Power-ups have usually made the game easier, but in this poll, such is not the case. These are the six worst ideas for power-ups I could come up with. Which one do you think the game could've done without? Game: Wizards and Warriors for the NES Power-up: The Cloak of Darkness Function: Turns Kuros into a shadow, which makes him harder for the gamer to see. However, the enemy seems to have no trouble getting to you, and if that didn't make it useless enough, it also doesn't make you invincible. Game: Megaman 3 for the NES Power-up: Top Spin Function: Allows Megaman to spin around like a top while jumping. This weapon will only work if you hit someone while jumping, and it can be tricky. This weapon is also Shadow Man's weakness. But if you're going to try a jumping ballet spin on a ninja, you're pretty much fucked. Game: Final Fantasy for multiple systems Power-up: Vox Spell (AMUT in the NES version.) Function: Removes the effects of the Mute condition. This spell is actually quite trivial, as most of your enemies don't even inflict the Mute condition on you. Game: Castlevania-Symphony of the Night for the PSX/PSP Power-up: Peanuts Function: Gives Alucard 50 HP upon consumption. However, the programmers saw fit to make Alucard flick a sole peanut in the air. To eat it, you gotta get right under it, press up, and pray that it touches your head. If you miss, the peanut hits the ground and you lose the peanut. Game: Earthworm Jim 2 for the SNES/Genesis Power-up: Bubble Gun Function: Fires harmless bubbles, hence its name. That's it. You'd be better off using ANY of Jim's other weapons. Game: Phantasy Star IV for the Genesis Power-up: Alis Sword Function: Use as a weapon. In a Guild Mission, if you give this to a sick kid, he'll feel better, and you'll be compensated. If you fight with it in battle, you'll probably end up getting your ass kicked, as this toy sword is the weakest sword in the game. |
