Saving Marriages and RE-filtering people as what it means to live.
I remember I was trying to decide on what exactly were my favorite games. Today I have come to a conclusion of 2.(Thanks Naka >.>) I will be explaining why I like them and whatnot.

My 1st Favorite game: Contact(Nintendo Ds)
Contact was the game I use to call "A game made just for me!"
It was about a boy who gets dragged along this Professor and his dog Mochi on an adventure to....!
I forgot what it was about but I loved the costume and stat system! I use to play runescape a lot so having stats for karma and just hitting opponents was awsome! I was in love with the story and the game never really felt like a DS game. I was sad it never went mainstream.

My 2nd Favorite game: Bunny Must Die(PC)
Wow. I watched naka play the first play through and I exploded.
What a impressive game. I love the fast paced combat and the secrets that can be found. Even the game surprised me with it's second half of the story. I loved that the voice for bunny was also done in english on a steam release but by the same one that did the japanese voice. she didn't speak english but it sounded really well. Like she was speaking japanese and I could understand it! P.s. I don't care for the sexual things in anime or tohou games but...GO BUSTY BUNNY!!!

What were your guys favorite games? I think I went a little crazy there :evillaugh:

Ah dude, I can't pick a favorite, it's too hard. Bunny Must Die is high up there, though. It's challenging and rather difficult, but it doesn't frustrate me like most other games of that type do. I'm really glad Naka brought that one to my attention.

Ya know, I gotta be honest, Minecraft has got to be my favorite. I don't play it as much as I used to, but it's still a great game. I just love how expansive the worlds are, and each one is unique. They're always adding new features and if that's not enough for you, the vast modding community should enough to keep you satisfied till the end of time.

Fairly sure I've given up.
Despite all the great games having come since, I still regard Chrono Trigger as my favorite game.

It can simply not get old, and it is, for me, still the best RPG ever made.

I have a hard time with this topic, since I never know which games I like the most. XD Therefore, I'm just going to list a few, rather than just one. I don't care if I'm cheating, because I can't decide!

Chrono Trigger- Like Speedy, I have to say that this is the best RPG ever made. No RPG has ever impressed me as much as Chrono Trigger has. The music, the battle system, even the freedom of traveling about the map that you get so early on in the game makes it a wonderful experience.

Metroid Fusion/Metriod Zero Mission- I'm a big fan of the Metroidvania styled games, and these two are what really got me into the style of game. Metriod Fusion gets the bigger mention here because of the constant feeling of being hunted by the SA-X, an enemy that is constantly stronger than you for most of the game. Having to constantly run, avoid, and trick the SA-X while trying to grow stronger is actually an amazing experience. Coupled with a few neat story bits and the eventual showdown with the SA-X gives the game a smooth and exciting progression.

Dust: An Elysian Tale- Probably the most recent game for me to call a favorite. I'm not one to gush about graphics, but this game is just absolutely pretty, and the environments are detailed. This is another Metroidvania game, but there real winning factor here is the combat. Yes, there is a way to cheese the combat in this game, and I don't care, because it's just so fluid and intense, especially in the later chapters. The speed and control that you can fight with is just amazing, and something I have yet to find in other games.

Metal Slug X: Oh man, do I love me some Metal Slug. I could say things about all of the Metal Slug games, but this is by far the best one, in my opinion. So many memorable stages, vehicles, weapons, and that final stage and final boss have this amazing surge of energy and desperation that hasn't been replicated in any of the other Metal Slug games.

There are other games that I would list, but I feel these are my top pics.

I haven't played Contact, although I know what it is. It's a cool game, although not really one that appeals to me. The speedrunning community has been taking a look at it though... I think Any% was looking at breaking the game to just under 2 hours or so? Not sure if that's from glitches or pure speed.

Personally, I keep coming back to my "holy trinity": Donkey Kong Country 2 (platforming perfected... although Tropical Freeze gives it some serious competition), Final Fantasy 9 (Absolute perfection of the classical JRPG) and The World Ends With You (there's not another game that used it's hardware to make something so unique yet powerful)

I've also got a soft spot for Final Fantasy Crystal Chroncles as the first speedgame I took seriously, the entire Zero Escape series for being nearly perfect stories and Valkyria Chronicles for being fantastic and unique as well.

Minecraft should be my third one anyway. I play it everyday! :D I'm also surprised to see people replying to my topic. Didn't think anyone would post.

