Where are the rules?

I just realised something: There's no list of rules...

Am I missing something or did someone just forget to make them?
What sorts of things shouldn't be discussed here? I would like to know because I'm the type of person who will talk about anything and everything (like toilet topics at the table) unless told otherwise. (apologies in advance)

*does a mild search of his own*. Hunh. Even Naka's Forum MO doesn't really list rules.

I wrote this up: http://s4.zetaboards.com/VagrantEpochers/blog/entry/3071066/40310/ a time ago.

The information is a little outdated, as I'm no longer RP Mod, and mostly boils down to Wheaton's "Don't be a Dick", but if it interests you, have a read.

Ah thanks.
I was also trying to get an understanding on what to talk about in General Discussion, as there seems to be a lot of topics in there that don't really have any relation to anything...
I'm a tad reluctant to bring up topics people probably don't care for, but on second thought, this forum needs some activity anyway o.O

The closest thing we ever got to a set of rules was the "Legendary Quote" nonsense that started way back in the Introductions sub-forum, and even that was just a bunch of in-jokes with a few sensible guidelines sprinkled in it. Kuma's pretty much spot-on here.

Fairly sure I've given up.
The official rule is 'be mature', mostly.

Theta a few minor rules like 'don't advertise your own LP, except in your signature', but nothing consequential.

Shane mentioned the quote, and that thing was mostly a grab of non-significant rules the community decided to follow... Did it's job for awhile.

Kuma's blogpost seems to cover it all, but you can see how it old it is, as it still has that BS 1k posts equals new topic rule.

Oh god, the legendary quote, I almost forgot about that ridiculous thing, but it's all coming back to me now. Specifically, I remember that there was this thing about always capitalizing the word Awesome in there, which, in case no one here's notice, I still do to this very day. Sometimes I even catch myself capitalizing Awesome elsewhere, like at college or on other forums, it's just become so much of a habit that I do it without even thinking about it.

Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about, join the fight to help revive this forum! That's pretty much what I've being saying for the longest time, I even made a topic on it. I got people to actually address the problem and we were discussing which course of action we should take. But not much was really done outside of Naka opening up the "Naka's Stuff" forum for everyone to post topics in (which, btw, no one has even bothered to take advantage of, yet) and the topic quickly died down, leaving the forum not much better off than it was before.

I still think that one of the really big issues here is the lack of active members, which mostly comes form a lot of the old members leaving or reverting to lurking mode (which I'm guilty of doing, if I must be honest) and there being a significant lack of newer members to take their place. I talked about it a lot more in the topic I just linked and I believe said something about the few new members that we do manage to get leaving almost immediately soon after; it happens so often I've come expect it of every single new person I see on the site these days, because none of them ever seem to stay for very long. And now that it's on my mind once more, I think part of that is because of the lack of a clear set of rules (also because of the forum not getting advertised, but that's a topic for another time), and if this topic isn't evidence of that, then I don't know what evidence even is anymore.

But seriously, a little more on topic, I know Naka's big thing is that the only rules are your common sense (or something silly like that), but pardon me if I express my opinion in saying that that doesn't really work, and especially isn't very entising for people who are new. Literally every single forum I've ever seen has a clear set of rules except for this one, and that's what people expect when they join a new forum; something that tells them straight out what's acceptable, and what's not acceptable.

Every community's different, what's acceptable on one forum might not be acceptable on another, and as someone dreadfully afriad of getting into trouble, I can see why people might be uncomfortable jumping into a foreign community that doesn't have list of rules available; the only reason I'm here on this forum now is because back when I joined I was a hyperactive little teenager that felt a false sense of sercurity behind the safety of my computer moniter. It's no wonder why the newbies never stick around, it's because they don't know what they're supposed to do or not do, so they just leave to someplace where they do know.

Wow, sorry for the long post, but that's what I have to say on the matter. If I'm honest, it feels good to be in a proper discussion on this forum once again, after it being mostly forum games and Roleplays (which everyone active on here knows I suck at) for the longest time. Most disscussion takes place in the shoutbox these days, and I'm not sure how I feel about that, especially considering that this is my first real post in ages and yet I post in the shoutbox all the bloody time.

...I'll stop talking now, it's nearing 4 in the morning, I need some sleep.

Just wish I could find the post in which Naka spoke of the required maturity levels.
