![]() A Letter from the Capitalis de Societate of The United Defenders League, This week, during the slower part, I was focused on foreign affairs – expanding The United Defenders League’s base of embassies to new and exciting frontiers (*tips his hat in the general direction of Panopticon, Normandy, World Alliance and International Western Union*). I was then abruptly reminded why The United Defenders League had never applied for an embassy with The New Inquisition…
Oh yeah… the war thingy-doo about the do-da-doo Concosia thingy, yeah right. Nonetheless, in recognition of the fact that February was one of the most intense naps in the history of invasion history, The United Defenders League awarded Raiderdom with the Chief’s Award “for their month-long disappearance which has kept NationStates safer than ever before”. Other Monthly Awards included Democratic Socialist Alliance’s New Andureo nabbing the coveted “Newcomer Award”, Ajzland And Birolika sharing the ever-so lovely Liberator Award and finally, Hodori continuing his complete domination of the Defender of the Month Award. However...the nap is over. It’s been a relatively modest but noticeably more upbeat presence on the battlefront, at least more so than the sleep-fests that occurred during February. The Black Riders kicked off the week by proving last update’s gloomy prediction wrong that The Middle East was on the “brink of total destruction” -- apparently that region has a founder who could remember his password …… SURPRISE! Congratulations to The Middle East for overcoming the invader threat. Meanwhile, our main operation this past week was a tight liberation of SPACE against Ainur and the Eurosphere (Europeia, TNI, Kantrias etc.), the final victorious score was 29-27. We’re really happy we could help SPACE out on such tight notice on a quiet Tuesday morning.
Continuing our “Space” theme, we freed “Luna” shortly thereafter in a smaller liberation against The Green Isles, who were backed up by The Black Riders. Participants received the following military ribbons for attending the SPACE and Luna liberation missions: ![]() (From left to right: SPACE, Luna)
Tim is going to hate me for quoting him on that. Heh, I really wish that was true but I’ve got a great crew of people who make the magic happen on the battlefield -- I just try not to cramp their style. Nonetheless, The United Defenders League has also been involved with some smaller but recent military operations in The Library, The Islamic Republic of Iran, Pedestria, Coalition of Christian Communities, Defending Hallow, Koprulu, Iraq, and Singapura. I’m glad that the Greenwood Band was able to help these communities and it’s good to see the merrymen being regularly deployed again.
I dunno, Carta, that all seems kind of oppressive to me *snickers*. But you know what seems really oppressive? Carta returning to The United Defenders League! The former Chief Lieutenant returned to The United Defenders League this week, riding a spotted multi-coloured cabbage-breathing camel as his triumphant return was greeted with warm praise and salutations, and then there was…
… Campinia, Belgian Defender Extraordinaire (a shared title between Lt. Ravania and Riemstagrad). It’s not every day that two amazing people come back to join the team. We’re very excited to have Carta and Campinia return. Frankly, Campinia and Carta are family and we’ve missed them very much. As for other new members, this week we’ve also welcomed NS Mentor and roleplayer superstar, United Gordontopia to our ranks, as well as Finjaldn, Schmiegelland, New Sideburn, Aardenland, Schultaria Prime and Kialga, founder of International Western Union. I can’t wait to see what these new members will accomplish during their time with us and I wish them the best! United Gordontopia has already received the title of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) for his submission to The Naivetry Reference Library, The Great Global Economics and Trade Survey. United Gordontopia is the first player to receive this title from the Library since the program began in February. Good work, United Gordontopia! Meanwhile, Lieutenant Solm added an entirely new function to The Gameplay Alignment Test. Several people wanted to see the sheer volume or frequency of respondents’ scores, so to allow this dimension of density, Solm has added a “heatmap” option which shows the density of the collected data. Awesome stuff, Solm! Also, if you look carefully on The Gameplay Alignment Test’s celebrity compass you’ll spot Frak on there now. Sadly he did not register as a cosmopolitan. Tis a shame really. Finally, we’ll be having Movie Night on March 16th 2013 at 8 PM. I figure we’ll continue our “space” theme with Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s high time that Lieutenant Earth finally watches it. Cue a repetitive but relevant emoticon. ![]() I leave you now with the Moment of Zen, tootles!

![]() A Letter from the Capitalis de Societate of The United Defenders League, Hello everyone! Or in true Bazalonian fashion: *stabby stab stab*.