Oh man, favorite games. I have a.... loooot. Most of them being RPGs, but hey.
I really liked FF9, which is one of my most favoritiest favorites. Also the vast majority of the Tales of series (with Eternia/Destiny II taking the lead because it's just so freaking bad. I love it.)
Suikoden is great too, up until the DS one. Never beat it. :(
Fire Emblem: Awakening is still holding my attention very well.
I'm playing the crap out of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, though I'm nowhere near the endgamey level where Naka is on his character. (but botany and crafting is fuuun.)
And these are just the ones off of the top of my head, really, I'm bound to think of more if left to my own devices long enough! (Oh! OH! Elemental Gimmick Gear! Sorcery Saga! Romancing SaGa! *continues blabing*)
I have FAR too many games to try to play and beat or even start, my game collection is bordering on stupid at this point, lol.
I DID grab Contact though, haven't started it yet, but if it's as good as you say I'll have to jump on it sooner! *starts wading through game stacks to find it*

Confirmed for doki-doki tier.
Mmm...This subject is something difficult for me.
Favorites are a big wavering factor for me, since I tend to play a crazy number of different genres and don't like comparing things that aren't in the same genre.
-So I'll just make this easier on myself in general I guess...

My favorite RPG... Is actually a bad place to start; but whatever.
-I completely adore the Disgaea series. Tbh, I love damn near everything Nippon Ichi develops in-house.
(That other stuff they publish from Idea Factory and Compile Heart tends to be pure shit.) *cough*NeptuneandMugenSouls*cough*
The Disgaea series is the most fun sRPG series I've ever played. The necessity to grind and save-scum for the real game to begin turns a lot of people off, but I love it to bits. The dedication required is more-than-obvious and really fun in my opinion.

-Then there's the Tales series; Specifically Tales Symphonia. Graces/f gets a wonderful honorable mention due the the brilliant battle system.
ToS was, similar to many other fans, my entrance to the series in general. Followed by Eternia then Phantasia.
Symphonia is ridiculously popular, and I feel it's for good reason. The story is fun; not the best, but very fun. The battle system is simple but extremely well done and the characters are wonderful.
The entirety of the game is just a complete joy to play.

-Finally there's an old school title; Brave Fencer Musashi. A PS1 title from Square before they merged with Enix.
This game was one of the three PS1 titles I put on my "Play this at least once every year!" list.
A simple and straightforward game following a child samurai as he attempts to save a silly-named kingdom from an evil invading empire.
The game played super-fluidly. The world you were placed in was HUGE. And the overall tone of the game was both series and lighthearted in a beautifully balanced manner.

And then there's Fighters; A genre I feel is very near-and-dear to my heart.
-First and foremost, MELTY BLOOD. No, I didn't accidentally leave caps lock on.
MELTY is definitely my favorite fighting game series, with Actress Again: Current Code being damn-near flawless in my opinion.
The games give so many options in terms of characters. With 31 characters and each having three different move set-ups that's a lot of options!
The game play is fast and rewards you for learning your character match-ups no matter what Moon you use. And the flow is pushed towards knockdowns and okizeme.
(This is actually the series that got me to fall in love with this play style)

-Runner-up would obviously go to Skullgirls. (Or, Deadgurlz)
Skullgirls is a wonderful indie fighter made by a member of the FGC, Micheal "Mike Z" Zaimont as well as one of the founders/original artist of Gaia Online, Alex "Oh_8" Ahad.
The characters and universe are beautiful. The artwork and animation quality are beyond top-notch. Each character has somewhere around ~1200 frames.
The game play is also fast-paced, but has changed a decent deal over the short time it has been out.
At this point, the game favors mid-length combos and lots of resets. With each character having a sort of "gimmick" to aid in their unique game-plan, the chances and options for interesting combos and reset points are vast.
The game is very open to new-comers and the execution barrier is fairly non-existent. (Ignoring severin's one-frame Parasoul links.)

Also: I've heard of Contact, just never had any interest in picking it up, really.

Fleet of the 7 winds
My favourite game huh? For me it is always difficult to define my favourite anything, but I guess I can list the games I really like.

