Book 6 - Uncommon Crime Fighter Chapter 1: Anime Fan Club “You sure this is her house?” Neil asked me. “I’m completely sure. She invited me over a couple times already,” I replied. “It’s just kind of… big. It’s nice and all, but I feel uncomfortable in front of it. Is it alright for me to be here?” “Don’t worry. She’s a nice girl. A little ditzy but nice. She makes Genny seem apathetic.” “That is an obvious exaggeration,” spoke a familiar voice behind us. “You humans seem to really like your expressions. It’s still rude talking behind a friend’s back, though.” “I don’t think it would count as ‘behind their back’ if you know they’re there.” “Wow, Cody,” Neil exclaimed, “You could sense her?” “Not really. But I can expect Genny would be following me around all the time.” I rang the door bell. “I’d like you to behave yourself here, Neil. I know how you get around girls like her.” “Yeah,” Genny added, “you’d probably be all over me if I were human.” “Come on, guys,” Neil defended. “I’m not that bad.” The door opened, and Sally greeted us. “Hey, Cody. Thanks for coming.” “I hope you don’t mind that I brought a friend.” “Heyyy, Genny! It’s nice to know you could join us.” She lunged forward and hugged Genny. She then looked at the big guy next to me. “And who’s this guy.” “He’s Neil. He’s my friend I was referring to... just now. I brought him with me since he’s as much an anime fan as I am.” Then I whispered to her, “There are some interests we don’t quite share, though.” “Like what?” she replied out loud. “I don’t think that’s worth mentioning.” I looked over to notice he was staring at Genny and Sally hugging with a big, goofy grin. He suddenly responded, “What’s not worth mentioning?” “Are you bleeding? Never mind. Let’s go inside and watch some anime.” As we entered the house, we were greeted by Sally’s cat. “Hey, Zeeky. You remember Cody and Genny.” Sally knelt down to pet him. “Don’t worry about Neil, Ezequiel,” I added. “He knows about who I am. You won’t have to keep quiet while he’s here.” “You mean he knows you’re a sorcerer that got his power after opening a portal that released demons into your world?” the cat replied. I suddenly felt a tight pain in my chest almost like when I got in trouble with my parents. “He doesn’t quite know about that I’m responsible,” I respond nervously. “Just that I fight them.” “Wow. A talking cat,” Neil admired Ezequiel. “That’s a cool name, too. Nice choice, Sally.” “Actually, it’s my real name. I just compelled her and her family to call me that before I revealed to her what I really was.” “So, what are you really?” “Sigh. I’m a spirit much like Genesis.” “A cat spirit?” “No. I just prefer to take the form of a cat.” “I can’t tell if he was being sarcastic,” he told me. “I don’t think sarcasm is at all common in spirits,” I answered. “Genny jokes around a lot, but she’s rarely sarcastic.” “You humans like your expressions,” she repeated. “Enough introductions,” I concluded. “Let’s get on to the shows.” |
