1992-2009
Time of death: 11:31 AM, EST

Over the years, it was there when I needed it. A present from Mom and Dad, given to me the day I graduated from high school in 1992. It lived through many sweltering Florida summers and numerous trips around the country.

I first noticed the signs of its impending death many, many years ago, but did not know what they signified. As time went by, the symptoms grew worse. Odd failures during some games. Unexplained phenomena in others. It still functions, but not in the way it was intended. None of the games designed for it load past the initial copyright screen, and some don't even get that far.

I'll always remember it. The good times, the frustrating times, the thrill of playing imports... seventeen years worth of memories.

Rest in peace, my little Super NES.

...

Glad I ordered another one the other day before I realized it was going to die on me. *whew*

...too soon?

Wow, that really makes me appreciate mine.

I gotta spend some time with it now!

Hell, I've been focusing so much on NES, I've practically forgotten all about it.

DAMMIT. :(

... this reminds me I should probably replace my DC at some point. I remember last time I played it, it skipped the fucking music on Soul Calibur. I haven't poked it since.

You have my sympathies. Losing a beloved game system is always a sad time.

Four years ago, my first PlayStation 2 had also suffered a similar fate. It was on its last legs, refusing to play any disc, no matter how clean. Then, Dr. Gamevorkian, AKA me, decided to operate on it, using a guide I found online. I thought it would work, but I fucked up one minor thing, and, long story short, it ended up flatlining. I pulled the dustrag over it for the last time, and neighbors could have sworn they heard Taps being played that night.

Two months passed, then when I had enough money, I bought a healthier slim model.

Lost my NES back in 2001.... crapped out, had a brief ceremony at the dumpster.

Finally thinking about replacing it now.

My new SNES arrived today. It works just fine, the girls are playing TMNT IV: Turtles in Time on it right now.

But what to do with my original? I just can't chuck it in a dumpster. It's been through so much with me.

I think I'll hold onto it, in the event it can ever be repaired.

Oh Gods of Gaming we pray to keep safe and working our games systems. May they bestow upon us many sleepless nights and unending hours of enjoyment. Lead us not into the sunlight and deliver us from the red ring of death. May our scores be high and our lives plentiful. We offer as a sacrifice a stack of quarters so that we may never forget our roots in gaming. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.

Amen
