I know that MMORPGs and certain newer consoles are the norm, nowadays, but before that, and before older video games, there was pinball. This time around, I'm going to make mention of video pinball games. I'm sure that a lot of you know about the various video games that play a lot like pinball. From as early as Atari Pinball and Midnight Magic to the later games like Alien Crush, Sonic Spinball, and KISS Pinball (Take 2 released that one for the PlayStation.), these two worlds have collided on many occasions. They range from generic, as in NES Pinball, to nostalgic, as in Pinbot, to pretty damn cool, as in Devil Crush. Objectives may differ in each game, but the goal's still the same. Score as many points as possible, keep the ball in play, and try not to tilt. (In Sonic Spinball, the only time you can tilt is in a Bonus Stage.) There's even a compilation for the PS2 called, "Pinball Hall of Fame-The Gottlieb Collection," which allows you to play many actual pinball games as a videogame. They range from the more modern light-ups to the retro 50's, and there's even one unlockable table from the turn of the 20th Century, in which you try to make a winning hand in a card game. So, of all the pinball videogames released, which is your favorite? As for mine, it's pretty hard to decide, so I'm going between NES Pinbot and Devil Crush. |

Damn, it's a tough call. Devil's Crush and Alien Crush are both amazing, but for straight-up pinball action I heart Super Pinball: Behind the Mask. The ball movement is smooth and realistic, the action is lightning fast, and the entire table is displayed on a single screen. Posted Image In most console pinball games the camera either follows the ball (like Pinball Fantasies) or more commonly the table is split into segments and the camera cuts from one segment to the other depending on the ball's location. At times these perspectives disorient me, screw up my aim, or both (especially Pinball Fantasies because it also had the bright idea to zoom in on the ball like a porn director on a money shot). Super Pinball never disorients me because I always know exactly where everything is. Has anyone else played Pataank? 3-D Pinball from the ball's perspective. Terrible idea! |

We used to have a SEGA Saturn and we had a game called 'The Last Gladiators' which was a compilation game of real pinball machines of The Last Gladiators series. I played that game a lot with my dad and every machine too. All the pinball games on that game are my favorites. |
