Did you ever notice how in some games, guest appearances and references to other game characters were abound? I'll point out two such games. Super Mario RPG. Guest stars-Link (Zelda series) and Samus (Metroid series). Link-In the Rose Town Inn after defeating Bowyer, you'll notice that Link is taking a snooze in one of the beds. Try speaking to him, and he'll make the "secret discovered" sound. Samus-In the Mushroom Kingdom Castle's guest room after defeating Yaridovich but before going to Land's End, Samus can be found resting in a bed, wearing full armor. She'll inform you that she's resting up for Mother Brain. In addition, if you look in the Hino-Mart, you can see replicas of F-Zero racers. Also, as Mario decides to head to Bowyer, fists flying, Mallow will hold him back, shouting, "Who do you think you are? Bruce Lee?" This is the first RPG in which Bruce Lee received mention. Secret of Evermore. Guest stars-Various Final Fantasy VI cast, Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV.). FFVI cast-During your battle with Vigor the "Indestructible", you may notice a few familiar faces in the crowd. Mog, Locke Cole, Terra Branford, Strago Magus, and Relm Arrowny can be seen in the audience. Cecil Harvey-The main protagonist of Final Fantasy IV, apparently not satisfied with being the new King of Baron, is a shopkeeper in the kingdom of Ebon Keep. He'll ask you if you remember his battle against Zeromus, and eventually will mention his wife, Rosa Farrell, who is not seen in this game. Incidentally, the last names were unmentioned in this game. I looked them up. Which other games do you remember with cameos and/or inside references? |

There are the various Konami Man appearances (The Goonies II, Stinger, etc.). Does the hidden Moai in Castlevania count? |

I'd say so, and it's a fine example. Anyway, I thought of a couple Sonic the Hedgehog references in two RPGs for the Genesis. Shining Force II. There is a special stage where you can fight all the main bad guys of the game, and the map very much resembles Sonic's face. Phantasy Star IV. There are a couple books in Saya's school. One of them is entitled, "Run, Hedgehog, Run!" That one's obviously a Sonic reference. Another book shares a title with another successful Sega series. The book's title is, "Golden Axe, Vol. 1." I've even been informed that Mario and Wario make a guest appearance in the game, "Pilotwings 64." Mario's face appears on a Mt. Rushmore-like mountain. Blast it, and it turns into Wario. |

In the game Under The Skin, there is a whole level based on Raccoon City with the Nemesis chasing you around. You can take control of zombies and some names from the RE series. A nice mock-up of the Kendo Gun Shop and RPD station are in the level. Eddie from Iron Maiden is in one of the Tony Hawk games. |

Some more guest stars comin'. Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP. Aside from Cloud Strife, another famous Final Fantasy protagonist, FFXII's Balthier, whose class is Sky Pirate, will join your party. And since this version has voices, Gideon Emory reprises his role. Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! for the arcades. Before they took active roles in the home console versions for the NES and Wii, Mario and Donkey Kong were in the audience. Earthbound for the SNES. If you look closely at the arcade games, several of them display the Donkey Kong game. Sadly, though, the limitations of the SNES made it so you couldn't actually play any of them. In addition, some of the music in the Onett Arcade sounds remarkably like the arcade classic, Xevious. Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the SNES. Two franchises are referenced in this Konami classic. The first hidden bonus, the head of Kid Dracula, is worth $100. Aside from that, some of the arcades allow you to play a one-life round of Gradius. |

In the Beavis and Butthead game on SNES and Sega, there's a shop where you can play an arcade game, it's a knock-off of Mortal Kombat with I believe Beavis as Kano and Butthead as Goro. |

