As indicated by my overdue avatar change (which is of Roger Wilco, protagonist of the Space Quest series, specifically from SQ4), I am currently hooked on Sierra, awesome American developer and the pioneer of graphic adventure titles. Key among these types of games are King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, and Gabriel Knight; others that are less famed but still notable are Manhunter, Laura Bow, the two Conquests games, Rise of the Dragon, Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist, and the Adventures of Willy Beamish. They're also responsible for some not-adventure titles, like the edutainment Dr. Brain games or The Incredible Machine, where the goal is to create Rube Goldberg devices to accomplish a task. To many gamers today, they are most respected for the ever-awesome Half-Life, one of the few modern FPS titles I actually enjoy and one of their last games before being eaten by Vivendi.

I know most people on this board mostly stick to console games, and I can understand, what with accomodating settings to play PC games is often a ROYAL bitch to get working right. Still, I'm curious to know if anyone here is a Sierra fan for whatever reason. I can see where their adventure titles would be hated by many (mostly due to the incredible "dislogic" of many of their puzzles, leading to what are called "Guide Dang It" moments on TV Tropes), but did anyone ever play any Sierra titles and would like to talk about them?

I have always been and still am a fan of the old classic Sierra games. From King's Quest to Space Quest to Quest for Glory. It had it all, good story, funny shit throughout the whole thing, good puzzles, and later in the installments good voice work. Sigh....sometimes I miss the old days.... :rtfo :rtfo

I actually had collections of King's Quest and Space Quest when growing up, but I never played them much. Hell, my brother didn't even play them much. Probably because we had no idea what we were doing in them, and this is a persistent problem in most of these types of games. I am now rediscovering them through the magic of DOSBox and obtaining them... well, no, nevermind on that. Thankfully, in an era where FAQs are abundant, if we get overly frustrated, we could always just look up what to do next.

Besides, I think adventure titles are more played for the experience and less for the gameplay itself. :)

So, Dave, what specific Sierra titles do you remember liking the most?

I loved all the King's Quest series. Quest for Glory was pretty cool but my favorite is probably Space Quest 6: The Spinal Frontier. I mean great voice work, the narrator was fricken Gary Owens.....need I say more?!

My favorite Sierra games are Phantasmagoria, a story about a woman who unleashed a demon which turned her husband into a maniac, and Half-Life, which I'm sure most of you familiar with.

Yeah, Phantasmagoria was alot of fun. Not really as gory as I expected it to be from the hype, but I guess it blew people away back in the day when the main character gets her head split open.

It's funny you should mention Sierra games though Mike, as I've been snooping around myself trying to get a hold of the old adventure games they used to make. I watched a full playthrough of King's Quest V on YouTube the other week.

I remember playing Kings Quest on my friends Apple way back in the mid to late 80s. Good times.

Very much a fan of the classic Sierra and all it's wonderful series (Space Quest and Quest for Glory probably are my faves, but I love most of them). I definitely miss the 'old days' of graphic adventures...between Sierra and Lucasarts (and Westwood for the Kyrandia series), it was a great time of PC gaming. Puzzles, points, humor, deaths...all good stuff.

Actually, I've also lately been rewatching playthroughs (and humorous death lists) via Youtube and such from all the series. Nostalgia is high. ^^