As I’m sure many of you have heard, there was an incident during last week where one of our Lieutenants reportedly leaked a thread (connected to the invasion of Warhammer 40000) to individuals in The United Defenders League – the disclosure of the thread was rash and disreputable on this officer’s part. During the crisis, punishments, some permanent and some temporary were dished out to members of The United Defenders League who read or were aware of the leaked thread. In the event that members could not be proven to have been unaware of the threads (they had no alibi), members were suspended of duties anyway to ensure that all guilty parties received their due. In many ways, the people punished the most with these suspensions were the people who had to take on the duties of the missing lieutenants and superior officers. Halving our staff for a week (and then some of the remaining officers attending Spring Break on top of that), left the organization, as a whole, majorly understaffed. So I’d just like to thank all of the senior staff who led The United Defenders League during the past week. Also: thank you, Lieutenant Earth, for serving as the “UDL Standing Leadership”; I’m so sorry that Lieutenant Earth got saddled with my job for a week because I know it’s one of the toughest positions in NationStates and it’s even harder during crises – I thought she did a marvellous job of organizing the inquiry of the event and otherwise leading the organization during this week. Nonetheless, with that disarray and staff shortage, The United Defenders League sadly wasn’t able to free Warhammer 40000 from The Black Hawks – that was probably the greatest punishment that could have been levied against a defender and I think myself and the other Lieutenants were affected by that greatly. However, we gave it a good shot – not many organizations can organize and run four solid operations back-to-back every twelve hours with twenty+ soldiers.
Our big mission of the past few weeks was a liberation of The Islamic Republic of Iran against the National Socialist League – an overwhelming 26-20 victory. You can read more about that mission and an official warning in regards to escalation in a recent article by The Sherwood Post. Also, on March 17, The United Defenders League lead defenderdom into battle against The Black Riders during a minor update and defeated The Black Riders soundly – defenderdom was responsible for protecting more than 70% of The Black Riders’ targeted victims. Additionally, The Greenwood Band also liberated Avalon from its Kantrian (Kantrian not Kantian, nowhere neeear Kantian -- goddahm spellcheck!) overlords. Excellent job guys. Below is the military ribbon for The Islamic Republic of Iran and Avalon liberations and the medal awarded for the merit shown during those remarkable defences on March 17. The Greenwood Band also contributed to the liberations of Middle Earth, Gensokyo, Samsung, Death Star and The Armed Coalition, the latter against The West Pacific Armed Forces. There were also some liberations, defences and just general skirmishes through the week that we didn’t record. The battlefield has been steadily getting more active as we approach April. During the past week, our Defender “Assistant”, FriarTuck has been offline, so Lieutenant Johz (bless him), went out of his way to code us a substitute assistant. I would just like to express my glee that said “bot” is K-9’s older brother, K-8 *barks*. ![]()
In administrative news, The United Defenders League’s officers have voted in favor of ascending St. Georgie (Mad Jack) to the Hall of Honour – although a current member, he was (mistakenly) not moved to the Hall of Honour during his past departure from The United Defenders League. Furthermore, The Greenwood Band is very happy to announce that The East Pacific has recently ratified “An Act of Friendship, Development and Mutual Respect for Sovereignty between The East Pacific and The United Defenders League”. The treaty is a strong legislative icebreaker for a bright future for our diplomatic relationship; the treaty outlines The United Defenders League’s development program with The East Pacific, in addition to The East Pacific recognizing that they "sympathize with The United Defenders League's noble cause of securing these freedoms abroad across NationStates" and The United Defenders League praising The East Pacific's stability, reasonableness and maturity. Hileville’s statement on the Treaty goes into more depth on this subject. We’re currently in the early stages of getting the development program set up, but in a future update I’ll discuss what’s going on with that program as we move forward. As for new members; during the past few weeks we’ve welcomed Doughertania, Reddogkeno101, Greymlan, Kromar, Swith Witherward, Owl Cities, Nazi Flower Power, Thafoo, Schwabenreich, Bokeryville and our most recent, but definitely not least, Charax. I’ve seen most of this crew already actively on the field and enjoying their time – that’s absolutely wonderful to see! Moreover, Congratulations to Charax and United Gordonopia on passing their Defender Exams and meeting the requirements of their new appointment. It’s lovely to see such dedication from our newer members. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Cormac Stark and Cromarty back to The United Defenders League – Cormac was a former Lieutenant and the first member to receive our coveted “Newcomer of the Month” award; Cromarty was also a former Lieutenant and is currently the Pharaoh of Osiris.
