I was joking with one of my friends the other day about the sad state of Sega whoring the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, saying that they need to put Sonic away for a while and bring back Alex Kidd as a new mascot character (He was Sega's original mascot after all) :lol

Anyway, This got me thinking, as we are in the age of remakes. What games and franchises would you like to see brought back, if you could guarantee they wouldn't suck?

Eternal Champions: I loved these games, and the trilogy was never finished because of Sega of Japan forcing Sega of America to can the third game so they could push Virtua Fighter <_< (An ironic fate for a game about fighters killed unfairly before they could achive greatness)

Road Rash: One of the guilty pleasures of my youth. This franchise is ripe for a comeback, and I think is one of the games that would be really cool to make use of the Wii.

Illbleed: I've always said that if I won the lottery or something, I would buy the license to this game and hire a group of horror obsessed writers, artists, and independent developers to remake this game.

So come on, what would you like to see.

Genpei Toumaden (Samurai Ghost/Tale Of The Heike and Genji Clans in the US). Just because the Genpei war is my favorite era of Japanese history.

I'd love to see another Alex Kidd game. A good one. One that is at least as good as Miracle World and Enchanted Castle.

As far as franchises I'd like to see brought back... ummm... how about Time Pilot? Don't forget, there was a second game in the series, Time Pilot '84.

Gargoyle's Quest FFS (for fucking sure). As far as I recall the original producer Toshio Fujiwara ("Professor F" for the intimate) has even returned to Capcom.

I guess Rushing Beat also, now that apparently they'd have the resources NOT to fuck the game as badly as they did in the transition from Shura to "Peace Keepers" (I even got word from the guy who handled the localization on that, can you believe it? :lol). And Shura had lots of interesting concepts for a beat 'em up, 'd love to see them more fledged.

I guess I don't think I even need to mention the god damn ninja who (possibly) doesn't slide on ice, breathes in outerspace and survives atmospheric re-entry either (most metal sentence ever without involving some sort of gore).

Mega Man Legends.

Sure, it's getting a few cell phone games, but I can't read Japanese and cell phone spin-offs hardly count for squat.

I agree with the Road Rash series. I wouldn't mind something in the Shadowrun series, the SNES was okay, and the Sega one was wayyy better. We won't talk about the Xbox one.

I love the 360 Shadowrun. While it may not be a good "Shadowrun" game, it is an EXCELLENT multiplayer FPS. I'd argue the best, actually, from my point of view.

When it comes to Illbleed, it's such a masterpiece I would be down for a port to another system with some graphical improvements. Do not get me wrong, it still looks great, just could use some improvements such as less hard edges in polygons and moving mouths. I would suggest some added missions for the heck of it.

Personally I think the game would fit with a port on the Wii. Illbleed can use the innovative control style in such way as easier horror monitor aiming.

---

I will also like to see Alex Kidd making his return. What with Sonic the Hedgehog becoming a dreadful character, it would be neat to see him being brought back. For the mostpart, he was pushed away when Sonic was invented back in the day, as he replaced him in the mascot role.

---

Personally I would like Namco to make a serious Tower of Dragua game in which would be a full length story and adventure, in a fashion similar to Legend of Zelda. Somehow I feel the last attempts were a bit lacking. I suppose I should say dungeon crawling is good, but it only goes so far when the game is fully within a tower.

I'd bring back the Final Fight Streetwise franchise BUT I'd get rid of the supernatural Resident Evil side of it and bring it back to good ol beatdowns.

Resident Evil Dead Aim franchise, atleast another one. The engine for the game was fantastic, I don't know why it didn't do so well.

Nightmare Creatures.

I'm totally for the Illbleed revamp too, mainly because I never played it and I want to so bad. The youtube videos aren't enough.

...Can I join?!

For god's sake yes, bring back Illbleed. My life depends on it. So does Vlygar's.
Youtube videos can NEVER be enough.

Monster Party needs to be resurrected, with not a damned thing changed. Let's just see what the kid got up to after the first game!

Friday The 13th would be an outstanding game, if done correctly. Some of the ideas from the NES days were actually really good, but for the piss-poor execution (HA!). Moreover, I'd say the player should, if he or she chooses, be allowed to play AS Jason, enacting a Manhunt-esgue stealth slashing campaign of terror (online death match, anyone?!). Which brings me to.....

Clock Tower. As much as I really dug "3" (actually the fouth in the series), I'd kill to see a proper trilogy capper for the original Scissorman storyline.

And I'm fully with Vlygar on Nightmare Creatures.

Finally, anyone remember that Land Of The Dead game for XBox? Any takers on an full-blown Romero-verse open ended from-begining-of-rise-to-end-of-society survial epic?!

Unsurprisingly, you were already the first person on my recruitment list ;)

Acording to the Wikipedia article, It was supposed to have been in line for a remake on the Xbox back in 2003, but the the CEO of the company died and a corporate takeover as well as budgets cuts put the final nail in the games coffin.

:(

I have a couple more.

Wonderboy: This series rocks and Wonderboy III: The dragons trap is an absolute classic and I think this is another franchise ready for a comeback.

Sweet Home: Capcom horror RPG, 'nuff said.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned. Yeah I'm agnostic, but let's keep things diplomatically well between us. But how the hell did I forget this franchise?

I think that with the current gen capabilities, a fifth Clock Tower is long overdue. But due honesty, this is where a "back to basics" approach really should be applied for the betterment of the game (yeah. I'm talking about you, Capcom, in more than one regard).

Primarily: Scissorman? Fuck yes.
Stupid clown-like twins with swords? Fuck no.

