Dragon Lord in Training

"He wants you to become a Guardian!?" "You can't argue with the chief's judgment, but it's not a demand or anything." "If you're so set on this, I might as well go along..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Arcstahl is waiting for you," the golem soldier announced, closing his helm's visor as he stepped aside. The aspiring Guardian and company stood up, taking an array of glances at each other. Wanting to waste no time, the chosen warrior took a step inside the nearly fabled structure... Their footsteps echoed throughout the Sanctuary, resonating off of the marble structure. All across the room, giant pillars hoisted the palace's foundations, exerting an aura unnaturally pristine for a place so deep underground. Standing at the far end of the room was a gigantic stand, built to house something far larger than a human- such as the great dragon seated within it. "Welcome. I see you've considered my offer..." Arcstahl's fang-rimmed maw opened, his voice booming with earnest respect yet intimidating power. Scattered across the space of the room were an array of Guardian Apprentices, standing much closer to their guests' eye level- golems, dragons, espers, and fairies lined the halls, busying themselves with a variety of duties. Or rather, they were, until Arcstahl's announcement brought their attention to the humans entering their base of operations. A few shifted their attention to other activities, such as finishing the arcane symbol on the ground, but the majority seemed to leer curiously at their guests, in anticipation of the ceremony. Despite the room being packed with superhuman creatures, however, any sort of imposition they might have otherwise was nullified by Arcstahl's mere presence as a Guardian Lord. "Before we begin, I must allow you a chance for second thoughts-" he said as though they expected the ritual to be taken more lightly. Then again, he must have offered the same to at least the dozen of his attendants. "- after all, you would never be fully human again if you accept. Are you certain you are willing to become a Guardian?" A) "I would be honored." B) "I have to..." C) "You betcha!" |

C. It's the most lighthearted. At the very least, we can put on a brave face. |

>And I was about to break out the random number generator. "You betcha'!" the warrior exclaimed, clearly beaming with anticipation. The dragon took another good look at his human prospect, surmising whether such enthusiasm was out of devotion or folly- or perhaps somewhere in between. Eventually, he sighed, figuring that what he had already observed was proof enough of the warrior's qualification... "Please, stand in the circles, all of you..." the dragon asked, urging the humans forward. Taking heed, the aspiring Guardian took their stand in the great central glyph, with the others on the outer circles. "So..." the warrior began to call out, eyeing the ominous pattern with a slight wince. "If you have your doubts, please state them." "This isn't going to hurt, is it...?" "Your friends will be unharmed, and so will you... so long as they remain unharmed," Arcstahl answered, his claw flipping through the pages of the great grimoire laid in front of him. "Once the process is complete, much like how this town is my Domain, the persons in these outer circles will become your Subjects, granting you your strength as a Guardian. It may be a Guardian's duty to protect all of humanity, but should you fail to keep your Subjects alive, or should they see you unfit for the power of a Guardian, their life force will cease to empower you- and you may die in turn. Hence why I asked you to bring your closest friends and kin..." "I see..." the warrior took in, nodding. "Any further questions?" Arcstahl inquired, watching his guests intently for a while. "... good," he nodded, giving his attendants an authorative glance. As if by routine, the array of Guardians lined up, organizing themselves by class. "Golems, forward," he called out towards the living constructs of earth. "Men made of bark, stone, and metal. While their movements are sluggish, their bodies are nearly indestructible. They are knights that can withstand entire onlaughts with only scrapes, capable of recovering even from a severed limb with time and patience..." he summarized, when the golems moved back into the row. "Dragons, forward," he called out towards the quadrupedal serpents. "Beasts of a noble nature. Though their stature denies them the use of dextrous tools, their claws, muscles, and scales are as strong as iron. They are warriors who wield no weapons but that of their own blood, capable of destroying foes with their mere breath..." "Espers, forward," he called out towards the glowing spirits of plasma and fire. "Raw elements molded into man's form. Though their bodies are barely material, the forces of nature bend to their will. They are spirits who can conjure devastating storms, capable of wiping out hordes of enemies with only a wave of the hand..." "Fairies, forward," he called out towards the silk-winged men. "Charismatic nymphs of deceptively human shape. While just as frail and weak as man, they weave logic-defying illusions at a whim. They are tricksters whose arsenal is their imagination and guile, capable of halting even the most bloodthirsty of marauders with a clever lie..." "Choose your new form wisely..." Arcstahl reminded the warrior, taking a patient seat for as long as a decision would take... A) Golem B) Dragon C) Esper D) Fairy |

I wasn't sure whether to vote B or D, because on the one hand, woo dragons, but on the other hand, tricksters! ...Screw it, I'll go with B