First and foremost I guess that I have to mention the Megaman series. These are the games I have replayed the most and I keep replaying them to this date. The first game I have played in the series was Megaman: The Wily Wars for the Megadrive/Genesis. It might be weird, because I played it on the PC because I had a CD with loads of Genesis games on it, but I don't care if people call it unauthentic. From what I have heard, the game doesn't play too well on the actual console, but I can't confirm it.
Anyways, Wily wars contained the first three Megaman Games and in my opinion they play much better than the NES originals. YEAH I SAID IT! Megaman 1 and 2 in Wily wars no longer suffer from the butter leg effect! Megaman 3 doesn't flicker when there is stuff on screen! My only complain probably is that the soundtrack is still Genesis, which makes some tracks sound pretty good while others lost their punch...and also Protoman's sprite is just so tiny and weeeeeird.
I guess my favourite out of the classic series has to be Megaman 3. It was the first I beat. I liked the bosses, the levels, the music and especially Rush. But I really like the other games in the series, as well as the gameboy games (Exception being Megaman II on the gameboy). I wish I had a way to play 9 and 10 though...
Megaman X is also a great game and I love all the things it did...I just don't like the games that follow. Megaman X2 was fun, X3 was bland, X4 was better than 3 and Zero's gameplay was fun but X5,6 and 7 just ruined the series for me. But then came X8 and it seemed like the series was picking up again....but then no new games came out so yeah, X1 still my favourite of the bunch, but I don't love it as much as the original series.
The Megaman Zero series is also one that really surprised me. What, a dark Megaman series set in a post apocalyptic setting? Oh god, is that really Zero? He looks so...weird. Yeah, when I saw the premise of Megaman Zero and the Zero sprite (Which I still say looks weird) I was indifferent towards the series. Then I played the games and oh wow. The gameplay is really good and the level design is nice and challenging, but the story and characters got to me. Sure, the presentation is shit for the most part (Static sprites and walls of text? At least have expressive mugshots goshdarnit!) but the story is rather well written for a Megaman (or Capcom game in general). Not to mention I still think that these games have the best designed bosses of all Megaman Games.

---

Oh wow, I talked an awful lot about Megaman...well, do I like anything else? Yes I do. In fact there is another series I like just as much as Megaman and mainly Castlevania. I played almost all of the games in the series (Except the PS2 games and Adventure Rebirth) and I really enjoy them all...well except Castlevania 2....and maybe Adventure...and Haunted Castle is just stupid... But the series was alway fun and challenging and I like the old games as much as I like the metroidvanias. Do I have favourites in the series? Well, from the old school games I say I like Castlevania 4 and Rondo of blood the most. CV4 has just a very good feel to it and being able to whip in all directions is satisfying, and the final stretch of the game is just fantastic, having to fight through Slogra, Gaibon, Death and finally Dracula just feels so, for lack of a better term, epic. The moment you hear Simon's theme play during the final battle with Drac you know you can't lose and you are pumped to finish the fight. I love it when games make you feel that.
On the side of the Metroidvanias my favourites are Aria of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia. Aria is a great looking game and the gameplay is also interesting. You make the castle work for you as you absorb the souls of the demonic denizens and harness their power in a lot of varied ways. I never found myself needing to grind in this game (except for the chaotic realm) and it stiill was enjoyable. Order of Ecclesia on the other hand combines the feeling of the old games with the gameplay of the new games. It is platformer oriented, but you still get to explore. You don't get a bazillion weapons, but the ones you get are all unique and fun to use. The character and art design is my favourite of all Castlevania games and man, Shanoa is a great protagonist. For someone who had her emotions and memories stolen she still manages to be a really intriguing character. Not to mention that this game has my favourite Dracula fight of all Castlevania games (Portrait of Ruin being 2nd). Well, too bad there aren't making any more CV games. Hm? Lords of Shadow? Silly you, that's not Castlevania :D

But there are still other games I really love! From the shooting section I would choose:
Mafia: The city of lost heaven - Great 3rd person shooter. Not as open as GTA but what it does it does great. The city is interesting and all the streets and buildings are unique. The gameplay is really deep and is probably the only shooter with realistic realistic reloading. The story is intriguing and the characters are really good. Not to mantion the details they put into the cars!
Half Life - Great shooter series that manages to present its story without any cutscenes. Great variety of weapons, enemies and places and while not as bombastic as other games it still has some amazing and memorable moments! And the sequels are doing even better. WHERE IS HL3!?

Fighting games: I have to say the same as Milk for the very same reasons. I am not as good as Milk in fighting games, but I just adore them! As a spriter, those games always fascinated me and put me in awe. All the animations and moves and oh god, even the backgrounds! When a game can combine good visuals and good gameplay, man...I could gush over it all day!

