  • He saw it on TV, the local morning news covering a rally in the heart of the city. It wasn't particularly clear why it was being held in front of the Daily Bugle, the paper had dished out its fair share of anti-mutant op-eds so they obviously weren't protesting that... Maybe it was just the most accessible place, somewhere to get the media's attention.

It as sure as hell had gotten his.

It was just a short drive to the rally from the cramped apartment. There were very few options for mutants in terms of living space, even less when your abilities induced rage by proximity. Living in the rundown neighborhood had its perks, cops eventually stopped showing up, prices fell dramatically, and he had his privacy. But that wasn't enough, Riot had heard about the group of mutants who said humans and mutants could exist together peacefully -- but they didn't know anything. And after Magneto, their song seemed even more implausible. The only way the humans would learn was through force and if they wanted to be violent, Riot could accommodate.

The mutant's old car pulled up to the curb and he stepped out, retrieving a steel baseball bat from the passenger seat and making a beeline for the protesters. Riot, as his chosen name probably implied, had a knack for inciting violence. Simply standing near the mutant was enough to trigger a dramatic increase in aggression with the effect multiplying after long exposure, but it was physical contact that took the cake. Touching someone was the most potent form of inducing rage and it spread like a virus as one enraged person touched another...

With his free hand, Riot roughly shoved a man holding a sign from behind. The man stumbled forward, nearly parting the crowd and dropping to all fours under the mutant's strength. He stood up with a venomous glare, demanding who had pushed him and Riot simply shrugged pointing at another sign-wielding protester. Without a second thought, the man lunged, laying out the other man. The virus spread quickly amidst the shoving and restraining that took place as others tried to quell the violence. With a swift blow from his bat, Riot cracked a man along the side of his head and from there, all hell broke loose...

  • Notes: James Francis is Riot, a mutant with the ability to increase the aggression and hostility of those around him through proximity and touch. If someone is "tagged" by contact, they also spread the hostility through contact. So in this scenario, as you could imagine, the violence spreads through the rally like a wildfire. Civilians beating each other to death and they probably aren't gonna be too receptive once you show up. NPC the protesters, remember if you're a "Hero" you probably shouldn't be killing them. I'll play Riot.

Dark Seraphim
Discordantentity for those who need to know...
The news as she watched it from her lab was turning ugly, and Nicole could not avoid this end result. She had to step in and stop this travesty. Turning to her assistant who was calibrating some machinery she cleared her throat, and then shook her head. "I need to do something for a bit, when the scans are finished please run them again to be sure. I won't be long, want a coffee or something?" The young man looked up and replied with a yes, as he went backto work and was rather diligently helping her on the theoretical model of her sattelite laser. However after she changed into her outfit she was out the window and calling this one in to Fury so he knew it was handled. Though she informed him her alias would be making an apperance so that the world knew her as it beforehand, she had no idea why but this was good PR for Dark Seraphim.

Arriving just as the riot was picking up she hijacked the speakers and made her presence known to Tiot who she had to indentify first before she attacked the wrong people. She could not kill andshe had to use non lethal attacks, no blade and rubber bullets which she had loaded for this. "Show yourself mutant and leave these people alone, to answer hatred with hatred is not the way... This is your only war..." She was jumped by two people who were enraged as she had to fight off a third and sent them staggering back into wall with a palm strike to thesolar plexus, throwingthe other two off so they did not land with that forceful an impact she took a defensive stance as well as drew her pistol and prepared herselfto fight anyonewho atatcked her with her fists or rubber bullets.

Bolt

"Maybe I should have bought a tour book," Chris said, feeling incredibly foolish. His college had offered a trip to New York City, and needing a rush of excitement Chris had gone on it. So far all he had managed to do was get separated from the other students and get lost. They were suppose to be meeting up at a museum, but Chris had clearly gone the wrong way.

