A for a countervote. Cedidragons is probably gonna win, but this would be a nice second place. Also, someone's gotta be the tank.

By the way, the gender of our mystery protagonist was secretly tied to that choice- for no reason other than I knew that if I made it a straight-up selection, everyone would pick female automatically. And it's not a choice if I know that in advance, is it?

The Golem and Esper protagonists would have been male, while Fairy would actually allow a regular choice after all (Because pretty ladies vs super bishounen bros). So, by process of elimination... :P

"... make me a dragon," the young woman decided, confirming her position.

"So be it..." Arcstahl nodded, turning to a certain page within his tome. The warrior attempted to wander around a bit impatiently, but the Apprentices urged her to stay within the glyph's limits. As the symbol was finished, the fairies and espers attending it dashed a distance away, keeping a steady eye on the marble surface. The Guardian paused for a while, giving the woman one last chance for second thoughts...

She was only tapping her foot, her expression growing impatient. So much for having doubts...

"... let us begin..." he coughed, leering into the great tome. He read a passage in an unfamiliar language, every word echoing with an almost alien sound. With every breath he spoke, the glyph sparked with arcane power- first a simple glow, then rising to nearly a curtain.

"Gh-!" the warrior flinched, a pain splintering within herself. A strange, almost burning feeling seemed to well up within her arms- but the growing light of the glyph was almost too great to see within. She collapsed to her knees, gritting her teeth.

The glyph flashed. It blinded her for a second, but it felt like much longer. Her intestines wrapped themselves all around, her friends's voices echoed in her head, and she got a REALLY bad heart burn.

Before she could think about every single thing that happened in that moment, her sight returned and the strange sensations vanished. The light had faded, and with it the entire glyph. A fairy hovered a glossy plate into view, containing the image of an unfamiliar, four-legged creature covered in red feathers.

It took about a second to realize that was a mirror.

"Aren!" one of her friends called out, rushing to her side. "Are you okay?"

"Okay...?" she repeated, looking at her... front feet, before making eye contact again.

A) "I feel great...!"
B) "I feel weird... and a little itchy..."
C) "I feel a little sore... hey, didn't you say it wouldn't hurt?"

Is D) "I feel surprised about getting feathers..." an option?

Otherwise, I pick B.

Let's become someone else. Perhaps with more depth of character.

>... I think that acquiring feathers isn't quite as big of a forethought as simply turning into a four-legged noble-monster type of thing <_<

"I feel weird..." the transformed Aren admit, wobbling on her legs. Feeling an irritation around her neck, she slowly attempted to raise her leg and scratch it. "... and a little itchy..."

"A dragon is the most difficult form of Guardian to physically adapt to," Arcstahl spoke up, swiping the tome shut. "We will help you adjust to it. In the meantime, though, I am afraid we must ask your Subjects to leave..."

"A-Already...?" her brother stammered, a pair of golems approaching them. "But sis...!"

"Relax, Barvan..." the fledgling Guardian turned towards him, smiling assuredly with her new beak-shaped mouth. "I'll be fine. I've got to keep you safe anyway, right?"

"... alright..." he sighed, checking Aren's friend for her objections. Recieving only a sympathetic nod, the two agreed to follow the stone man's cues out of the Sacntuary.

"From now on, Aren is but an alter-ego. An alias... the dragon announced as the hall's present Guardians hovered closer to their new member. "Henceforth, the Guardian you have become shall be known as Vertalon."

"Vertalon..."

"Welcome, Vertalon."

"Welcome aboard, Vertalon!"

"Nice to meet you!"

Before she knew it, she was surrounded by all sorts of golems, dragons, espers, and fairies- despite the initiation, the thought hadn't quite sunk in yet that these creatures were all her peers until a few more greetings. That she was one of them now. That she was Vertalon now. Some were addressing her energetically, others were extremely formal, but overall, their words all conveyed a certain sense of reassuring brotherhood- they all volunteered for the same boat, after all. All sorts of emotions were welling up, from confusion to excitement to a few second thoughts on the whole thing.

I'm gonna have a heck of a time getting used to this, aren't I...? she thought to herself, wobbling as she failed to raise a claw to her forehead.

Oh, what a year that turned out to be...

"Hey, Aren!" he waved, fighting for his fellow Apprentice's attention.

"Huh?" Aren spoke up, snapping out of her reminiscing. "... oh! Sorry, Nilos. I was zoning out about my own initiation..."

"Ah, the everlasting impression that comes with turning into a Guardian, let alone a dragon..." Nilos empathized, putting away his bag of herbs. "You took weeks to learn how to do more than hobble about on those legs. It's little wonder many dragons prefer their human forms while off duty..."

"Tell me about it! I thought I'd have to get used to being Vertalon all the time..." she chuckled, reclining further onto the rock as Nilos wrapped a bandage about her left ankle.

"So, reminiscing aside," he tugged the ends of the cloth, securing the bandage comfortably. As he stood up, he let the tattoo-like marks concealed underneath his sleeves glow brightly, as Nilos transformed into an esper of icy mist, his voice echoing lightly with an arcane power as he hovered above the ground. "It's not feeling any worse, right? If you can still walk fine, Arcstahl'd like us to be there for the new recruit's initiation..."

A) "Sure thing!"
B) "Can't, my patrol shift is coming up."
C) "I dunno, I think I should stay put until the wound heals..."