Gilius Thunderhead appears in "Shining in the Darkness" as a shopkeeper. The shop has a lot of the weapons and items from Golden Axe. The lil' thief's face appears on a sign, too. Gilius also appears TWICE in Alien Storm. Once on a TV with other Golden Axe characters and again as a score judge. The Yashichi power-up/bonus item in a lot of Capcom games was originally an enemy in Capcom's first game, Vulgus. Chun-Li and Guile appear in Final Fight 2 backgrounds. Chun-Li is in the first area of the game in a restaurant and Guile is in some foreign airbase for some reason. The Fantastic Four's headquarters, the Baxter Building, appears in Marvel vs. Capcom even though the F.F. isn't mentioned in any of the games (maybe because Acclaim had the rights at the time). Strider uses a bunch of old sprites for bonus point items including SonSon and something from Higemaru (the barrels or something). |

Mega Man is a playable character in Cannon Spike. MegaMan.EXE and Zero (as he appears in the MMZ games) are playable Onimusha Blade Warriors. Shin Megami Tensei games have a lot of these, it would require a very, very long list to put each of them down. One of the neatest ones, however, is Shin Megami Tensei 2 (I believe it was this one, I know it was one not published here) having Stephen King's "Christine" appear as a common enemy. I believe you can find a portrait of Vash the Stampede in Wild ARMS 2. There was at least one other Trigun reference in the game, as well, I think it may have been a bar name. Not a "game on game" crossover, but pretty cool. Django, from the Boktai series, appears in some of the Mega Man Battle Network games, and, likewise, MegaMan.EXE appears in at least one of the Boktai games. I know I know so many more of these lol. |

A couple more I thought of. Final Fight 3. -In the first stage, one of the prisoners looks remarkably like Zangief. Megaman Legends 2. -If you head into a building, early in the game, and look at a TV, an O.G. Megaman cartoon can be seen. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. -Shang Tsung's Friendship transforms him into a Joust hero, who flies away. -Nightwolf's Friendship transforms him into Raiden, who wasn't in the game. |

I totally forgot to mention the Metal Gear Solid cameos and references. Metal Gear Solid for the PSX. If you have a save from the game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on your memory card when you get to Psycho Mantis, he'll ask you, "You like Castlevania, don't you?" Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the GameCube. Dolls of Mario and Yoshi can be found in Hal Emmerich's office. Shooting Mario can slightly restore your life. Metal Gear Solid 2. -A Vulcan Raven action figure makes an appearance in the Tanker mission. -Spawn's emblem makes an appearance in this game. It appears on several boxes marked, "McFarlane Toys," who also made the collectible action figure line. Metal Gear Solid 3. -CalorieMate, an actual Japanese health food company, plays an important role in this game. -Many movies, such as 007, Godzilla, and Plan 9 From Outer Space, have received mentions from Dr. Clark, AKA Para-Medic. -This may be puely speculation, but I heard that Reiko Hinomoto from Rumble Roses, as well as her evil counterpart, Rowdy Reiko, made an appearance in the online game. In addition, in the game, Rumble Roses, you'll see advertising banners for Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Gradius in the audience. EDIT-And finally, unrelated to Konami in any way, but this should've been mentioned sooner, in Secret of Mana, two Christmas icons, Santa Claus and his red-sniffered reindeer, Rudolph, make a guest appearance. |

A few more I discovered from The Punisher. -ASM 129, the license plate on the car that tries to mow Punisher down is a reference to the Punisher's debut, The Amazing Spider-Man, issue 129. -Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil, appears as Punisher's attorney. In addition, he is also mentioned in Lucky's Bar. -Other guest appearances include Black Widow, Col. Nick Fury, and Iron Man. -The Godfather is referenced in this game on a couple of occasions. -The Russian, that oversized monster in the red-and-white-striped T-shirt, also makes references to two Marvel superheroes. The Hulk, when he shouts, "Russian smash!" and the Thing, when he knocks out Fury, saying, "It's clobbering time!" |

Pocket Fighter has references and cameos from TONS of Capcom games. The stages and filled with characters, places and references to games plus some of the playable characters can transform into characters from other series'. Fore example, Felicia can transform into a cute Mega Man and Chun Li can Transform into Jill Valentine. |