He took another turn, finding himself facing a large crowd. The crowd was too loud to clearly understand what was being shouted, but he realized that the situation was turning sour quickly. Rather than going on Chris turned to cross the street. Being lost in New York City was bad enough. If he didn't find his way to the museum in time he would end up missing the bus back to his school and would have to beg a favor from a buddy. No way was he going to let his parents know if that happened.

Between the increasingly agitated crowd and the normal foot traffic a tourist like Chris, who was staring up at the height of the buildings around him, didn't stand a chance. His body was bumped and moved about until he found himself in the angry crowd. There wasn't much elbow room and the noise was starting to give Chris a migraine. The only way to get away was to go straight through the mess and come out the other side it seemed. A spark arched from Chris's fingers to the shoulder of a rioter as Chris stumbled his way around. Said rioter turned and punched the person beside them, starting a small cluster of fist fights surrounding the teen. With the grace of a fish out of water Chris managed to trip over his own feet, seeing an elbow headed towards his head. Instinctively he threw his hands up to keep himself safe.

There was a brilliant flash of light, and the smell of ozone, and the person who's elbow was so close to nailing Chris now was twitching. "What just happened?" Chris asked, his hair settling back down into place. The twitching person didn't answer, nor did the people who had been momentarily blinded by the little light show that Chris had just done.

Chelsea was six years old. She'd been shopping alongside her mother (her chest filled up with pride to be "helping") when the chaos had begun. "Mommy!" she cried out, but the din of the roaring crowd was just too much. Chelsea's bottom lip began to tremble, and she sobbed uncontrollably.

The man advanced on her, his chest rising and falling with his deep, seething breaths. He growled, a low guttural sound, almost bestial. "Have you seen my mommy?" the little girl asked, her wet, blue eyes looking up at the man.

He lunged at her.

And was smashed aside by a red, white, and blue blur. His body crumbled to the ground, unconscious, but alive. Captain America caught his trademark shield as it spun back to him. Cap lifted her off the ground, and surveyed the carnage.

"Chelsea!" cried an older woman. She ran up to Cap, who gingerly passed her her daughter.

"I'd say you oughta get out of here, ma'am. I can't guarantee your safety."

"Yes, thank you!"

There were only small skirmishes around this area, Cap noticed with all of the keen sight of a soldier. A few men fought here and there, a woman booted a man in the groin in one scuffle. Cap took a quick triage of the situation, and decided he was best needed at the epicentre of the conflict. The protest that Captain America had come to clandestinely oversee today had turned violent. He bolted toward the human maelstrom.

THWOK, THWOK, THWOK with a manic grin, Riot casually made a bloody mess of the pinned man's exposed face with his fists. After a moment, he stood, surveying the chaos that had quickly engulfed the rally. It was beautiful.

He bent over, picking up his bat from the ground and wordlessly walking towards another crowd. A mounted police officer guided his horse carefully between the fighting people, attempting to restore order. The horse was being jostled as the violence continued to spill across the street and while the officer was distracted trying to steady himself, Riot swung his weapon, catching him across the middle and taking the man out of the saddle. Almost immediately the police officer was swarmed and it didn't take long, amidst the kicks and punches, for the sidearm to make an appearance.

A wild-eyed woman freed the weapon from its holster and lifted it up triumphantly. It was a short-lived victory as another man soundly thumped her across the head with a newly acquired nightstick. There was another furious scramble, finally punctuated by the sound of gunfire. Even in the heightened state of rage, most of the crowd instinctively parted after the shots were fired. In the center, a woman doubled over and collapsed with two gunshot wounds to the chest -- the man brandishing the gun yelled obscenities before directing his attention at the nearest wall of people.

In the street nearby, several rioters overturned a couple parked vehicles, blocking traffic in both directions. As the chaos grew, even people who weren't directly involved in the rally began to take note. The opportunistic of the bunch took the unrest as a signal to smash a store window and begin looting the place. The alarm blared unnoticed while thugs quickly carried out the valuables. Riot, himself, climbed on top of a van that had been swarmed by enraged protesters. He brought his bat down on the room a few times, laughing hysterically. Inside of the van, a terrified reporter team huddled together...

