I have a problem with the conduct of Moderation.
On Oct. 13 there was a dispute on whether discussion of "NS Marriages" was considered related to Gameplay enough to be discussed in the Gameplay subforum. Gameplay traditions include players 'marrying each other'; the superficial similarity between this tradition and the Forum Seven community's tradition suggested to the moderators that all discussion of NS Marriages should be moved to Forum Seven.
Two threads on the discussion were locked before discussion could emerge [1] [2], what had emerged was a lot of controversy for the decision.
An Important Ruling Was Made:
(1) The Gameplay Community is Marginalized, No Specific Category Actually Belongs For Discussion Amongst The Gameplay Community, Only Discussion Deemed By Moderation To Be Gameplay-Related.

Sedgistan: Milograd is correct there, and I've moved at least one 'marriage' thread between gameplayers to Forum 7 in the past. The fact that it's often gameplayers involved does not mean that what they are doing is gameplay. A wedding is roleplay, and as it's not nation-based, the appropriate place to hold them/discuss them is Forum 7. Sedgistan: The Gameplay forum is for discussion of gameplay happenings, not of anything and everything that gameplayers do in NS. It's always been a non-roleplay forum, but just in case people forget that, it's mentioned in the sticky, and the forum description now explicitly says "Not a roleplaying forum."
I complained that by making this ruling in "Forum Seven" it was unlikely that gameplayers would even read this ruling [3] and furthermore by ruling in Forum Seven, the ruling would eventually be lost due to Forum Seven's cut-off [4]. Others agreed the rulings should have been made in the Gameplay subforum [5]. Moderation disagreed and said that a ruling by Crazygirl (which ruled something different) would suffice for reference [6]; even though Sedgistan's ruling admitted that Moderation differentiated between Gameplay and what the Gameplay community does.. Crazygirl's ruling bluntly identifies X as gameplay and Y as roleplay, carefully not mentioning that the Gameplay community deviates from her false dichotomy.
Because there are a lot of semi-roleplay aspects to the Gameplay community (e.g., NS marriages, divorces, coronations and basically the entire category of gameplay monarchies, NS gameplay services like Florists and Restaurant regions, characterization of gameplay identities and philosophies), this new ruling draws the line in the sand and says the Gameplay community is split across the forum, it should use the "Gameplay" subforum for any discussion connected to the mechanics of the game and any community discussion that doesn't fit within this narrow category is thrown into "Forum Seven". Thus the community of Gameplay actually does not have a subforum entitled to its discussion, we're a community without a home... as one Forum Sevener notes their community is independent from Gameplay and thus this decision is a badge of inferiority to both the Gameplay and the Forum Seven communities having ruled Forum Seven is the dustbin for discussion deemed to be ill-suited for the Gameplay subforum [7].
I was outraged this controversial ruling could be made without any actual discussion with the Gameplay community.

Unibot: When a community is ruled against by Moderation, perhaps they should have more say in the matter than two threads that were locked before they could progress and a reply that was probably mulled over by half a dozen people (mostly non-gameplayers) in a secret channel where the arguments presented aren't made public nor debatable. I thought Moderation said it had learnt things about policy from the Rule IV debate... yet these recent policies are straight from that school of thought. How can decisions be the right one if they are unchallengeable?
At this point I had been told to direct all criticism of rulings to the Moderation subforum instead of the Gameplay subforum (thereby reducing how many Gameplayers may actually read this controversial ruling) [8], I had already between told the Moderation inquiry had been "sufficiently answered" thus implying further threads in Moderation would be locked [9].
The aforementioned post in Gameplay about the subject was used as justification to ban me for one day [10].
I am arguing that when a decision like this affects a community perhaps that community should be granted a generous opportunity to discuss with moderation why these traditions deserve accommodation for Moderation, but threads were locked very quickly; discourse on the matter is not permitted via a Catch-22, discussion about this matter in Gameplay is not allowed since it would be more properly suited in Moderation, discussion about this matter in Moderation would not be allowed since this matter has been "sufficiently answered", discussion about this matter in a Getting Help Request is impossible since the system is simply.. one makes their private appeal and moderation replies back with "Yes" or "No".
I entered #themodcave IRC Channel to discuss this:

<Unibot> I was banned for a Catch-22... <Unibot> If I posted in Moderation.. I was locked. <Unibot> If I posted in SC, I was told to post in Moderation. <Unibot> How is this fair? <@sedgistan> You were told not to threadjack a thread in Gameplay. The ruling was made & explained in Moderation, and was locked when you continued to protest. If you wish to appeal the decision, submit a Getting Help Request. <Unibot> A ruling which will tell me "no". <Unibot> With no argument presented. <@sedgistan> This is not the place to seek out an argument. <Unibot> There is no place to seek out argument. <@sedgistan> This channel is for time sensitive reports only. <Unibot> That is the problem. <@sedgistan> Do you have a time sensitive report to make? <Unibot> Here's my time sensitive report, where is the place to seek out an argument on this matter? <@sedgistan> That is not a time sensitive report. If you do not have a time sensitive report, please leave the channel. You have been instructed on how to appeal your forum ban. <Unibot> Will do. <Unibot> Thank you.
I was also in the middle of posting a Technical thread calling for the creation of a subforum for social discussion between the Gameplay community at the suggestion of NERVUN [11], but I lost the draft because I was banned in the middle of posting. I am unsure whether I would be penalized for re-opening this debate in the Technical subforum after my ban expires.
Bearing all of this in mind, I think my banning was utterly unfair, there is no way for the community to actually get what it deserves, a discourse between Moderation and the Gameplay community, on the subject of being marginalized... those who want this discourse to happen are subject to a logical and legal paradox that permits their punishment. If this policy of "No Opportunity For Discourse on Policy" should be maintained, it should be promulgated and those who violate the policy can be punished from then on (something I would not promote but it is fairer than *hiding* the actual reality of NationStates Moderation Policy).
Yours, Unibot

If you wouldn't mind, could you please post the reply you received, Unibot? I'm very interested to see where this heads.