RPG: Not a big fan of RPGs, at all. I hate random encounters and I find grinding tedious. And the ones I have played were just uninteresting. Heck, I couldn't even play Final Fantasy 7 or Chrono trigger longer than 2 hours. I liked Final Fantasy 6, but mostly because of the characters...the game itself just put me to sleep.
So, what games made me grow past my dislike for the genre that I managed to actually beat them? Well:
Mother 3 - This game. People are all over Earthbound and I can see why, but I will always prefer Mother 3. Earthbound feels a bit too 90s for my tastes, so I prefer the presentation of Mother 3 (And Mother 1 for that matter) that seems more timeless. The world is weird and holds a secret. The characters are memorable, the creatures weird and varied. And I also had fun with it as a game. For one, there are no random battles, and you can sneak up on enemies and if you are high level you can ram enemies out of the way! The in battle visuals are a bit too simple, but it still has enough personality to keep me interested. Overall, I just like this game.
Persona 2, both IS and EP - This should have been a game I should hate. It has confusing maze-like dungeons, random encounters and requires grinding. Yet...I just like the game. The start is a bit slow (which is a thing for most RPGs, especially the later Persona games) but once you get into the grind of things it just becomes so enjoyable. The presentation is really good, with simple yet expressive sprites, really cool looking battle animations and oh man, the story and characters are just one of the finest! You know that I keep gushing about the game and that most of you don't give a shit...but I will continue showing my affection (especially towards Maya <3) to this game that seems to have been forgotten by the sequels (minus some references that actually made me more angry, looking at you Hermit Social link from P3!). Also...there are no social links... what? I don't HATE social links...I just find them tedious, distracting and for the most part boring. P3 doesn't even let you develop your links with all of your party members, only the girls? How shallow can you get game? Not to mention that I kinda dislike playing as Mr. Perfect is good at everything everyone loves me so much and all the girls want to bed me. >.> Which is another thing that makes me appreciate persona 2 more. The protagonist isn't Mr. (or Ms.) Perfect. Both Tatsuya and Maya are very likeable and have qualities to them, but they both her weaknesses they are trying to overcome (and sometimes don't even suceed). Just the fact that Tatsuya isn't a good student is actually a trouble maker and Maya is messy and her driving is legendarily bad just makes me sympathise with them more. Heck, even the relationships with their party members is really good. In Persona 3 and 4 it seemed like your party members needed you for everything and were all in love with you or something, while in persona 2 it is presented in some cases more believable (Baofu and Maya respect eachother, but you wouldn't see them hug or something) or the romance is presented in interesting ways...though frankly Lisa fawning over Tatsuya is standard stuff, then again, out of all the Lovers arcanas in the series, Lisa is the only one who is honest about her affection from the get go (Even more than Rise from P4), even admitting that it might be one sided, but she doesn't care because she wants Tatsuya to be happy.
There is also one other reason I really like Persona 2! SPOILERS Not gonna go much into details, but how they show friendship and bonds in this game is a lot more interesting than Persona 3 and 4, which flaunt themselves for being about relationships. Tatsuya really cares about his friends and doesn't want to lose them and is willing to fight for them...which bites him in the arse sooooooo bad he will never be able to sit down. Won't tell much more, just that this little fact alone made me appreciate the game and writting and I am hoping that Persona 5 will bring something as good, and hopefully better than Persona 2 did.

Though in fairness, Persona 4 has a great battle system and I would like to see a hybrid of P2 and P4's systems.

Ah... The eternally burning question of "Which games are my favorite?"
I think I'll follow suit and list a few of my favorite games.

I have two absolute favorites: Half-life and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror

Half-life: In my opinion, half-life is a timeless masterpiece. The action, the story, the puzzles. It's got it all. The game doesn't hold your hand; it's rather hard, and large bullet drops don't mean anything. You WILL burn through bullets regardless of where you are. But the thing that captivated me the most was the exploration/open-world. Now, the world isn't quite "open". You do sort of have a set path, but the game makes the journey through so exciting and varied that you just can't wait to keep on going and see what's up next. The game also rewards you for being smart and making certain decisions.

Kirby: Now THIS is what I call an open world game. I love this game to bits and pieces. The exploration is absolutely fantastic. It never gets old, running through world after world, because there's ALWAYS something you missed. ALWAYS. But the world is so vast and there are so many paths to take that you can't help but smile at the thought of it. The game is HUGE and, best of all SIMPLE. It's not difficult, but hot damn is it fun. The graphics and music added onto the gameplay just makes it so "mmf <3" for me.

Honorable mentions:

Fighting games- I love 'em. I get competitive about 'em. And DAMN do I get salty. But they're really fucking fun. I, too, am in love with Skullgirls. I also have a thing for the BlazBlue series, despite not having played one of them in years.

TERA online: I told myself I wouldn't list an MMO, but TERA did something right that makes me love it. I'm not quite sure what it is, but TERA is a top MMO for me.

Elsword: Despite taking a long hiatus from this game, I still love it. The gameplay and the environments are interesting. The characters are fun, and the PvP is- no never mind. I get salty as all HELL when playing PvP on Elsword. I love it and hate it at the same time.