As for some final notes. I continually get asked “What’s UDL’s position on The West Pacific”; as you may or may not know, The West Pacific’s government has been couped recently. We are neutral on the coup – no troops have been order to support either side and it is unlikely that troops will be called to support either side. If you would like to read up on The United Defenders League’s policy on feeder coups, feel free to review our Rogue Delegacies and Administrations Policy. I hope everyone has a Happy April Fools (the –best– day of the year for NationStaters). As for this “Regions will Fall” nonsense – don’t panic! The Greenwood Band is prepared for (almost) anything. Here’s your Moment of Zen.

![]() New Chiefs for the United Defenders League! Firstly, I'd like to apologize for anyone that thought that the UDL finally elected a Chief of the Band. You are wrong, and you should feel wrong. However, The United Defenders League has seen quite a bit of new Departments being re-opened with some new faces heading them! Hopefully these new faces will be able to bring the Administration of the UDL to a bright and shiny future, that the prolonged Conclave has made seem like a distant thing! Chief of Culture For the Chief of Culture position, we have Luna! Luna is also known in NS as either Luna Dancing or as Flowering Staplers, so you've probably seen her around. Luna will now be making a new appearance in the Administrative Team, as our bubbly, friendly, and overall awesome Chief of Culture! Basically, her job will be to keep doing what she's already doing. Luna's friendly presence on IRC, awesome blog posts (nsmoments.tumblr.com), and her ability to materialize delicious baked goods for all the hungry little Merryfolk have made her the optimal Candidate for the job. We hope she's as excited to continue being awesome, as we are to have her as our Chief of Culture ![]() Chief of Intelligence Taking the Chief of Intelligence spot, while also coming back from the dead.. It's a bird! It's a plane! No! It's Campinia! Coming back out of the Boneyard a bit ago, Campinia has shown the UDL that he's certainly got what it takes to kick Raider butt; storming through Minor Update as if he was never gone. Now he's stepping up to the Chief's Plate to take control of the Department of Intelligence. Although exactly what this Department does is still unclear, reports state that between being very mysterious and staring very seriously at documents the Department of Intelligence has almost recovered the complete recipe to The Cuckoo's Egg's Rum. Best of luck to Chief Campinia in his new position! Chief of Foreign Affairs For the Chief of Foreign Affairs position, formerly known as Chief Herald, is Tim! Also known as Tim-Opolis, this handsome, professional, charismatic, and extremely modest individual is also really tired of writing in third person and is therefore switching to first person. Honestly, I'm really excited to be holding the position of the United Defenders League's Chief of Foreign Affairs. Although the UDL's Foreign Affairs hasn't exactly been the best in the past, I certainly hope to fix that. I'm probably getting into something way over my head, but that pretty much sums up my entire NS career so why the hell wouldn't I take this? Anyways, I'm pretty damn excited about this and ready to get started!Captain (Chief of Military Affairs) The Chief of Military Affairs will be heading the newly created Department of Military Affairs. After much discussion, the UDL Leadership couldn't think of anyone better for this position than Ravania. As one of the UDL's best updaters, Ravania has been running, motivating, and pushing the Minor Update team ever since he painfully pulled up those green tights and joined the Greenwood Band. As an experienced Liberator, Detagger, Triggerman, and all around Defender, Ravania would be in charge of organizing various military efforts within the UDL. Since Ravania is still demoted from Lieutenant, following the events of The North Pacific, we believe that this is the perfect spot for him to keep on saving Founderless regions from all those evil menaces like Jakker, Mall, Spartz, and Mr.Fluffles. The Administration wishes the best of luck to Captain Ravania! Let's get those regions liberated from the [insert raider or synonymous term here]! Update Heads After a bunch of confusion at Update, the final position that is being created is the Update Head. Well, two Update Heads actually. Serving as Head of Minor Update, meaning that he is the leading UDL officer at the update, is Ravania! For Ravania, this is doing nothing but putting a position that he has held since he joined the UDL onto paper. The Administration wishes the best of luck to him, and all of the Minor Update crew! As Major Update Head, should he accept it, is Lieutenant Sovreignry! Sovreignry has been the Pacific Time badass who has run Major Update while the rest of the Major Update squad have been committing seppuku from the amount of exams that we've had. Hopefully Lt. Sov will accept the position, as he's basically the best Candidate for it mkay? Although some of the noobies might complain that he's 'too serious' all I see is that he gets stuff done. Best of luck to Sovreignry in his new position, should he accept it. Let's go kick some raider