Honestly, I had no idea until today that they were planning this, but I got the word due to it8bit.com..

They were going to try to find the E.T. landfill in Alamogordo, and dig it up..

It's actually pretty cool imho. A neat bit of gaming history. It's not like the carts were particularly rare, but to actually prove that the urban legend was true is pretty cool. At least, provided this isn't a faked pic by Microsoft's team.

Also, I leave you with this:

Um... Question:

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DIG THAT UP?!

Okay, in all seriousness, that's kinda cool.
Especially since I never thought the myth was actually true.

Though I fail to see the point of digging up something that should stay buried.

Hmm, considering this dig wasn't organized by Microsoft, and the thing was entirely public? Yeah, no, it's real. :P

The Xbox Entertainment group or whatever they're called did have a major hand in it, I suppose, for that documentary of theirs.. but I get the idea that's just funding wise and publicity. :P

Why do you say that? You say it like digging up a super awesome video game classic was a bad thing.

The one thing I can think about right now is the Angry Video Game Nerd Movie since the ET Landfill is a major part of the plot.

I'm gonna be honest, I was mostly joking. But you are aware that this 'classic' game is so bad that it was one of the more major causes of the video game crash of 1983-85, right? At least it's believed to be. I suppose it's good for collector's purposes, but other than that, who would want a game like that?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about that.