Among the people temporarily blinded by Bolt was another mutant who had been silently observing the rally before the violence broke out. Overtaken by the same rage that gripped the rally, Zero put his powers to use, forming an ice-club and flailing wildly. As his sight slowly started coming back, his attacks became more focused, serving devastating damage to several rioters around him. Effortlessly, he completely encased another person in ice before noticing Chris. Offering a deranged smile, icy spikes grew on the club raised behind him and Zero swung his weapon...

  • Things to consider:
    - Woman bleeding, multiple gunshot wounds. Needs medical attention.
    - Man with gun.
    - Officer down. Needs assistance.
    - Looters taking advantage of the situation in a nearby storefront.
    - Riot attacking innocents in van.
    - Zero is a new mutant recently identified. His powers seem to be ice-related and his natural mean-streak has just been intensified by Riot's abilities. Oh no!

Caleb was sitting at a table outside of a restaurant. In front of him was his date. "So what do you do for a living?" The blond beauty with a physique of model said as she teased him with her soothing voice. "I -- I..." He stuttered. He couldn't tell her the truth. The truth being he's a superhero that saves people on a daily basis. "Well I..." The young hero's phone rang before he could get anything else out. "Sir, there seems to be trouble brewing at the Daily Bugle." A voice over the phone told him in a stern voice. Caleb directed his attentions to the lovely date. "Hold on, I have to take this." As she nodded in agreement Caleb stood up from the table, walking away.

"What's going on, Simon."
Caleb's voice turned from flirtatious to very serious. Simon was a trusted colleague of Dr. Larsen that sometimes help with Caleb's, or should I say Psychix's, acts of justice. "There's a riot in front of the Daily Bugle. There's been reports of violence, shooting, and mutant attacks, so be careful." He informed Caleb. "I've already scent the limo to retrieve you, it has your costume inside." The old man continued. With those words Caleb saw the gleaming vehicle pull up and waited on him. Caleb turned to the woman and started making his excuse. "I've been called up on some important business." He lied as he kissed her on the cheek, grabbed his coat, and left money on the table for the meal plus tip and a little extra for the woman to catch a cab.

A man dressed wearing a black suit, a ear piece, and shades, hopped out the passenger seat and open the door for his boss's son. "Greetings, Sir." He said in a deep but polite tone. "Thank you, William." Caleb replied as he sat in the car. The car pulled off as the bodyguard closed his door. Looking beside him, Caleb spotted his black and red costume neatly folded beside him. After a couple of minutes of changing, Caleb was ready for the fight that took place a couple of blocks away. Psychix pulled his mask over his face followed by his hood. The sun roof opened and the psychic hero drifted out. Psychix could see the Bugle as he ascended into the air. He spotted couple of violent brake outs as he flew over head.

As he flew above the crowed one scene caught his attention. A woman lied on the ground barley breathing, she need medical attention on the double. A guy a couple of yards stood with a gun in hand and a sadistic grin on his face. Psychix extended his arm in the direction the man stood and sent out crimson waves. The man dropped the gun in agony and grabbed his head as if it was about to burst open. Psychix stopped his attack, he didn't want to kill him, and the man dropped to the ground almost lifeless. The hero stayed silent but focused as he used his telekinesis to bring the gun to him then put it in his boot. "Your going to have a massive headache when you wake up." He gloated with a dark humor kind of pitch.

Psychix landed beside the dying woman and knelled. "Everything's going to be okay." He tried to comfort her. She responded with a faint smile that was interrupted by a bloody cough. He placed his hand just inches above her chest, she gradually lifted as Psychix raised his hand. She was about chest level before more angry people came lunging at him. With a single wave or psychic disruption they dropped to the ground.