butt! Want more changes to the Leadership? Excited to hear more Defender Propaganda? Placing bets on who will end up being the Chief of Printing? Don't worry, we'll get the other Departments (like those empty corridors of Recruiting and Orientation) sorted out soon! Stay tuned! Conclave Update! That's right folks! We're actually providing an exclusive look into the Conclave. After months of Media Silence, we're coming to bring you this very important Update: We still have not elected a Chief of the Band. However, our Department of Intelligence has come to the Conclusion that there is no possible way that The Vatican somehow gets this done without cheat codes. Current research has shows that ' > ^ v < < A B >' has been a widely used cheat code within the Conclave, in an attempt to sway voting one way or another. However, the current standings as of now seem to show Krulltopia leading the pack, with Jakker and Francos Spain in a close second. More Details to Follow soon. Stay Tuned! Change is Coming O____O The ominous header speaks truth! Change will be coming to the United Defenders League's Ranks system. However, as the Department of Printing seems to have lost all of the Propaganda associated with this, this is going to be left at a cliffhanger until the changes are made! However, you can all expect a re-working of the Ranks. Chief Solm has been seen calling it an Operating System Upgrade, of sorts. To put this into Technological Speak, we're taking our Windows ME and replacing it with either Windows 7 or OS X Mountain Lion. Pick your poison. As well as this, we'll be upgrading our RAM, running a few virus scans, and bumping the graphics card a few notches! Whoever figures out what each of those actually stands for get a delicious pasty, made by Chief of Culture Luna Dancing ^.^ ]Thanks For Reading! ![]() Tim Lockley-Stark UDL Chief of Foreign Affairs |

![]() United Defenders League - General Propaganda - June 10th 2013 Wait wait what? An update post not by some incarnation of Unibot!? No Unibot II or III or IV!? What on earth has happened?! Well, for those of you who have been residing in some backwater for the past three month, Unibot is off enjoying his life and you're stuck with...Solm. Rumours have floated around that Solm may actually be the reincarnation of Goobergunchia, but so far we have found no proof of this. Nonetheless, the United Defenders League has survived the departure of our glorious founder and hopes to be back on the field and beating up raiderscum, using our absolute moral authority , until the end of [violet].Now, you might be wondering why you haven't been getting doused with glorious UDL propaganda since before Unibot poofed. Some people might claim that it's because we've been too busy infiltrating feeders, and other treacherous stuff like that. As cool as that might be, those people are incorrect. The actual reason is because we've been electing a new Unibo *cough* Chief of the Band and Solm did not think his tenure, as Interim Chief, would last this long! But, now it has become obvious that this Conclave thing will continue on until Max Barry holds the next Maxchat. For those of you who do not know, we have modeled our election system after the Papal Conclave. We have been voting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and updating the nation of [nation]Smoke[/nation] after each update with either black or white smoke. Obviously, since we haven't elected a new Pope yet, it's been black.. The early votes were hotly contested, but as the second week of voting started, frontrunners emerged. Leading the pack was Evil Wolf! His platform consisted of some UDLer posting, "EVIL WOLF IS EBIL. VOTE FOR HIM!" But, then some people went, "Wait a minute here, he smells!" And then the collective UDL put its noses out and smelled Evil Wolf. He did indeed... smell. Since the second week his votes have left him second to last, with Durkadurkiranistan holding last.. As Evil Wolf's lead dwindled, the next frontrunner emerged: Spartzerium! For those who aren't familiar with Spartz, he was the original UDL Chief Lieutenant and then "left" to go join TBH and has raided ever since. Since Unibot's departure, the classified intel department of the UDL was declassified which consisted of a single document that said, "We have no spies. So I decided to switch to get some intel for us. ~ Spartz" Upon the reveal of this document, tens of UDLers swarmed the Conclave polls and voted for Spartz. However, even this was not enough to get 75% of the conclave to vote for him. Spartz has been falling from the lead since then, with certain candidates such as Halcones and the ghost of Francos Spain suddenly surging ahead in the polls. It's less of a Papal Conclave and more of a Horse Race, ladies and Gentlemen! Another nomination suggested the UDL just be absorbed back into the FRA. The latter has received a good amount of support, but not Spartz levels. Anyways, the Conclave has been going on for months now and I felt that the world needed an update from the UDL's interim Chief of the Band (that's Solm!) so they could get their dose of UDL news and huggles. Who doesn't love a good huggle? Nobody, that's right! Everyone loves a good huggle! *huggles* Well, except those raiderscum. Apparently huggles are verboten there. So what