Keiran was angry. He was also sad, hurt, frustrated, and jealous, but more than anything else, Keiran was angry. The problem with this particular brand of anger, however, was that the tall falcon-morph couldn't bring himself to destroy anything in order to release the emotion. No, this anger simmered just below the surface, not acidic enough to slowly burn through its container and not virulent enough to explode into violence. It simply stayed, eating away his sanity as he watched the love of his life steadfastly ignoring him. At first, Keiran had been insensate. He had lain in his room for days, never even opening the curtains surrounding the canopied bed. When Chomanik was in class, he forced himself to turn from human form to falcon and back hundreds of times in a row until he was too exhausted and in far too much agony to stay conscious. Eventually, between his roommate and the teachers, he had been forced out of his room. That, of course, led to an exhaustive three days of recovery in the Infirmary from severe dehydration and starvation. Despite all of this, HE had never visited. Not once. Not even when Keiran was asleep. That hurt more than anything else. Today was the first day since The Incident that Keiran had attended classes, though he didn't remember anything that had been said. After all this time, he needed to get out, to remove himself from the world of humans and find nature. It was a rare impulse, but one that served him well when it came along. Walking to a tree on the grounds of the school, Keiran sat on the ground on the far side, leaning against the bark, digging the fingers of one hand into the earth and in the other, holding HIS figurine. It was silly, he knew. There was no point in keeping the damn trinket. But he couldn't manage to throw it away. For a year and a half, it had represented HIM. Now, it represented Keiran's pain. He clenched the purple dragon tighter in his fist, the points of the animal's wings slowly carving holes in his skin. Thoughts raced through the young man's head, but they were so disjointed that he could only really catch a few words here or there. 'Betrayal... Anger... Why?... HIM, Vladimirescu, sick, HIM, blood, angry, pain, HIM, hurt, piano, kiss, HIMShadowdinnerstupidrejectWHY?' Somehow, the hand that he had buried in the ground had transferred itself to his hair, ripping strands from his scalp and going back for more, hungry for the physical torture to match the emotional. The dragon in Keiran's other hand was slick with blood, shaking vigorously in a nearly futile effort to keep holding on to the precious object. There were no tears, no grimaces or winces, nothing on his faces to echo either the physical, mental, or emotional stress, but Keiran's eyes held a small spark, that indefinable quality of insanity that insinuates itself into a soul. Slowly Kisho crossed the school grounds, heading back to his dorm after a long day of classes and an annoying meeting with his professor about taking all the time he needed to complete his missing assignments. A week had passed since he'd awoken in the infirmary, five days since he'd (re)read Blair's farewell note, and three since he'd been declared well enough to return to his dorm and resume classes. His mind was still adjusting. According to the nurse, the young man had been unconscious for two full weeks (and he had the pile of homework to prove it, too), but his mind couldn't grasp that fact. To him Blair's sudden transformation and unprecedented attack had been yesterday or, at the very most, a handful of days ago, but certainly not three weeks! Kisho felt like more of an outsider than before, as though he had been frozen in time and thawed out years later to find himself stranded in a new world. Everyone's lives had continued on while his had been on pause, and now he felt like a shadow in some sort of spirit realm that overlapped with what used to be his normal one. Yet despite all of that, Kisho felt ... freer. Something was missing from his life, like a presence or weight that he couldn't quite name. Maybe he'd been laying down for so long that the past three days of moving around, of not being trapped in the infirmary, had released some sort of endorphin in his brain. Maybe he'd been in so much pain that, even though moving in certain ways still hurt, what little pain existed felt like nothing compared to the agony he'd awoken to. Whatever it was that was or wasn't there, Kisho felt (dare he say it?) almost happy - almost genuinely happy. He had no worries or cares. His mountain of homework would get done in time and was of no concern to him. His disconnection from the world, even more profound than what it had been previously, made him feel more relaxed and less nervous. His distance from Blair-- Blair. That was it. She was what he'd been missing. Her annoying, "let me help you all the time" attitude hadn't been around since he'd awoken, and Kisho hadn't realized it until now but it had been a long while since they'd first met. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he'd had a week or even a few days without her. Pondering this lack of Blair, Kisho found he didn't miss her presence in the least. Now that she had sworn never to follow him again, he felt the same sense of freedom he remembered (or imagined remembering) having in his pre-Blair years. A small, relieved smile crept onto his face as he shoved his hands in his pockets and continued his slow trek. On his journey back, Kisho contemplated stopping and sitting down under a tree or by a rock somewhere. The weather that afternoon felt wonderful - not too warm but just nippy enough to be refreshing without requiring a jacket. The smell in the air and the light breeze that ghosted across his face only added to Kisho's rare moment of pure happiness. But right as he decided this was a good plan and had veered off towards one of the trees closest to him, the werewolf noticed something ... off. His nose caught the smell before his eyes located the source. Blood. Curious but not terribly concerned - (who was he to care about anyone else's problems?) - Kisho's eyes scanned the surroundings and quickly spotted a young man sitting under a tree. His right hand, which held some sort of figurine, glistened with a thick coating of blood. His other hand clutched at his hair, every so often releasing strands it had torn from his head. Kisho's brows furrowed in confusion but he said nothing and sat down beneath a nearby tree. He faced in the opposite direction but positioned himself in such a way that he could glance over his shoulder or out of the corner of his eye and see the, for lack of a better term, curious young man. His strange actions bothered Kisho just enough to dampen his good mood but not enough to dissuade him from going his usual route of ignoring everyone else and doing as he pleased. So, even though his nose kept reminding him about the blood just a few feet away, Kisho sat and stared ahead. As much as it could, his mind drifted back to his wonderful lack of Blair. |

