Resident Evil 5; Worth the wait?

I finally picked up my copy of RE5 yesterday (Complete with funky little Chris Redfield figurine for preordering) and last night I sat down and played through the first third of the game. Does it live up to the hype?

In my opinion... possibly.

Graphically, it is amazing, and Capcom have gone with an "If it ain't broke..." approach to the gameplay, so it is nearly the same as RE4 in that respect. The big change of course is the addition of a partner who is with you throughout the game. This is where you come to your first hurdle of the game, getting used to looking after your partner (Especially if she is CPU controlled). Having to share ammo and supplies can be a pain in the ass, but after about an hour, you start to get used to it.

The other slight downfall is the characters themselves. While both protagonists are good characters, they feel a little... generic. While RE4 had Leon Kennedy who was more of the 'Charismatic and cool' hero, Chris is much more serious, and well, kind of bland so far. Your partner Sheva is more of the same and because of that, it feels like a bit of a boring pairing when compared to previous games (Jill/Carlos, Leon/Ada, Rebecca/Billy, ect.) But this is only a minor gripe (And I am only about a third into the game so it should pick up)

Apart from that though, the game is quite good, and if you are a fan of RE4, you should get into this quite quickly.

What is everyone elses thoughts on this game?

ROLLING KOPPU KICK!
From the demo, I loved it, but damn I'd be too scared to go in alone! I need co-op for this game, and its not even scary anymore!

Man, I loved it. This game was really worth the wait. The gameplay is really refined from the system in RE4, and the story really tied up a few things in the plot, though still leaving alot of intigue.

I just got Platinum in it today, overall it's a little short but there's alot of replay value in co-op.

Pauper Nation :(

I'm just going to say that every time the concept of poverty pops up. It also sounds like the title of a book... maybe one I should write?

But anyway, to the subject at hand. I do have some cash to spare, but not a massive amount, and while I'm now a big RE fan, I'm not to the degree of other diehards for the series. I will wait for purchase. However, I did think RE4 was awesome-and-a-half, and from what I gather, this game is almost as good as RE4, though not quite. There are a few hang-ups here and there (mostly due to the inevitable faults with your partner's artificial intelligence, something that's ALWAYS a problem in almost every game to ever exist), but I hear it's very good. I liked the demo, and I'm sure I will like the full product a hell of a lot more.

Also, I've had a good chunk of the plot deliberately spoiled, which is no big when it comes to RE. I'll just say it's pretty much as ridiculous as you think. ;)

I am personally excited for RE: Darkside Chronicles. Since Umbrella Chronicles was a blast, having a railshooter of RE2 (my fav of the whole series) and Code Veronica sounds just great.

What's Darkside Chronicles? I haven't heard of it before.

A new RE game for the Wii, taking the same direction that RE: Umbrella Chronicles did, remaking the games of the series into rail shooters in the same fashion of House of the Dead. The main focus of Umbrella Chronicles was to bring us facts unseen before about the Umbrella Cooperation both in the game's story as well as secret articles that can be found mostly by shooting objects. Umbrella Chronicles focused on a few games of the series, but missed out on a few such as RE2 and Code Veronica.

This is where the sequel, Darkside Chronicles comes in. I am not sure which games or the main focus is yet, but we are getting footage of RE2 being remade into the form of a rail shooter. Unlike UC which was drastically shortened versions of the games, DC might bring us through RE2 at a slower pace and/or longer gameplay. I say that Code Veronica might be played through in DC because of a few pieces of speculation. One being the most obvious that the game was not covered in UC. The second is that UC covered all of the games that Jill Valentine starred in. Being that Claire Redfield is the main focus in both RE2 and Code Veronica makes that more likely.

The game appears to have the secondary character in 3rd person unlike UC. The graphics are impressive for a Wii game as well. All of this is just based on speculation as this is the only released trailer of gameplay footage.

I still haven't played Unbrella Chronicles but that one looks amazing too. It looks like there are poarts of the game where you are paired up with the CPU and that's why they're in 3rd person. Either that or online co-op play.
