a grubby looking patient who is always making sexual overtures towards Alyssa. Later, he comes to a bad end while trying to rape Alyssa in the hospital basement...1 speech & 5 lines, 3 scenes (5) |

The second poster kinda killed it for me. Though I cannot say I played the game(s), although I have been meaning to, it kinda gives me the impression that they are trying a bit too hard to make him look evil and cool. While in comparison, a scene used in The Burning where the killer raises the scissors into the air became iconic with the movie (enough to be parodies by a certain game franchise). I do agree with 5thman, it probably will be like Silent Hill. I did not enjoy that movie, but then again, never really was a fan of the game series either. But at least the posters are creative. |

....Clock Tower will probably be trash, but Silent Hill was good! Okay, so the leads kinda sucked, and they needn't have messed with the nature of The Order, but the rest was ace!!! *shakes fist* |

Hmm, are these posters from some sort of online Photoshop competition?, they all seem a bit trial and error with very little sense of continuity. Some of them aren't bad though, I like number 7. Oh, and personally I enjoyed Silent Hill the movie, It really had the visual feel of the games, and it gave the feel that the makers had at least studied the game in some detail, not just picked up the licence, visited a couple of forums and hoped for the best, oh and Pyramid Head rocks. Way better than Resi Extinction. |

I saw these just as corpse's posted them. When I came online a little later today (job interview), frienda mine who's a huge Clock Tower geek (like me) was like "WHAT THE FUCK, THEY ALREADY MESSED WITH THE -FUCKING- SCISSORS! THAT MOTHERFUCKER AIN'T SCISSORMAN", and so on and on. But, you know, I know some bona-fide Constantine fanatics who actually enjoyed the Keanu Reeves flick. I'm guessing I may as well ride with tide for Clock Tower. My hopes for it are abysmally low, but if I can sit back and enjoy the ride, well, whatever. Of course, my fingers are still crossed for a proper adaptation sometime later down the road by some unseen twist of fate properly detailing the tale of Bobby and Dan Barrows. And fuck what others say, Bobby's the superior killer. |

Sure, besides for the less than 20 minutes of plot (and it being trite, predictable ghost story plot, no less), the other two hours of nothing fucking happening but the dumb twat mom running around aimlessly, the arbitrarily inserted Silent Hill 2 monsters that had no reason to be there except fan service, the lack of an original soundtrack, the total lack of the metaphor and substance that the early Silent Hills were known for, and the utter waste of Sean Bean, it was a stand-up flick. |

I kill you 5thman. I kill you dead. :axechase As for those posters looking kinda off, they are. They're pre-prod sales posters, so they probably won't resemble the final product at all. I love that last one. And it sure as HELL isn't REMOTELY the real Scissorman, but they did call him Barrows, and posit his origin as hundreds of years ago, so maybe down the road they can introduce the Scissorlads as his progeny. We can only hope. |

The bottom one is my favorite but the font doesn't work for me. I'd say half of them look like they belong on a Dream Theater album cover. I love the Silent Hill games and I love the movie, I even bought it on DVD. I consider it to be the best video-game-movie to date. |