Secondly: this was "survival horror" as closest as it got to these two words in the series' first ventures. We don't need bosses trying to pull out Devil May Cry moves and fucking energy waves while you fucking stab them with the Justice Arrow of Sagittarius™. Hell, we don't need "BOSSES". We need a methodic killer, if lethargy worked in properly all the better, trying to kill you the most creative ways that would give titular horror movie franchise runners a run for their money while you try to piece together what the living fuck is going on (something the first Clock Tower achieved with honors. See where I'm going with this?).

Thirdly: quit the immense "random encounter" rate. The very first Clock Tower is incredibly well crafted in suspense because you're left with your own footsteps until you fuck up being curious and as a result El Bobbarino comes from hell with the wrath of an angry midget-devil ready to put giant garden scissors to good use. Not that they should get rid of the "random encounter", but honestly, the SNes version gives me a much stronger feeling of dread than the PSX one ever will. Especially because even for a 16-bit game there's always some new shit for you to find, and odds are you'll end up triggering Bobby in his sick game of hide-and-seek in ways you didn't even know - and there's just this incredible sense of irony that you, yourself, is bringing your own demise by checking these things.

In the PSX Scissors shows up so frequently that any panic built within the player eventually will just leave him groaning. Some of the ways to get rid of Scissors were also incredibly lame and worked all the time, which just made matters worse. Is he chasing you? Not to worry, run all the way over to the other side of wherever the hell you are for the infallible "broom to the head" in the bathroom or the FINE THREAD you'll lay in the floor and he'll just fall down, but for some reason decide it's better to postpone hide and seek for about more three minutes.

But what the hell. Even if a new Clock Tower came out failing to meet all the criteria above, odds are I'd play the fuck out of it anyway. :lol Provided I can get access to whichever console would it be in.

What about a modern Monster Party sequel in the style of Illbleed?

OK, so it's not fully retro, but it's worth posting here.

News on Silent Hill remake for the Wii

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Hill:_Shattered_Memories

Now in my personal opinion, the original Silent Hill was the best, and it would be nice to see this brought back with updated graphics, and I like some of the ideas that they are planning to implement.

I have to say the ideas they're pitching for this remake do sound very interesting indeed. Especially when they said they'd rather focus on monster evading than fighting. To me it detracts a lot of "survival horror" if you're met with unnameable hellspawn #666 and you say "EAT SHIT AND DIE" and send it back to Sheol with two rounds of a shotgun.

Perhaps related too, as I came across this in another forum:
http://kotaku.com/5238574/what-sequels-does-japan-want

Some stuff that hasn't seen a follow-up in a decade there, I guess maybe it can count as retro enough.

Would we actually GET to see the stolen katana of ultimate power this time around? :lol

And I demand the final boss to be Darc Seed's wife, little green woman with tits and everything.

Apparently there were two other versions of Zombie Nation with different characters to play as. One being a tengu (which is a long nosed demon) and some guy in sunglasses.

But yeah, a totally oddball game. Rumors say the game was created on a mistranslation for the studio who made it. The game was suppose to be starring a head of a legion of samurai who kill zombies. Apparently "head" was taken literally.

I'd bring back the Final Fight Streetwise franchise BUT I'd get rid of the supernatural Resident Evil side of it and bring it back to good ol beatdowns.

Quoted for great justice.

Incidentally, I'd remove many of the escort missions from the game. Toward the end, that's where you get screwed over, and it's probably a major reason why I never beat it.

Eternal Chamions: Hell yes!!! Bring it back for crying out loud, tell SOJ to STFU!

Road Rash: Yes too.

Illbleed: Mega F***ing yes!!! The flavor of this game was so unforgetful, it's just dying for more to be done with the premise or at least a smoother remake.

...

Few of mine, although you can guess them...

Valis: Let's try it again guys, this time though...NO FRIGGIN' TENTACLES!!! >:

The Earnest Evans (El Viento) trilogy: Can we please make the 3rd game again, this time...as a good game? And make it understandable too?

Alisia Dragoon: Not really a franchise, but I'd love GameArts to give her another outing. Just one catch: Don't you dare let Squeenix touch it...haven't you learned after what those bums did to Grandia (3) and Silpheed (Project Sylpheed)? And maybe a worthy Lunar too. Go ask Falcom to come back and give us another Zeliard while you're at it.

Quartet/Double Target: Huh? Sorry, it's one of my old classic favorites, and I wouldn't mind the Sega of the 90s giving it another shot. Including in arcades. (Note 'Sega of the 90s' there)

Alien Syndrome: Yes, there was a recent Wii/PSX sequel of sorts. Sorry Sega, try it again please...we want a top down shooter with good action and memorable enemies/bosses, not palette swaps and MAG shops...speaking of top down...

Smash TV/Total Carnage series: I prefer the former to the latter, but I really miss the tough as nails overhead shooter with the tongue-in-cheek humor. A Smash sequel (direct sequel) was once apparently planned but never came together.

Splatter...oh wait...

More to come...

A couple more I thought of....

The 2D Sonic games. Each one of those was excellent. Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic CD, and the lock-on madness that is Sonic & Knuckles. Even Sonic Spinball was pretty good. Yeah, to be perfectly honest, since the release of Sonic 3D Blast, the series pretty much went to shit.

The Chrono Series. There were only two released games to my knowledge. Chrono Trigger, which was the shiznit, and Chrono Cross, which, while inferior to Chrono Trigger, was a damn pretty game. I heard there was a third game, but damn if I know what it's called or if it's been scrapped or not.

The Maximo Series. Two games were made, and a third was being planned before Studio 8 shut down. It pisses me off that, instead of transferring the project to another department, they just ended the series on a fucking cliffhanger.

Nothin'll beat the classics though.