has the UDL been up to in these past few months on the battlefield? Well, We've detagged over 115 regions, defended countless others, sometimes defending up to 4 out of every 5 raider attempts! One of our largest defenses occurred just a week ago![region]Discordia[/region], where a combined defender force of the UDL, TITO, FRA, and SDF was able to boost the native to 28 endos, while the raider peaked at a mere 17. We awarded our members with this beautiful medal upon the successful completion of the Discordia mission. ![]() We have also been incredibly busy liberating! The South Pacific was a big shock to all of us, but the UDL did its best to contribute to its liberation effort, supplying sleepers and updaters to the effort. Shortly after TSP was freed, we liberated [region]Furrry Federation[/region] with FRA, TITO, and the SDF. We were also busy in the torpedojaggers and natan region annexation (among the more notable regions from our operations). Our huge thanks goes out to the FRA, TITO, and the SDF as their assistance has been critical in the success of the majority of our operations. We work together with the FRA every update, and their assistance is vital to our success and the cooperation between the UDL and the FRA has sent countless raiders off to the Rejected Realms. Furthermore with the assistance of TITO, the SDF, and others, we have been able to succeed with huge defender forces in operations, such as Discordia. To the FRA, TITO, and the SDF, our thanks goes out to you, and we look forward to continuing our cooperation with all of you! Perhaps whatever term we've been using for Defenders working together isn't so dead afterall ![]() In terms of the UDL, we have been quite busy lately. Since the conclave has gone on so long, we have decided to begin our plans for change under the interim administration while we wait for a permanent Chief. Just recently, we have appointed several new Chiefs. Luna (Flowering Staplers) was appointed to Chief of Culture, and will hopefully be making cookies for the rest of the Leadership. Campinia was promoted to Chief of Intelligence. We're not sure what he's going to be doing there, as it's classified, but it's probably more than the last Chief did! Tim was appointed to Chief of Foreign Affairs, quite the difficult task, but we're sure he'll do exemplary. Also, Ravania was promoted to Captain, a new military position to coordinate and orchestrate our military efforts, akin to a Chief of Military Affairs. We have also promoted Sovreignry and Ravania to Update Heads! We hope these changes will help bring the UDL into even higher heights, improving our coordination and update skills. Congratulations to all of the new appointments, and we wish them best of luck in their endeavors! We are also revamping our Orientation and Recruiting departments, and will have updates about those soon. Also, we've even gained some new Merrymen to join us on the field! Last but not least, change is definitely coming to the concepts behind Militia, Merryman, and Senior Merryman. Some may be big, some may be small, and some might just piss people off, but they'll be coming and hopefully they'll be successful. Although we all know you want to know more, we're going to take one out of the River Song playbook and respond with " spoilers "Hopefully we will get a new Chief of the Band soon, as basically everyone is tired of having to pick up Solm's soda cans for him. It's been a busy few months, and hopefully the next few months will be even busier. And lastly, your wonderful moment of zen, hand-picked as a departing gift from Unibot:
That's all Folks, Solm, Chief of the Band Tim Locksley-Stark Chief of Foreign Affairs |

A good day to all! First of all a big 'thank you' to the conclave members who managed to give me a 75% lead in 4 voting rounds. Another record to put in my tiny notebook. I must say I didn't expect for the conclave to end so soon after our last one. So excuse me if I haven't prepared a lengthy speech. People who know me, know I'm not a man of words but of actions, cause actions speak louder than words. So if anyone is wondering what will become of UDL, don't worry, we'll be active. To my predecessors, all credit, without you guys UDL wouldn't be the great band of merrymen it has always been. Mahaj, you did well, kept us active and kept bad press from our woods. Solmy, everything is fine, brother. You were and are my greatest supporter and I know you smile as you read this. Unibot, my chief, I often thought of you as a partizan, a revolutionary, a wild one. You shouted, I salved, you had big plans, I tried to realise a fraction of them. Your zeal is inimitable, but your organisation is in safe hands with me. To my staff, be ready, we'll try to lift defending to a new level. I'm not going to announce changes at this point, cause I haven't promised anyone anything. I'll start working on that tomorrow, with you, not above you. To my merrymen, never yield, never surrender, united we stand! To our friends in other defender organisations and befriended regions. I reach out to work with all of you like we have in the past, with respect for eachother's individuality and working to reach that common goal of a safe NationStates for all nations and regions. To our opponents, NUTS! Ravania Chief of the Band |