Movement flickered in the corner of Keiran's vision. He tried to ignore it, but Shadow's hunger burned inside his mind. Once a week, you said. Your choice, you said. Yet, you have not fed me for two weeks! And while you have been asleep or lost inside yourself, I have been awake. I have been hungering for the chance to feed. And now, there is a wonderful morsel just waiting to feel my fangs. You will give him to me. 'No! I will not harm another innocent for you!' But this boy is no innocent, Keiran. I can feel that darkness tainting his soul. He tastes like death, this boy. The figurine dropped from Keiran's hand, his fingers limp as Shadow forcibly took control of Keiran's body, his emaciated state allowing the creature to do so with much more ease than ever before. The young man stood to his full height of 6'3", power radiating from his form, a black aura beginning to slowly radiate from him, small sparks of electricity skipping along the surface of his body. The heat began to burn away his T-shirt, singeing the edges and turning the blood-red color darker as the fire caught, not harming Keiran's body. Catch me if you can, Keiran, but I will devour this boy before you even come close. Inside his mind, Keiran shivered from the menacing tone. Keiran's control slipped completely as Shadow began to step forward, allowing for a quick rush of speed, akin to that of a vampire, before the young man clawed his way back into his own mind, knowing the damage he was causing to his mental framework. The castle in which Shadow had housed himself long ago, was under siege, catapults firing at will and soldiers climbing the ramparts. Shadow's forces fought back, arrows flying through the air, plenty of them hitting Keiran's troops. But Keiran had built a back-door in his mind, one he had created whilst Shadow slept. It would take some work, getting through undetected, but between his throwing knives and sword, he would make it. Edging through the door to the tallest rampart, knowing that Shadow would settle only for the best view of battle, Keiran crept up the stairs. His feet made no sound, but the clanging of armor from above would have drowned out any noise that slipped out. A soldier came down the stairs, his muttering giving Keiran plenty of warning. The young man slunk into the shadows (how ironic that Keiran himself could use the blasted things better than their namesake), and as the soldier passed, Keiran covered his mouth and slit his throat, gently laying the fresh corpse on the ground, careful of making any loud sounds. He continued up the steps, quickly gaining momentum until he nearly flew higher. He had to stop Shadow! The top of the stairs came into view and he burst forth, brandishing his sword, ready to fight his way to the demon in his mind. But as he assessed the room, there was only one person in view. Actually, person might be the wrong word to use, considering the 8' tall, winged, and horned creature standing on the edge of the rampart, overlooking the battle. Without moving its head, it spoke, voice deep and ominous, "You have no chance of succeeding, Keiran. Look at your army! They already stand decimated before my city!" It was true. Less than a quarter of Keiran's forces remained. Realizing this, he summoned more. His mind, his rules. The creature laughed. "Cheap tricks will get you no where, child." It turned around, fire lancing through its eyes. "You have thus far given me leave to do as I wished. You have never fought me before. Why now? You do not care about this boy. So why do you risk your life and the lives of everyone I will encounter after I destroy you just for this one pitiful werewolf?" For the first time since entering his mindscape, Keiran spoke. "Ren." That one word was all he said, but it was all that was needed. The creature roared in pain and anger. Then the real battle began. Keiran's body stood still, halfway through taking a step. 'A life without Blair', Kisho mused to himself with a mental smile. Sweet, sweet freedom! No more "You need to share your emotions with me," or "Kisho, you have to learn control!" or "Listen to me because I know all about this and all about you and thus feel I have to right to tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it!!" 'Woah, Kisho,' he called out. 'Reign it in there. No need to break the good mood.' A mental smile returned to replace the agitated grimace that had slipped onto his face. 'Think about all the time and space you have to yourself again.' No having to meet for training sessions (or therapy sessions, as the most recent one had turned out to be before his "teacher" had lost all the control she breagged about and nearly killed him). No more having Blair and Kovu stalking him and checking up on him. No more worrying about--- A flash caught his attention out of the corner of his eye, and Kisho, with similar speed, whipped his head around to find the source of the sudden movement. Now about a quarter of the distance between his tree and Kisho's tree, the other boy stood stone still, his foot poised to finish a step. Kisho furrowed his brow in cautious wonder while his body shot off alarms and tensed, preparing itself for a fight-or-flight response to any more sudden and strange actions the other student might take. Straightening himself but remaining seated, the werewolf studied the frozen boy, and when his eyes reached the young man's face, Kisho slowly eased himself into a standing position. Facing his peer Kisho was on full alert. A look of sheer anger and ferocity, as Kisho often saw himself having in his own nightmares, covered every inch of the other student's face. It made Kisho nervous. A torrent of questions spun about in his mind, quickly and easily blocking out any other thoughts - good or bad - that he might have held. As each one crossed his mind, an image of the scene in question flashed before him, as if Kisho were watching a murder mystery slideshow and all the disturbing images were leading him to a dreadful conclusion. Why had the boy been clutching that statue? Why had he clutched it so hard that his hand had wept blood? Why had he been clutching at and tearing out his own hair? Why had his face been blank? Why had his eyes held such pain? Why had he sudden stood and literally flashed toward Kisho? Why had he only gone so far before stopping? Why had he frozen in mid-step? Why did he have that look on his face, like he were a wild beast angry and ready to tear his prey to bits? It made Kisho nervous. The hairs on his arms began to prick, and he took slower, deeper breaths to keep himself from doing anything to set the clearly disturbed boy off any more than he had already been. Body ready to fight, mind ready to run, Kisho stood perfectly still and kept his eyes trained on the boy on the other side of the grounds. Edited by Kisho Arai, Friday Sep 21 2012, 05:30 PM.
