HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA Seriously... I fucking lol'd for a minute straight Gakuroth....fuckin goddamn... Its so true.. Yes the main " villain " behind the scenes is the true progenitor of the " Jenova " virus Genesis...who is modeled after Gackt... Even though that is hilarious to me, and also true, the impact of the finale still makes me cry a bit. Also to continue contribution to this thread, Sad ending of Sh 2 " drowning. Yes I know, multiple endings are a no no in this thread, but what if every ending is dismal and depressing anyways? The " drowning " ending is pretty much as sad as you can get in human relation. |

Silent Hill 2 doesn't have bad endings exclusively. Unless you think the hero recovering from his wife's death is unhappy. |

I believe that Ico takes place at least 500 years after SOTC, so it's pretty doubtful. |

Not to say you're wrong or anything, but pretty much all SH 2's endings are idioms to self-destruction of his own unstable psyche. Its pretty dismal no matter which way you look at it. I mean how would you feel if you realized the pyramid head manifestation you saw in front of you was really just your dark, twisted sexual repression? And the drowning ending *is* sad, and fucked. When you realize that you wife being alive was just your mind playing tricks on you and it was all for naught, climaxing in the drowning of your very essence... yeah thats pretty unhappy. And to contribute again, the ending to WoW is sad.. Because there is no ending, people just keep throwing their life away in it. /spoilers. |

There's at least one ending where he survives his ordeal in Silent Hill and is better off because he's not obsessed with his dead wife anymore. That was the whole point of the story: getting over his guilt. It doesn't matter what Pyramid Head represented -- he still kicked its ass. He let whatzername go. He stopped hating himself. He beat Silent Hill at its own game. He won. Happy ending. On the flip side, awesome perspective on WoW. That totally qualifies. :rollin |

lol I don't think I ever got the happy ending. With a game plot as dismal as SH 2 I think I did bad on purpose to get the unfortunate ending. Another game with an unhappy ending: Final Fantasy 10. Ok now in a literal sense the ending is on the fence. Tidus gets suddenly pulled back to his own time where he is reunited with his loved ones, but at the same time he is ripped away from his friends and his love interest. But I'm not talking about that bullshit. FFX has an unhappy ending because after it was over, it spawned this: Posted Image |

I think SH2 is one of the best in the series and sometimes an unhappy ending is good, I mean the game isn't exactly rainbows and ponies... |

Now, that's really a sad ending. Also, about what was said about WoW, that's one of the 3 reasons I refuse to play it. No ending, no payoff. (The other 2 are it's too fucking expensive and that I've grown sick of hearing praises being sung about it.) |

Well, actually. There is a non-sad ending for SH2. It's more of a "what the fuck?" ending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUDcSeUvkOw |

YES. You, sir, win some kind of Internet. I mentioned in another thread that FFX was my cutoff from most of the rest of the FF series due to this... fetid abomination. This reminds me of Flashback, another game that ends on a somewhat somber note as... SPOILER END SPOILER ... and, the ending becomes even unhappier due to the game's fucking awful sequel, Fade to Black. I believe it was by different developers, but it still sucked badly nonetheless. |

And that reminded me of "Out of this World" / "Another World", which ends quite openly although the main character is still trapped, and then in a sequel not endorsed by the creator, "Heart of the Alien" where you play as his alien pal...

Not quite. Fade to Black is the sequel to Flashback. Flashback, while not technically related to Another World/Out of this World, is made by the same developers and could be considered a spiritual sequel. FtB has nothing direct to do with AW, though. |

Did everyone actually have to quote the FFX-2 cover's image? I hate having to scroll through it 4 times to get to the bottom :lol |

Next time someone quotes the original post, I'll yank the cover image like I did just now. I can do it. I have the technology. |

Ico is actually the descendant of the main character from TSOC. |

There is one game I neglected to mention, until now. Spawn-Armageddon (PS2) Malebolgia presents Al "Spawn" Simmons with a chance for his life to be restored, so he can return to his widow, Wanda, on the condition that the Space Station never fires another shot, again. Given the opportunity to live again, Spawn decides to destroy the Angels' Space Station. Though successful in destroying the Space Station, despite his best efforts, Spawn failed to stop the Space Station from unleashing a shot on the planet, and thus was denied his wish. |