Psychix levitated himself and the woman to an ambulance truck just a few blocks away. As our "everyday" hero's placed the woman in a gurney, one spoke to praised Psychix. "You saved this woman's life. Any later and we wouldn't have been able to treat her. You're a real hero... er??" The woman didn't know what to call him. "Psychix." The hero said in a serious voice as he flew off back into battle.

Dark Seraphim
Discordantentity for those who need to know...
Seeing Riot jump onto the van and the others fighting to suppress the riot she had to avoid a bat to the head as she heard the gun go off, she was using non lethal rounds and now a cop had just made a terrible mistake. In light of that she pulled a tear gas grenade from her belt, throwing it towards the looters she saw four rioters rushing towards Captain America from the right. Just as they got within striking range she had intercepted and cut them off, unable to reach Riot due to the unruly and violent mob surrounding them. Looting was also happening, but she was going to try to deal with the real violent ones as she could handle more than a few at a time. “Sorry boys but I’ll be taking care of you, now why don’t you calm down.” She then let them get close enough, then produced her blade and cut down the bats three of them held so they were just half of the normal grip. Now facing four punches coming in she ducked low and swept them to the ground, as they were knocked out by having their heads bouncing off of the pavement with some assistance from a punch to the chest. After they went down she stayed alert but addressed her ally, a man not even a month ago who would have been her enemy had they met.

“Time to move it up a step, Captain the target has revealed himself. But the rats still block the way, do you know how rats are dealt with if they cannot be killed.” She said as she loaded a magazine of rounds with a blue band around the plastic head of the bullet. As two more came up to her she fired at them and when the bullets struck the plastic broke and blue gel stuck to their foreheads near the right temple, as they suddenly went down twitching as if they had been hit by a tazer. “Hopefully this should bring them to their senses; there will be no damage just total paralysis until the gel is removed.” This was going to be the first use of a new style of incapacitation round, as she called them shock gel rounds as the gel had a small emitter in it that continually released an electrical current equal to a tazer with enough power to cause paralysis until removed or for half an hour at most. She had three clips of them left and there was so many people, of course once the mutant was captured she would call this one in for a containment unit to capture them safely for quarantine and confinement.

Opening a like she called this one in on an encrypted channel without speaking out loud to make HQ aware that she was on the scene, this way they knew to have one on standby. “This is Agent Nicole Tesla, requesting a containment unit on standby for immediate deployment when this situation is resolved. Subject is a mutant who should be regarded as a high level threat; maximum quarantine protocols once captured should be observed. Live rounds have been fired, permission to use lethal force if necessary.” Now she was going to start clearing a path to the mutant to fight him, she had an advantage in that she was mostly machine so his power would have little effect on her. If anything she also had the fact she was a being of magic now, so she hoped it would help protect her as well. As she did she was fending off attacks and sending people to the ground or into walls unconscious, every time she was finished with someone she made sure they were out cold to keep them from becoming a problem again.

The rioters rushed at him, roaring like madmen. Their groans were scarcely even human, Cap noted. It was if some sort of unnatural force was driving them to revolt. Captain America had seen a few protests in his time, some peaceful, some not, but it was clear to him, at least, that the rage in these protesters wasn't your average, political indignation. No, these weren't rioters. They were reverting to some sort of primal, rage-filled state. Which meant that their behavior, however reprehensible it might be, couldn't be blamed on them. If these folks were doing what they were doing out of their own volition, then Captain America would be the first one volunteering to bash their heads in. But they weren't. Of that, he was certain.

Or at least, he hoped. If men and women could behave like this, were they really worth saving?

Cap shook his head, dispelling the thought from it. No. These people were under some sort of spell or influence. They had to be.

