A city built into the branches of the forest which spans the entire island. Citizens travel between the tree-houses using thick wooden bridges and simple elevators. Treegap is the only settlement on the island. The buildings, spacious wooden cottages and round huts built like treehouses into the forest canopy, are connected to each other by bridges of varying sizes and strengths. Bridges connecting houses are slender, comparatively weak rope bridges, since they're built by inhabitants of the island rather than the island administration. The bridges around shops and other public buildings are heavy, sturdy bridges reinforced with steel. All buildings rest on a thick wood platform hammered directly into the tree. The forest floor is taken up by the port and inns reserved just for the pirates and other sailors who pass through. The lowest level buildings of Treegap are old houses, inhabited mostly by the poor. As one rises through the city, the old houses gradually become newer and richer, turning eventually into shops and boutiques, and finally into the city hall, library, and other administrative buildings. Far inland, past the inns on the forest floor, there are some abandoned buildings that used to be owned by a powerful lumber company. After a tragic accident involving its employees, the company vacated the island, leaving behind some of its workers. |
