Seriously, guys, we need to do something to keep this place alive rather than just complain in the shoutbox about how little activity it's getting. If you want to see this forum thriving again, I kindly ask that you also put some effort into making it so. Any ideas?

One thing Speedy mentioned is that there aren't any topics for the majority of Naka's LPs. What if we made a discussion topic (unofficial of course) for the ongoing LPs?

Fairly sure I've given up.
This forum has always been, at it's core, the forum for NakaTeleeli's LPs. Having a topic, or perhaps multiple topics, to address his LPs would follow the nature of the forum. It is certainly a good idea to start this. Like I mentioned, I found it unfortunate we have so little topics from Naka himself, like he originally did for his LPs like Parodius or dotHack.

What I also wouldn't mind is seeing some more posts about ongoing series for manga or anime, or games that have come out recently or will come out in the nearby future.. or perhaps someone has a personal project they'd like to talk about..?

VE has grown into an open community over time, from it's beginnings as an LP forum. You're welcome to show pretty much anything.

I was wondering why Naka hasn't been putting up new topics for his LP's lately. Did something happen, I assume?

I AM looking rather beautiful today.
I recall that it was because he did not see any reason to put up those kinds of topics anymore. I may be wrong though.
Still there's no reason why we can't make the topics ourselves and discuss things. Except:
1. We need Naka's approval.
2. We need to show we can behave ourselves when discussing opinions.
3. There is the probability that we'll just use skype to discuss Naka's LP's because it's faster and more convenient.

Not trying to be a debbie downer, just pointing out some reasons.

1. We need Naka's approval.
While y'all know I'm definitely someone who prefers having approval for.. EVERYTHING.. If we're putting up topics to discuss Naka's videos, unofficial or otherwise.. I'm not sure why we need approval? If we need approval to discuss our opinions of games, anime or manga, then we wouldn't even HAD subforums for those. I'm not sure why discussing the videos of a LetsPlayer, regardless of the LPer in question being the administrator, requires approval.

2. We need to show we can behave ourselves when discussing opinions.
Which we can do by.. having topics to prove this in. Besides, haven't we already? Yes, there are some sour grapes among them, but there are plenty of discussion topics already.

3. There is the probability that we'll just use skype to discuss Naka's LP's because it's faster and more convenient.
And now you're pointing out exactly what we want to change- not that it really matters.. even the Skype chats have been getting less and less activity. A fine indication of the forum itself, I suppose.. especially since the RP Skype chats seem to be the most active.

Disky hit the reasoning for Naka not putting up topics about his LPs. Naka has only put topics up for LPs that he felt needed an additional bit of information or viewer input. He hasn't made topics for, say his Jojo fighting games, since he felt there was nothing else he could add besides his videos.

I think if we had an unofficial thread, Naka would not be upset. Nor would we, for legal reasons, need his permission to do so, since we are simply discussing something he created and giving him the credit, not using his property or name for our own use.

For #2, we should have an easier time being adults while talking about Naka's LPs than in certain other topics.

And for #3, the point is to give a location for those who aren't on Skype (or in those large groups) to express their opinions, and maybe to snag a few passersby.

As has been mentioned, yeah, the big reason I haven't been making topics is that I originally made the topics because I felt I could do something with them to add to the series. Such as posting the overall R-Type timeline, or the character sheets from Touhou Mother, or the enemy logs from Okami. I was going to do voting here as well, but I found not many people would register to vote for things and I really wanted to include everybody, so I found another place to do that.

After a while I found myself stretching to come up with reasons to make a topic. It'd be some really dumb reason or the like that just made it obvious I was stretching to find a need to make the topics. Honestly it felt insulting to the forum and myself. On realizing that I decided to just not make topics unless I had a legit reason to, and I really haven't thus far.

As to having my approval, I believe the bigger issue is that I wanted that section to be much more clear and organized. Something that wasn't just ego pandering, so I've set it so only I can make topics in the section. However, one thing I can do is sticky a few of the topics, like the fan art and Welgaea topics, and open the forum up otherwise so members can make topics if they feel they want to discuss an LP. Heck, I could see myself posting about a few dumb things I do offscreen in Persona on occasion. Since I don't use the section as much as I thought I would I don't really have a problem with doing this.

My own section aside, the health of the forum comes from people interacting. If there's a lot of discussion going on in Skype or the shout box instead of here then that's going to really diminish the posts and discussion here. This is sort of why I didn't want an official Skype chat, as I've seen another forum I was part of all but die off because of it. But I still hold that you guys have all but built this forum and if you want one more power to you. I just won't put an "official" stamp on it.

Besides getting members here to interact on the forum more often, getting some new members wouldn't hurt either. It's been quite a while since I did a State of the Channel thing, and though the time had come up, I felt the community was behaving itself enough it may not be necessary. Maybe it's getting to be that time, though.

A State of the Channel might still be interesting though. They don't necessarily have to be fueled by negative feelings, right? :)

or perhaps someone has a personal project they'd like to talk about..?
Well I did have my VE City in Minecraft project at one point. But the problem with that was that people gradually stopped expressing interest in it, therefore I stopped working on it.

I like the idea that Naka suggested, though, about opening up his section. That sounds like it could be a neat thing to do. I also agree that the forum needs some new members, of course we would need a reason for them to come other than just "Hey! There are Awesome people here, let's talk about stuff!" Like Naka said, the life of a forum stems from the interactions of its members. If they don't have a good reason to interact, the forum can't thrive.

My biggest problem with forum as it is now, is that the few parts that are actually somewhat active are the sections that people are least likely to get into. God knows I'm too busy/lazy to get involve into some elaborate RP. And as for the forum games, those are more of a pastime, not something that should take up nearly half of the forum's activity, which is what they seem to be doing.

I was almost thinking we could do a kind of event or activity or discussion topic or... thing that changes monthly, perhaps even weekly, just as a start. But I dunno.