“Time to move it up a step, Captain the target has revealed himself. But the rats still block the way, do you know how rats are dealt with if they cannot be killed.” SHIELD Agent Codename Dark Seraphim ran ahead of him, firing on the protesters. Seraphim and Cap had had their differences in the past, but for now, they were on the same side. Additionally, she had spoken of "the target." Frustrated, Cap decided that Seraphim must have known more about the situation than he.

"Hey!" roared Captain America. "These are innocents!"

"There will be no damage just total paralysis until the gel is removed," replied Seraphim. Cap sighed with relief. Masks were under enough scrutiny these days. The last thing Cap, or SHIELD for that matter, needed was a body count today. A rioter rushed forward from behind them. Cap's keen tactical sense caught the sound of the footsteps. Spinning around, Captain America bashed the rioter in the face with his shield, knocking him to the ground. A quick boot to the temple knocked the rioter out.

Captain America activated his communicator as he dragged the unconscious rioter to a nearby garbage dumpster. He stashed the man there, so that he wouldn't be trampled or worse in the combat. "This is Captain America to HQ. Who are we dealing with here?"

"Heya Cap. It appears to be a mutant, appropriately called 'Riot', causing the violence. Anyone he touches goes into some sort of primal, vicious rage."

Off in the distance, Captain America saw a man swinging a spiked, ice club at someone else. "Any chance Riot has cryokinetic powers as well, HQ?"

Silence, then. "Uh... No, Captain. No, we're sure of that."

"Then we've got more than one mutie here..."

All his life Chris wanted something exciting to happen to him. He never won any big awards or stood out in any way. In kindergarten he got praised for his good napping behavior, which meant that he was great at doing absolutely nothing. To think he wanted his life to have more to it than new magazines in the P&C. Now that he was involved in something big he realized how incredibly stupid that desire had been. Chris didn't want to be staring at a frozen ice club, just something different.

The club came swinging down and Chris flailed as it fell. His coat got pinned to the ground, missing him enough to avoid injury, but he could feel the cold seeping through the fabric. Chris wiggled his way out of the coat, static electricity adding fuel to his own powers. "Back off!" Chris shouted, thrusting his arms out in front of him.

Discordantentity for those who need to know...
”Great so your saying we have two mutants, this day just keeps getting better... HQ we need someone to pick up some victims, try to develop a counter agent to this mutants power.” The captains concerns were valid and she shared them as he realized what she was doing, however she really knew little about the mutant they were facing. She surmised that the mutant’s power was viral and spread through contact after witnessing the news and firsthand seeing it, she might as well share it since it was relevant. ”He seems to affect humans through touch, and they spread it through touch to others. Unless you can defend against an infectious touch I advise caution against engaging him directly, I’ll distract him just avoid hitting me!” She then put her gun away and then leapt from where she stood, coming in from an assisted leap she landed in the top of the van without even making a dent and looked to Riot with her blade readied as she dropped her last flash bang into the crowd neat Captain America to give him an advantage over the mob where he was. She resumed to normal vision mode and stood her ground, he looked tough but she should be able to resist his touch and keep him busy.

”This ends here and now, what your doing won’t help things. Hatred only spawns more hatred, I won’t allow it, I can’t allow the same mistakes I made...” She said as she readied to either attack or defend after withdrawing her blade, she was going to knock him out so he could be contained and not kill him. However she could not insure that, and if it came down to it she would do whatever it took to accomplish the task. To her he was like she used to be, spreading needless suffering and hatred for his own whims or those of another’s. As she looked him in the eye she waited, patiently without moving or flinching one bit. ”Get them restrained and in a secure location, we’ll send pick up asap and have a medical team on standby. The status of the other mutant is unknown; we need more information before we can decide a course of action... If they’re not the enemy leave them alone, if they are then neutralize the threat and detain them for transport.” Came the reply as she merely nodded while keeping her focus on the mutant known as Riot, who was obviously enjoying this and making a generally dangerous nuisance for the public safety. ”Understood, Seraphim out.”
